Here's a brain tickler- In a hypothetical situation, would you rather be a Mormon, or a Westboro Baptist churchgoer? And why? No offense to Mormons, but it's been my experience that their beliefs are so "singular" that anyone who isn't a Mormon can't seem to humor the idea of believing in the Mormon faith. That is why they are included in this question. Much offense to the Westboro Baptists. I, as an agnostic, would totally be open to Mormonism if the only other choice was Westboro Baptism, simply because the former seems the more accepting of the two, and I'm all about equality, open-mindedness, yadada yadada. | ||||||||

| Does what you can't. | No question about it, I would rather be a Mormon. While most people don't consider Mormons to be Christians, those at Westboro Baptist are giving other Christians a bad name. While I disagree with Mormonism (please nobody come in here and start talking about how we have to call it LDS or its full name, nobody really cares), the beliefs held by the Westboro Baptist congregation bring shame to Christians everywhere. Westboro makes me more upset than non-Christians that attack the religion, because it just gives everybody else fuel.

| | The Westboro "Church" is a genuinely evil society that deserves nothing but bad things to happen to them. I do not agree with the ideas of Mormonism, or the rather strict code of rules that they follow. But ultimately, they are people just trying to be good, albeit a bit whacky. The Westboro Church is just as bad as the Hitlers, Stalins, and Husseins of the world. They are a shame to the human race. Their beliefs go beyond fundamentalist Christian ideas, to the point that Phelps uses the pulpit as a platform for spreading hate. Anyone who says Katrina and September 11th are punishment for allowing gays to exist is not helpful to the advancement of society.

7,941 | I'd rather be Mormon, hands down. Might not be the most ideal lifestyle, but it's not a horrible one. I'd much rather not associate myself with anyone who claims that we deserved 9/11 simply because we tolerate gays. I have too much of a personal connection with 9/11 to ever believe that I had deserved that. Quick refresher: My aunt was in the second tower to be hit on the 95th floor. She miraculously made it out, due to her friend giving up her spot and throwing her into an elevator... the last elevator to make it down. My mom worked half a mile to the north of the site, at the time. My dad was working blocks away in the Federal courts and would have seen the second tower get hit, had he not been frantically asking people which tower the Windows Of The World restuarant was in, since my aunt worked in that tower. Nobody had cell phones then, and I wasn't 100% sure of anyone's proximity to the tower, or the damage done, so I had no way of knowing if anyone was alright. Plus, the second tower had a huge antenna on it, for cell phones, radio, etc., and that was obvously out of commission. Papers and dust/ debris were blowing scattered down my block, and we had to close our windows so that we wouldn't get the asbestos/ toxic dust in our apartment... seven miles away. Factor in depression and a nasty drinking habit that had lasted for almost 2 years (it had happened 2 weeks after my 15th birthday (Aug 28)... and almost one week to the day after my grandfather was buried (Sept 3)... after he had been rushed to the hospital on said birthday, dying on friday (Aug 31). Yeah, so 9/11 was the icing on that cake. Anybody who says we deserved 9/11 needs to die... simply put.
