Just 1 question

I've noticed most people say either VI, VII, VIII, or X are their favorite FF's. My question is why is it that people always go over IX and don't say it's one of the best. I've yet to get far into it so I can't really say since I'm inexperianced with it. But why is this game not as popular or well recognized as the others?

I'm not sure, I liked FFIX. I thought more people would like it because there are a great amount of references from previous Final Fantasy games in this one.

Because of the way they were moving towards the more modern/futuristic versions then suddenly descided to change back to black mages and the sort.

Yes I agree with Hikari. Because in VII everyone could use magic and same for VII as well as X. In IX only choosen characters could do it. Plus maybe they don't like the whole basis on sumoners.

The characters were even more sterotypical than usual (a round of applause for square soft, if you please).

You could mold the characters attack style, like in VII and VIII,
the story, although it had its moments, was quite bland.

personally i liked FFIX a lot, i liked the story the characters and the graphics and gameplay, they did a good job with the game.

most ppl that say they didnt like FFIX are people that just played VII VIII and X, those games have a lot of technology, were as IX went back to the basic final fantasy the way they used to make it. so people didnt like it cause i wanst based in a technologic world like VII or VIII.

But... But... I always said FF VII and IX are the best

NOBODY LISTENS TO ME!!!!

LOL JK

Well FF IX had some great graphics and the coolest/funniest FF character I've played with *points to username* Also he is the best Black Mage known to me. (Yes I know Lulu have Break DM limit and such) But i liked the magic casting system better on IX, it was like on VII, you caould cast a fira on all enemies after charging it up a bit with Focus.

Yeah, FF IX was great, the story, the world map and even that jerk Steiner made me laugh haha what a douchebag

FFIX is my favourite out of the whole series and I have no idea why it's put down so much, however Hikari may have a point.

I think FFIX had the best music, an awesome world map, amazing characters and loads of fun games. I even enjoyed the chocobo side quest -- somehting I do not usually enjoy on any other FF, apart from VII (which, by the way, is a game I really do not like at all).

Think IX is way underrated. It's a beautiful game and it's definately my favourite FF (VIII follows behind it, with VI). I do think the game was a litle too easy, though. Sometimes it's nice to play an easier game, though.

Yes, Chez, IX is really good. For the longest time I really didn't enjoy it that much, but by the end, I looked back and was like, wow, not bad at all. I actually liked IX better than VII, and IX has one of the best endings.

Well FFIX isnt my favorite RPG but it was a good one for sure. It did have its slow parts but over all it was a fantastic game ( i dont know why its put down so much either). The characters kinda looked goofy, i didnt like that.

I still love you chez.

Nobody realizes that FFIX is a tribute to the past. I remember reading way back in early 2000, in an EGM when they put out their first sneak peek at FFIX, that the whole premace of the game was a throwback to pay tribute to the good ole single digit FF's of the past. Castle towns and sprawling medeival cities were what was up back in the day, and in IX they wanted to acknowledge that and kind of say "thanks for the good times, but now we're moving on." Everything in the game is so wonderfully retro, from the air ships being flying boats, to the class system, and even adopting FFVI's learning system, where you need to either have gear equipped in order to perform special skills, or take the time and learn it by levelling up with the gear equipped.

Mages, summoners, knights, theives, monks and dragoons were all a huge part of the early FF games, and square wanted to bring back the "super deformed" style of the past for one last go. They wanted to do this so much that they had even gotten Amano back on the job and designing people. Amano was the driving force for the character design for FF back in the day, and they wanted him to bring back that feeling of the past while playing IX. Quite frankly, I think he did an outstanding job with his character design. He has one of the best senses of style and design in the business.

Red face easy

Final fantasy 9 was overlooked becasue people don't like the art style (i love it) alot of people say it's to kiddy and that i guess makes them have a reason to not love the story, charaters, and experince. personally this game is one of the best made ever but not to most ff fans. (for some reason?)

I dont really like FFIX, I think it has some lousy characters with uninteresting background stories, dont get me wrong the battle mode, sounds and graphics are good but its the story I dont really like and I cant stand that little Vivi, he annoys me for some reason.

I generally enjoy other FF games a lot more.

Final Fantasy IX is my favorite. I think people like the other ones more because IX is just different from them. I don't know...
