Why do you believe in what you believe in?

Why do you believe what you believe? Have you researched? Spent time believing? Or do you just leave it all to trust?

As far as it goes for me, I leave quite a bit to trust while still leaving a lot to research and thinking. For things that I can actually do research for, I do what I can and ask for opinions and I ask people that know better than I do to formulate my own opinions. As far as things that nobody can tell you for certain, I just think for a while. But I hardly ever just believe what other people tell me just for the sake of believing something.

No, I'm not asking about religion or anything specific. I'm asking about everything. Why do you believe the things you believe? If you want to talk about religion, fine. Science, fine. Just don't give me the "Well I'm Christian, so..." If you're Christian, just tell us how long and how into the religion you are.

That is a very good thought to persue, I personally believe in nothing.

Everything is just an illusion, reactions within our brains, chemical and eletrical signals.

Er...doesn't that count as 'something'? Seriously. Even if you say you believe in nothing, you believe in that, and that counts as something. So you believe in something. =P

The reason why I believe in what I believe, is because they fit my personality the most, and because I've done a little research. =P

Then either don't post or actually answer the question posed by the thread. I asked why you believed in what you believe in. Not just what you believe in.

That, and I can't agree with the fact that everything is an illusion. For several billion people to all be sharing the same illusion seems quite too far-fetched for me to believe.

Maby it is an illusion. Maby this is all a computer program even and we're just AI programs. Maby this is nothing more than my dream and each of you is just part of the realism of it.

But I don't think so. I believe in what I know, want to be, and think is true. I know some things are, some things are just a dream of mine I've come to believe is true, and some are things I think are true but am wrong about.

But why? The whole point to this thread is to find out why. You just telling me that you think a lot is an illusion doesn't do anything for me. I'd like to know why.

I don't think this is all an illusion. The reason I might though is from playing Star ocen 3.

Everything was so realistic and seemed normal, but in the end they find out that the universe is just a video game for another dimension to play in.

Like FFXI or something. It may seem real to us, but in the end we can't tell anything. All we can do is ignore it and believe in something more worthwhile.

Eh? He did answer earlier. He was commenting back to somebody who made a comment on his first post in this thread. Also, don't modwhore. I'm a moderator, and I, or another moderator will clear things up. If you want something check out, click the report button and I'll get on the problem myself. Modhworing isn't taken to kindly here.

Also, whenhe did answer the question, you just pissed over it anyway. Saying his thoughts on an illusion were far-fetched...You didn't troll or flame, though. I'm just adding something I thought was a bit obvious.

However, I think it's important we respect the thread and type appropriate messages, so yeah... tell us why you guys think what you think on religion/belief, etc.

Personally I think I believe what seems the most logical and rational to me, and indeed, what fits my personality the most. Some people just accept things the way they are learned things are, I don't. I'm not saying I do research on everything I want to believeto proof I'm right, it's just that I'm more critical than msot people. I think the question atually is: Do you believe everything that is told to you or are you critical about everything?
I'm def. the latter one. As a kid, obviously, I accepted a lot of things as they were told me to be, but as I grew older, I started to get less naive, hence, I developed a total of "believes" (not just religions) that seemed good to me or were most logic to me because of some experiences. I'ms orry if anyone thinks this doesn't answer the question, but this is what I had to say about it, thx for reading this.

As far as religion goes, I was raised in a reasonably Christian household, but just before my teenage years I started to doubt, mainly because of the other religion (Evolutionism) being shoved down my throat at school. So I decided to research both sides of the issue for myself, and instead of abandoning my beliefs, my faith became stronger. I've seen plenty of evidence around me and in my own life to support my faith in Christianity, and very little against it. ... So that's why I believe that.

As for normal, everyday stuff ... I usually believe what I find to be reasonable. I may not have a strong belief in it, but I'll buy it. For most of the "important" issues (to me), I'll do research of my own to find what I should support.

I usually believe in things generally on trust. The things I believe in I have always believed in. Sometimes I have never been taught any different, or I just have no other proof against my beliefs and theories.
