Quite possibly the funniest thing to happen in a World Cup in forever, this will be quite a Final to remember just because of that. Honestly, if a guy has been on your nuts the entire 90 minutes plus the extra over-time (There was like what, 5 minutes left when this happened?) I think you would have to have nerves of ****ing steel not to knock the guy out, kudos to Zidane, but a headbutt to the chest is such a funny way to do it

This simply proves that Italians are dirty, conniving little ****tards that should not be allowed to play soccer. And I'll say Materazzi is not the only one who does it before someone goes and pulls the "don't generalize" card. Italians have told me themselves of all the little tricks they use during games to make other players flip out.

Anyways, Zidane stays what he was before the game, a footballing legend. Now he is merely a footballing legend that kicked an Italian's ass. More power to him. Materazzi should definitely see some serious punishment after this as it's apparant that he provoked Zizou, even if all they have to charge him with is the pinching. Ban this guy from World Cup soccer permanantly and yes, that is possible as it has happened before. In fact they can make it so you can never play for the national team, or even for a soccer club at all.

I admit, it wasn't the smartest thing to do but who knows if it would've changed the outcome. Speculation never helped anybody. At least Zidane will go out as the most infamous player of all time hehe.

This is probably the craziest thing about this whole ordeal. Exactly as you said, the linesman and/or referee have to see the act committed or nothing is done. Obviously they can't have heard what Materazzi AKA greasy Italian said but if you remember watching the game, neither the linesman nor the referee saw the headbutt. It took a pretty long time before the game was even stopped after the incident. Then, all that the refs saw was Materazzi on the ground and Zidane marching away. Then the italians ran to the side ref and convinced him of it happening and that is not allowed. That completely disregards the rules of soccer and makes the occurrence the biggest bullshit I've seen in a long time. What, just cause the Italians say it happened means it happened? Since when do refs believe that. The ref let himself be swayed and that's what irritated me the most.

It's ironic but Materazzi just happens to be a player of BAD reputation, in HIS own country. He was once voted " The worse italian player of the year " not long ago. Indeed, he's like the laugthing stock in Italy so I'm really not surprised he was messing around Zizou, he does that for Inter Milan, the club where he plays. On top of that, he's freaking dirty, I'm surprised he made it to the Italian squad. Guys like this should not be allowed to play professionel soccer, so I agree, he should be banned.

This incident didn't destroy Zidane's career, it made him more famous than he already is. He had the guts to head-butt someone in front of millions, and it was a final, a world cup final. Soccer fans will talk about this for years to come. I just wish he wouldn't retire. ^_^

If I was Zidane I would've done the same thing.

I would have rather ended the last game of my career with everyone knowing not to fuck with me or i'll headbutt you to THE FUCKING FLOOR! As opposed to have just won the world cup. I'm glad it happened how it did, I hate France....but Zidane is the man.

Well I agree with some of the posts that say that Zidane was right but he was also wrong, I mean when you are there you dont have time to think and I should've done the same thing if that guy said that my mother was a biatch and a whore and also my sister, then again he called Zidane a dirty terrorist or something like that and it was really mean and he had no reason for it. I dont think that Zidane should've deserved that card.
