If you did want to see the dreams in the WoB, you could try staying at the inn in Kohligen or Jidoor when/if you get him after Terra's incident.

True. Most people don't realize that you can take three characters, then hire Shadow on the way. I think it's 3,000 GP. I don't know if it's worth it or not, though ... unless you really want to see the dreams. I usually just wait on Shadow, because I go through the Floating Continent quite a few times -- it's a great place to gain Experience and learn spells -- so Shadow learns quite a bit. Though, other than spells, there's not too much use for ... well, hey, why not.

Other than learning spells, there's no point to levelling up any other character than Celes, because once the world goes haywire, you start off with just Celes, and the level of every character you reunite with (or find) is determined by your existing characters' level. So if you level up Celes like crazy, every other character you find will be a high level, too.
