Filefront is full of hypocritical admins (READ)

So, I always use RPG Maker 2k for PC and make these RPG games. My friends wanted to try them but they are too big to send over a messenger. So I uploaded them to Filefront so they can download them. (Filefront is a file/image hosting website)

Well, I got an e-mail today stating that a game I made myself is somehow illegal and bypasses a copyright or something stupid like that. So I asked how so if I AM THE MAKER OF THEM. Their answer: IT JUST IS. (Sounds like children are managing this website)

Well anyway, I was browsing other peoples files, when I came across the admin ELMO. He had music files on his file sharing account from bands like Disturbed, and Godsmack, and Rise Against. Another admin had the boggle game zipped up in a rar file and on his sharing account..

So I e-mailed the highest ranking admin and asked him why their allowed to do it and we're not....he tells me because they are in charge.....

Now I am on the phone with my lawyer seeing if I can make a lawsuit against this.

It is very much correct you are in the right, but I'd suggest checking over your game first. Does it contain any trademark labels from companies, etc?

Be sure of your definate innocence before doing anything rash.

"OMFG SUE!" Aren't there other ways around this? The lawyer's fees are barely worth the loss of your dignity.

That may be true, but I had many pictures of memories uploaded to that account (such as pictures of my prom, every homecoming from high school, me and my girlfriend)

I have checked with the game files and everything that is with my built game. There is no copyrights or other things from the construction program itself.

My built game is the only thing.

I have e-mailed them the program I built the game with (RPG MAKER 2k) and a screenshot of the files, screenshots of when I was in construction of the game, etc.

Was anything said to you whilst on the phone to your lawyer? Are you actually making a case out of this??

I do think the smallness of this lawsuit is rather unessecary, but since you had some things on there which you would like to keep and they aren't even giving you a real reason, by all means, go for it. I hope this goes well for you.

Actually, they're technically in the right, because even if you make a game using RPG Maker, the content itself, is copyright to the makers of RPG Maker. The ideas are yours, yes. But the content you used is copyrighted.

So in that aspect, they are in the right of way. But yes, they are being hypocritical in having copyrighted files in their own space. In that aspect, they are in the wrong.

My god. I've heard some stupid gripes in my day, but to actually try and sue a company because they told you what you can and cannot do within their service?

Uhm. Hi. It's called a Terms of Service, maybe you should check it out sometime.

Yeah, I don't know how old you are Sean, but your probably not old enough to understand.

Them doing stuff that they don't let other people do even though its their website doesn't make it right. If I e-mail disturbed (If I knew their e-mail address) and asked them, they would probably say they don't care who those people are, they are still in the wrong.

Thats like Bush saying (For example the border control thing) saying lets kick out all the illlegal immigrants, but he wants to keep his friends in which are part of the population of illegal immigrants. Its hipocritism because he is letting two or three of his friends slip through the system, but the others don't get to be part of it.

Unfortunatly they are right, I have had the same problem with a picture been stolen, I could get it taken down but its not worth the money. Read the Terms of Service and I am sure they would have mentioned denial of service to files the feel shouldn't be there.

I admit thats extremely unfair. But like Piroblaze said, you are both in the wrong and right. But I think you have every right to speak to your lawyer about it. If they upload their own files then surely you should be able to even if the content of your level is from the game.

My lawyer says I have a strong case against it. I have decided to sue for money, maybe 2000 fo lost possessions (technically) and mental anguish (spell check)

Now I just need to find out when the date will be set.

You need a serious reality check.

1) You are not the originator of the code for the game. The makers of RPG Maker 2000 are.

2) The terms of service negates any legal standing you think you have.

3) It's because of jackasses like you who jump to "OH! OH! SUE! GIVE ME MONEY BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU DID!!!!!!!!" that our legal system and country is ****ed up.

4) If you are so damn bad ass with your ideas, why not host your files on your own damn server? I mean, you obviously have to be older and therefore have the possible means to do so indicated by your reply to Sean.

I recommend you stop being like the majority of the country. Everyone expects hand outs for this, money for that, being given whatever the **** they want for whatever dumbass reason they can think of.

Yes, it true that the admins there may be hypocritical regarding their policies. It's their choice, though. You have no rights over that, and complaining and sueing over it just makes you look like a societal leech.

Get out some more. There's so much more to life than meaningless things like this, and there's absolutely no point in you freaking out over it.

I'm 19, and I think I have a pretty good understanding of what a Terms of Service is, and how, when you register for their service, you are automatically agreeing to their terms of service.

Hell, if Blizzard wanted to, for absolutly no reason at any time, they could ban my WoW account, just because they THINK I was cheating. Could I sue? Of course not, because I AGREED to let them do it.

The same applies to FFXI. Or any other MMORPG which reserves the right to ban your account at will.

By the way, I don't know how old you are, but you're probably not old enough to understand proper word usage.

And that note RIGHT THERE will absolutely negate your lawsuit. It will render your entire case null and void. They don't need a reason to remove anything you put up -- EVER. It's right there in the Terms of Service. They can delete whatever they want, whenever they want to. Your lawsuit is a waste of your money and your lawyer's time. I'm sorry, but you better start saving to pay off the lawyer you just wasted your money on.

By the way... did your lawyer even look at their TOS? If he did, then he KNOWS you will lose the case, and he's being a douche and swindling you out of your cash.

Don't get me wrong. It sucks that your stuff was deleted, and on that note I can sympathize, but you're going insane over something you cannot control.
