How it works is you have 8 Counters paired with 8 Mimes, then when barret is attacked he counters 8 times with the first attack he used. So when barret used Angermax, after he is attacked he counters 8 times with Angermax. The only problem with this strategy is that it takes a long time to master the materia and if Emerald does Airtam Storm as his first attack you lose.

To give all you people an English site with the same strategy, here it is. I will warn though that this version is somewhta weaker than the Japanese original but then again, it's the same concept.

And you're right, he uses a hero drink on Barret. Those help to increase the chance of dealing 9999 damage. If you notice, he also doesn't do anthing with the other character so as not to interupt the Barret Limit string. By the way, this also works with Cid's and Cloud's limits.

Also, to answer the question here. Yes, he uses multiple counter materia linked with mime materia. That way, he can keep miming the limit and if he is attacked once and survives, he counters with all the mimes he has equipped. In this case, that's a total of 8 repeats of the limit (one for each mime materia). One more thing, Barret has a protect ring equipped to minimise the damage that the weapon does to him so he has a better chance of surviving the attack and then is able to counter with the mime materia.

EDIT: Wow, I just noticed all that was answered already. Don't I feel silly now...

You don't need a hero drink to maximise attack, just raise a characters attack to 255. attack = strenghth + weapon. So for Cloud raise his strength with power sources to 155, then equip him with Ultima weapon. Omnislash will approx 150,000 damage. This way, you don't need use a turn for the hero drink. Also you can equip a character with the Tough Ring (raises strength and vitality by 50).

But then again, for those with a life, raising stats that high is not an option hehe. I'm sure the hero drink is a good enough solution for the masses. But then again, getting that many mimes and counter materia takes forever as well meaning you might as well be raising the stats simultaneously. Whateva!

Actually getting power sources is'nt that hard and time consuming. Equip Yuffie with the Conformer and give her Morph Materia. Then Morph the unknown 1 monster in the sunken Genilka into power sources. I would'nt bother mastering all that materia, it would take ages. I beat Emerald using Cloud, Tifa and Yuffie. The only materia I used was HP Plus (5), Under Water and enemy skill. Also 5 mega elixirs and about 30 X-Potions. I only attacked Emerald on the limit breaks.

Of course it's not hard to beat Emerald Weapon. The point is that they did it with a limited amount of time and little effort.

Also, the conformer is good for morphing but you still don't run into Unknown 1 100% of the time. You have a chance of getting the other monsters as well. That's why it does actually take a good deal of time.

That's pretty cool. But I wouldn't want to beat it that way. It looks to cheesy in my opinion. Grind it out without that method to know if you are really good enough to defeat Emerald Weapon. The people who can do it without that method are very good.

i think that the blue one is counter magic. and the yellow is mime.

and all of the slots are filled with counter magic and mime together. so every time he is hit me mimics his last attack for ever set. and with hero drink he can mimic his own limit so many times and do increasing damage.

edit:yeah i jsut noticed it was awnserd also and the weird thing was there was already 2 people that awnserd before me.
