I would say no. Last week on Norwegain television the news reported that scientists have found radioactive radiation in a kind of sea weed, the radiation is just below the EU's hazard limit. The material is a substance called Technetium 99 and originates from a facility in England called Sellafield, and we all probobly know that radioactive substances is long around before it starts to dissapear, this particular substance will be around for over 200 years and it's not getting any better even though Sellafield has reduced their pollution drastically. Another thought, global warming a well known problem. In Switzerland reports came out last year about their glaziers melting. I don't remember anyfigures but there have been a significant reduction in their all year glaziers. As you may or may not know Switzerland is a country at around 3000 MoH (9000 ft over the sea) Also in Norway we have similar problems and if the glaziers around the world would melt (this is indeed a possible scenario) the sea level will rise by 80 mtrs (240feet) and this would leave cities like New York and even a country like Holland completely under water. The only problem about global waming is not just the glaziers but the polar caps, they are melting fast too. Last year scientists reported that the all year caps on the north pole have been reduced with an area so big it was compared to the British islands, also if the temperature on earth rises even further there will be more tropical storms no only that but there will even be tropical storms in countries like Norway or countries near the south pole. This is just some examples of what may happen and what is happening while we pollute and rape our planet, I would love to see any comments and such on this subject.

| | No, people are seriously underestimating climate change and the natural, delicate balance of the Earth. A couple of degrees and we're screwed. Even though documents are being signed every day, nothing is getting put intp practice, especially in the UK and the US. Sadly, nuclear power seems the way to go, but if an accident like Chernobyl occurs again, we could be truely screwed.

| | In the current situation we are in it would be extremely hard to prevent disasters from happening. But if it became a choice between Global Warming or Nuclear Winter, Winter would be much better imo on a Society level where as global warming would make it too hard to do anything. Global Warming needs to be fixed if we want to continue on our current ways of living otherwise we will end up in a state of disaster. I dunno, call me obsessive but I think a Nuclear Winter would be great! Winter makes people become stronger and more intelligent, the struggle to survive is much harder. Actually I am sure some people would find the warmth to be a benefit, unfortunatly it makes people lazy though .

| | The human race has already done a lot of damage to the Earth. I really don't think the earth will survive the human race. It's already going downhill because of global warming. I saw on television that it's going to get a few degrees warmer each year, it's already hot in the summer here! There are things being done to try and help the earth but I believe it's too late. It's probably just going to get worse and worse in time. I saw on some environment show that the USA has caused a quarter of the world's pollution. That's a really scary thought. It's really scary to think about what might happen if they don't start doing something about it! Hopefully things get better in time but I wouldn't get my hopes up. | ||||||||

98 | Will the Earth survive thehuman race? Yes. Humans come and go, empires rise and fall, while the Earth orbits happily. Our time here, as a species is but a heartbeat in the lifetime of this world, an eyeblink. The Earth has suffered far worst than us. The KT event, the great Permian extinction, and the hypothetical collision with a mars size object {orpheus, I beleive they're calling it}, said to have resulted in the creation of the moon, just to name a few. The fact of the matter is that we can do our worst and the earth will still be here. Perhaps we wont, but the Earth will. Whatever happens, life will go on. Just as it always has.

| | Nothing we do is going to destroy the Earth. The things that we do may make the Earth a place unstable for human life, but that would just end human life, not the life of the planet or the animals.

| | To tell you the truth, if either Global Warming or Nuclear Winter happens, we are screwed. Plain and simple. First Scenario: Global Warming occurs. The water level rises. The heat rises. Disease has bigger vectors. Natural disasters happen more often and more like Katrina. The world eventually dies off because of the harsh enviroment. Second Scenario: There's a nuclear war. Nuclear Winter occurs. Soot and ash rises above the people and into the atmosphere. The sun cannot pierce the cloud. It reaches 30 degrees normally. All plant life dies because of lack of sun and the world dies because of lack of resources and harsh enviroment. Yeah. Again, if either of those two happen, we're screwed. But, the planet will go on until it is either engulfed by the sun or becomes to old and explodes/implodes.

| | What ever has a begining has an end...it us the human race...that will decide how long it shall take for the end to come...because we're all on this boat together...and we have to work together to keep it going...otherwise....the boat stops...and it's the end of the line for us as well...

Thats the problem, some countries are doing things, like Holland are using up to 50% wind power, but other counties are too dependent on oil and they're to scared to wean themselves off it.

| | Well...I thought of an invention that might be to help with electricity...I don't know if it'll work or not yet...I have to get the stuff to build it....it'll take a little time...and I wouldn't care if it got stolen from me...as long as it was used for the better of mankind...

| | WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE IN 2012 MAN!! I'M TELLING YOU WE'RE GONNA DIIIIEEEEE!!! lol just kidding I'm not that freaked. But serioulsy I think we human are a bunch of idiots for polluting the earth as much as we do. We are using our resourses up like crazy too. America has way too many SUV's and most of the people who drive them don't need a huge car like that. My step dad drives an Escalade to work every day and his job is about 30 minutes on the highway away. What sucks is nothing is getting done to significantly reduce pollution or slow it's cause. I know there is that new E 85 ethenol gas but it's going to be a while before the majority of cars are using it. Most people aren't worried about global warming because they say "Well I'll be dead before anything crazy happens" or "The icecaps aren't gonna melt and flood the earth." Until the sea level rises significantly or we have freak natural or should I say unnatural disaters no much will change. But if it does get that far everyone's lives are going to change. We might have to ration gasoline and take other drastic measures. I went to this NYLC(National Young Leaders Conference) thing in Washington D.C. last fall. I was in a room with about 100 kids my around my age and they had a guy ask us what we thought about global warming. Only one kid said he thought it wasn't true because his town had seen it's coldest tempuratures in over a 100 years. I said to a kid next to me "That's one small area out of the whole world. That's not proof it doesn't exist, that's not even evidence. If anything it's evidence that it does exist; It only goes to show that there is an imbalance in planet. Or maybe it's just a combonation of some a cold front and maybe some other weather things. Didn't mean to rant about global warming. As for the quetion, it all depends on what I jus ranted about. I think if we continue to pollute as we do most of the word will be wiped out, maybe some areas will survive, or maybe not. We'll just have to wait unTIL 2012 MAN!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE IN 2012 MAN!!! AZTEC CALENDARS MAN!! OMFG METEORS AND EARTH QUAKES!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!!

| | We ain't killing the planet, were killing ourselves. Earth can survive but it's life forms can't. Why? Because of what we're doing. I've always liked to think that before we kill ourselves off, we'll find another habitable planet and move to it. That might happen, but does it bother me? No. We gotta die anyway. | ||||||||
