Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Yeah, so I saw this at midnight last night, and I didn't really enjoy it too much.

The story line started off pretty well, and the actual entire backing story is nice, the whole Davie Jones thing, ect ect, but I thought it was poorly executed in a lot of ways.

I didn't like the character of Jack Sparrow in this one, either. I really liked Jack in the first movie, a lot, but in this second one he seemed pretty.... lame. More of an antagonist than anything, and a lot unilke what he was originally.

I dunno, I was half asleep for most of it, but it never really grabbed my attention to make me like it.

the only thing i didnt like about was the fact that they tried to bring back almost every single character. it kinda felt cheap because they're attempting to cash in as much as possible on the previous film.
Spoiler:
Captain Barbossa??? F*CKING RIDICULOUS.

anyway, other than that and the absolute cliffhanger ending, i thought it was a pretty solid sequel. and yea, i was feelin tired halfway through, i would missed a lot if LocoColt didnt wake me up every now and then.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will soon. I really like the first part, especially for Johnny Depp playing Jack Sparrow. If it wasn't for him, it would have been just a simple movie, nothing special about it. Depp's acting made the film more entertaining.

When I saw the trailer for the new "Dead man's chest", I was really intrigued, so I'm really looking foward to watching this part. But according to you guys, it's nothing special. Well, everybody has different opinion about movies, so I'll have mine. ^_^

I am yet to see it but I am looking forward to it. Im surprised that you have said it is not as good as the first as by the looks of the trailers, it seems as though it would be a lot better. I thought Jack Sparrow was brilliant in the first one and it would be hard to be better than him so if he isn't as good, there is still Keira Knightley!

I saw this today with my brother and I absolutely LOVED it! It was way better then the first, by far! Jonny Depp plays a hilarious part and it seriously suits him.
I sat with my brother in the cinema, and there was a point that made him jump... he threw popcorn, like three feet into the air.
I don't understand anybody who dislikes this...Wow. Some really good shit. Go see it.

Yeah, probably spoliers ahead. This is your warning.

It didn't really feel like a continuation of the original. Was it a good movie? Absolutely. Was it a good sequel? Absolutely not.

Too little had actually happened during the movie, while only subtle plot themes were developed. Granted, I don't like getting hit over the head with overt plot ideas, and intricate meanings, and all that jazz. However, I do like some things to go on.

I liked how they brought in the other characters, but sometimes it felt a little contrived, and just a little bit confusing. Okay, it was cool to discover Will's father, and all that, but I can't see him being all that big of a key player. Haha, no pun intended.

They had actually screwed themselves over though, with such great hype for this second movie. They hypred it so much, that I really expected much greater things, and a little bit of plot resolution. I was expecting to blow my load watching this, but I felt a little shafted, blowing only $20.50 for two tickets. Oh well, 2007's only a year away

Take into account that when the first movie was created, Sparrow was a completely new character. Depp could do anything he wanted and forge his own story, act how he wanted to act, and play the character to what he thought was the best way to play the character. With the coming of the second, and the eventual third, he has a bunch of rules that he has to follow. He had to think how a fan would take any changes to the character, and that makes the acting a tad more difficult.

With that said, I haven't seen it. I probably will not see it in theaters because I am not a big fan of going to the movies. I enjoy movies, yes, but going to a theater is a completely different experience. It could be that I am an anti-social to the extreme, but I don't really enjoy being around other people when I am trying to watch something. Especially a comedy, or something that may contain a lot of funny bits in it, because I cannot stand loud laughter. It annoys me.

I have read bad reviews from professional magazines and websites, and I have heard good reviews from friends and people I have known for a long time. At the end of the day, I am going to believe the latter. I will see the movie eventually.

Uuhhhh. Go pirates?

i saw the film last night with my family, it was a good film apart from the fact my legs wouldn't at the end of it. I have to agree about the cliff hanger, it made it seem so much better for the ending. Plus the fact they brought back all the old characters back was cool too. Still i think its a shame you don't get to see the krakens head, all you get to see is its tenticles and mouth, i wanted to see all of it!!!!!!!

Overall, a great film and i can't wait for the next one.

I don't really have much to say about it, but I thought it was a good film. I've seen it twice now. Sadly, the ending was ruined by some stupid bitch who thought it was a good idea to talk about the ending while walking out of the theater while I was walking in, so I knew how it was going to end already.

Alot of people complained about the movie, though. I really have no complaints other than we'll probably have to wait another few years to see the third installment.

Next summer.

The third movie is being released next summer.

They filmed much of the third at the same time as the second, so the third is in its final production stages right now. I think all that's left is a scene or two, and some CG work, and they're done with it.

I can agree with you there, but consider this: The second film doesn't stand well by itself; the third film probably won't either. Watch the two of them together? I bet they'll make for one hell of a viewing experience.

I think the only real issue with Dead Man's Chest is that it relies too heavily upon its yet-to-be-released companion. Too many things are left unresolved for a standalone title, but I'm sure it will all be much more awesome when everything is put together.

That said, I really enjoyed the film. I agree that it made for a bad sequel to the first, but like I said, it's not much by itself. Still, the action scenes were great, and it was definitely entertaining to watch.

Cesars' right. It's next summer. People in films should do this more often... I WANT MORE SILENT HILL MOVIES, DAMMIT!!

I think it stood fine by itself -- obviously there were some things that you'd have to take into consideraion about the storylines, but yeah...I agree with watching them together being awesome. I must grab POTC on DVD, as I definately will with the second one.

MSchobocoMS, please don't one-line... The supermoderators don't like to clean up spammy, short posts. Please make more effort and perhaps read the rules to understand that one-lining is against them!
