Anime to Reality.

I was at work today and I started to ponder about a certain topic in my head when I had noticed something that reminded me of an Anime I really enjoyed some time ago.

Which Anime do you believe will be closest to reality in the near or distant future.
*Keep in mind that I don't care what time frame the Anime is based on. If you believe it is near future than state an estimated year, decade or century when you feel it will ocour.*

A simple question really. Open for all forms of talk and debate. Now what I noticed at work doesn't matter, but... one can easily think of such a question. Same for a game... sometimes.

A few Animes that pop into my skull are Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in The Shell.

Cowboy Bebop

We are ever nearing a technological breakthrough that will one day allow us to inhabit other plants. Although I do believe that might not happen untill many years after 2076... it's still a possabilty. We will have all new types of transportation, law breakers and exchange rates. I wonder sometimes... Will I ever get to fly on ro even pilot an airship? Maybe in this life when I'm old and falling apart, or maybe in a new life as child that yurns for adventure. Either way... I'll get to be on one. ^_^ It was also quite unique how Earth became almost uninhabitable. LOL. Yep... I see that in the future as well one day.

Ghost in the Shell

Artificial Inteligence might be nice on one side of the story. You have your ups where the use of an artificial brain allow you to live through the full extent of your life and then some. On the downs... this brain might go defective, hence the main illness in the Ghost in the Shell series... before S.A.C. We will always have our terrorists yet some will do us more good than harm it seems. I suppose some goverment always have feard such unveiling of truths that thy dare to keep hidden. But than again... it wouldn't be the first time ours or any other goverment has kept the cure to any illness under lock and Key. The only difference in the future... better coffee.

So... what are your opinions of such possibilities. Will you ever hope to see it and feel it when they finally meet reality? Will you be the one that takes us in that next step closer to the truth? Or... Will you be the one to take us to that scenario that will end up being so familiar to an Anime of what will "then" be... old?

I'd really like to see Hellsing made into a movie. Either that or Elfen Lied.

I'd think that they could do Hellsing pretty easily, but I'd be worried about them messing it up somehow and diluting it. You'd think they would have been able to handle BloodRayne, but no. Gods no. Never watch that movie.

Anyway, yeah, Hellsing. I'm going to go with Hellsing.

*EDIT*

Son of a bitch. Here I am going on about anime into a movie when this isn't even the same subject. Let this be a lesson to you all! Read carefully! haha....

/*EDIT*

Closest to reality? Hm. That's a tough one. I'd have to say that Elfen Lied could be close. I know it sounds a bit far fetched, but it's only a matter of time until genetic research goes out of control (which it will and we all know it) and something similar to a diclonius is created.

That's really hard to say. There are several Anime and Manga series that can be close to reality. Nana, Kamikaze Grrls and the like could possibly be real; You never know.

LOL. Yes children... please remember to read first. ^_~ I had read that earlier today before I went to work and I though nothing of it until I read it when I got home. But you have a good point there. Genetic research is quite energetic these days and I shall just sit back until they allow human testing. Then I'll stand up and eat some popcorn and route for the expiriment to go wrong so we can have geneticaly engineered humans. *ownd*

But yeah... just incase anyone else wonders... To reality, not movies.

Well I don't see it happening for a long time but I would love to see the Gundam world come to life. I mean fighting in tanks would be pretty cool but imagine if we were fight in those huge mobile suits! Although I think in the next 20 - 40 years we would have reached the age where people will have their genes altered to be much much more resourceful and stronger.

I think something like Berserk could of been a reality but nothing like DBZ or even FMA would happen, it would be cool finding out you were a SSJ or you could catch your own Pokemon but meh.

I would say seriel experiments lain or .hack//SIGN just cause it has to do with advanced computer technology and I have a feeling we're getting closer and closer to extreme capability with our computers like they are in these two anime series.

While Odin hopes it happens, I think the Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam, the original series is probably the most like to happen of most of the anime. Simply because while science fiction, it is highly possible to happen since other than the beam weaponary, we can already create just about everything in the Gundam universe to begin with. Gundams and Zakus are not that hard to make, colonies would be difficult just due to its size, but it is not out of the question, if we mine asteroids. The only thing that we really are lacking from the Gundam universe is the afore mentioned beam weaponary, we do have lasers, but Beam Rifles and Beam Sabers are still a little science fiction for us at this point. But as we advance it will most likely be possible to create lasers as powerful as the beam weapons they have. The U.C. timeline might not be too far from us, which might be why so many people enjoy it because it is something that is possible and very human.

I would agree that the Ghost in the Shell universe is also a highly probable reality since a lot of it is based on certain sciences we already have a partial grasp on. While we might not be creating any cybernetic brains anytime soon, everything else in there is highly likely given enough time.

