before i get this game i want to know: Do you guys roleplay on ff 11?

Hmmm... the only thing I ever do that's remotely role-play is playing around with the /emote function. Other than that, no, I do not role-play. Quite honestly, I've been playing this game for nearly 3 years and I have yet to see someone role-play in the game other than using /emote.

I have heard of people forming role-play linkshells, but I don't see any in the Alexander world.

What do you mean by that? Do you mean like in Guild Wars where there's a RP mode in which you can play along a storyline and a PVP mode where all you do is fight other people?

no i mean a whole server just for roleplaying all the time.Most games have a few.

Well, the entire game is a roleplaying game, but if you're talking about text-type roleplaying, then no... there's none of that at all in FFXI.

i found something!its called formai vile i think and it says its a server for ff11 made just for rping all the time!

Uh...If that is a server thats full gameplay for ffxi, then its private, altough I've never heard of one. If it's just text-based, then go ahead and play it, but it won't be as fun.

But in the case of a private server, I would suggest you stay away from it. FFXi private servers are rare, if they even do exist. And if there are some, then you probably will have a hard time doing anything, since you need other people to do anything.

well even without rp,how fun is this game?what is it like?

There are RP linkshells, it is actually a fairly common thing that is asked in linkshells. Because it is often something that is not really done to any great extent in FFXI people like to know. While I have not personally encountered a linkshell on my server that does RPing I know there are groups that do. It might seem strange to some, but it is not nearly as rare as they might think. But no there is not a specific server deciated solely to RP. You just have to hunt them down, you'll find them.

As for the game being fun, it is all personal opinion, I enjoy the game a lot and there is always something to do. But what I think might not be the same as someone else.

Asking in the FFXI section of a site dedicated to nothing but FF games and a couple other games by the same company isn't always a good way for varied opinions either, lol. ^^;

As to the gameplay, it's very good, but you have to be able to work with other people to do more than maybe level yourself to the upper teens or twenties on any job. Either that or you solo it constantly and that takes a LONG time for the most part. Also a lot of the quests require more than a single person, so you have to get with other people to do that as well.

The game is based very much on teamwork with other people, and on interaction with others as well. However, it should also be noted that it is not for those who are short on time to play. In order to get much of anything done you'll most likely need at least a few hours at a time, due to travel times and sometimes just for dealing with putting parties together.

It's not a game for those who don't want to put time into it. I've got over 153 days of actual playtime into it, and I don't have near all of what I want done. So that should give you some idea of it. ^^;

I have to say that true roleplaying is pretty much dead in MMOs, and FFXI is no exception.