Considering the largely supernatural aspects of a lot of anime it would be hard to consider a lot of possible futures. Cowboy Bebop does fall into the realm of possiblities, though we are probably a long way from creating doorways in space for travel. Outlaw Star is also a possible future discounting all of the Tau Magic and Leyline. Noir technically could be happening now, though seeing as it does not really need to be affecting the future to happen it fits in anywhere you want it to. Lain and .hack fall into possibilities depending on how the internet progresses.

Alright... I have sorta gathered up one of my bigger answers. Kind of how two animes become unto one reality. These factors come into mind. Trigun and something along the lines of Matrix or Nausicaa. In both Nausicaa and Matrix... we are all delivered unto a harsh relality via human creation and or lack of knowledge on how to fix past mistakes properly. What results after is desert like Planet hence forth Trigun. Alot of people ended up on The Planet Gunsmoke due to Human error. I use Trigun as the example because I relized how hot it was today over here and I just enjoy this hot weather. ^_^ I say bring on the drought, bring on the Sands. Nothing would please me more than a desilate planet covered in sand that would just happen to be known as Earth.

But again... Animes today are starting to reflect more and more on the mistakes and errors of now and past. And they are not far off. Humans such as ourselves have a long way to go 'till we fully understand how to take responsibility for our errors, but... that day may never come. SOmeone once told me that it's just human nature to make such mistake and build anew. Than I asked... Is it Human Nature? or human habit?

But yeah... Trigun all the way. ^_~

Nausicaa of the vally in the wind might be in the near future i dunno say about 13-17 years maybe if any one wants to build things from a cartoon... and a question comes to mind when u have kids they have kids and they have kids (you get my point....) what will the future be like how will it change? you'll never no..... it could be like a random anime that you dont think would be in the future like..... fruits basket that might happen.

boogiepop phantom

jkjk - however, i don't see gundam ever happening. bombs and computer controlled explossives are a much more effective way of killing people/getting your point accross. i don't think any world government is going to say "we need giant mech suits for our soldiers to wear." it's just too impractical.

i think the near/quasi-distant future won't be too different from now. sure technology is advancing at a breakneck pace and corporations are slowly consuming all of the world's money and power - but i don't think there's much to indicate that high school in 2026 will be too different from Azumanga Diaoh.

but then again, in a hundred years, who knows what the world will be like. the way things are going the world might just be a big post-apocalyptic nightmare.

I think I could possibly name a few Anime that have already been mentioned, and not mentioned, that could happen now or later.

Azumanga Daioh
Noir
Yakitate Japan!
Prince of Tennis
Love Hina
Mezzo
Ai Yori Aoshi

Those are all I can think about right now, that are happening now. Gundam and Air Gear can happen. Definately Air Gear.

Air Gear's ATs are basically motorized inline skates. So I can see this happening sometime in the near future. And when the time comes, believe you me, I will be a Storm Rider.

I honestly hate how anime handles sports since Prince of Tennis was brought up. While a good anime, they treat Tennise like it's some ancient Japanese art.

After my football-obseesed friend read Eyeshield 21, he hated the world.

Anyways, I haven't read this whole thread but Ghost in the Shell would qualify because it shows a futuristic view of technologies we have already begun to utilize.

Honey and Clover is the most realistic anime I have watched for obvious reasons.

Did I mention BoBoBo-BoBo-BoBo?

To tell you the truth... I just finished watching this entire series over the weekend. It was quite... incredible as they played out both of the main characters pursuit of truth.

But in all honesty... I would not be suprised one bit to find out that dealings such as "NOIR" aren't already happening as we speak. Of course there are plenty of people who seek to manipulate others with religous endeavors and prophecy, and this I know has gone on for centuries.

I, personally think that the technology from Evangelion has a possible future. There is already a kind of liquid "oxygen" that deep sea divers use that sounds much like LGM. (Sp?) ...but Dark Vivi is right; it wouldn't be suitable to make huge robots like that-the trend is to minimize size, not maximize that. However, in a lot of things, that is coming to a plateau.

The one thing we need to learn before another jump is how to use fewer, but more powerful things-it means less can go wrong.

Yeah, Gundam and Evangelion are definitely not the direction modern warfare is moving towards. In the future, warfare will be definied by the country with the most robots to do their bidding. But then again, robots will never be able to do one thing that a human can. Make decisions fast in critical situations. They'll deal the way they were programmed and the loss of efficiency will be quite noticeable. But I still say the form of a Gundam is too impractical. What's the point of making it in a humanoid form? It's completely illogical. By the way, in Japan, full scale Gundam's have been built already. They look pretty cool but nothing more than a fan's dream come true.

Ghost in the Shell is definitely possible. I'm not talking as much about the Ghost in the Shell world depicted in S.A.C. but rather the one in the original. The world only seemed like a slightly more modernised version of ours and therefore quite probable. But I figure rather than replacing human parts with robotic ones, they will regrow limbs and such as they are currently researching in the field of genetics.
