Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Who here has played Disgaea: Hour of Darkness?

I have, and I can safely say it is an amazing, so much that I wrote a review on it, and I wish for all of you to see it:

*Note: This is my first Review for a game ever, so it isn't perfect.*

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is one of the best Strategy RPG's ever made; it has a lot to offer. It surpassed the limit of many games: Instead of the usual limit of level 99, you can level up to level 9999, offering a better challenge than most games.

The Gameplay in this game is mindboggling, offering you many things to do. Some examples of these are: The Dark Assembly, the Item world, secret levels, etc.
The Dark Assembly is where most of the main challenges happen. Here, you can pass bills to obtain more valuable items from the shops, to make enemies stronger, to make your new characters and so on.
In the Item world, you battle your way through many floors in any item, weapon, armour or accessory you want to increase its stats, thus you can deal more damage or recieve less damage, etc. But that isnt its only feature, you can also gain very rare items from the final floor of an item if it has 100 floors, these items are some of the most powerful in the game, so it is best to wait until you are further on in the game.
Another great feature of the game is that when you complete it, you are not even half way to the 100 % completion mark. There are mutiple secret Quests. They involve obtaining every character class and completing the secret levels that can only be accesed by passing a bill at the Dark Assembly. But, the main secret quest is to increase you rule over the Netherworld. This is obtained by defeating the Supreme Overlord and the Lord of Terror, but its a challenge you should only take up when you are at a very high level e.g. 4500.
And, what would an RPG be without the quest to try and gain all of the secret endings? Not an RPG that's what. In the game, there are many secret endings, so once you complete it, you can try and beat it again to gain the other endings.
To top off that last part, there is also a special feature called cycles. A cycle is when you complete the game and you are given the choice to save everything you have and use it all in your next New Game start.

The graphics for this game are very good based on the graphical qualities that most games had in 2003. It did not involve that much movement in cutscenes. It would show the character on one side, while the one he/she was talking to was on the other side. Then, if the character showed a different emotion when speaking, the position he/she was in would change. Example: If a character was in a happy mood, they would be in a happy position, but if they got angry, they would change to their angry position.

The sound is quite ok, but it wasnt as good as i expected it to be. I did like the fact however, that they managed to make great voices for different emotions that the character made. Even with this, there is not much you can say on the sound, so i will leave it at that.

The Storyline is just pure brilliance. You are Laharl, Prince of the Netherworld, where demons reside. Laharl wakes up after a long 2 years sleep and is very confused by this fact. He asks himself why this happens. To top it all off, Etna, the Vassal of King Krichevskoy, Laharl's father and Overlord of the Netherworld tells Laharl that King Krichevskoy has passed away. During the course of his death, demons from all over the Netherworld seized the chance for the title of Overlord, thus, they forget that the King even had a son, the successor to the Throne. Laharl is infuriated by the fact that he has been forgotten, so he asks Etna to accompany him in the long progress of succeeding the title of Overlord . Etna agrees and they set out to many different part of the Netherworld to kill off any demon that is trying to gain the title of Overlord.
During the course of the game, you meet many different people that assist you during your quest.

This game is great for people that like to think out a battle plan when they are playing games and try out different strategies to defeat certain bosses.

----------------------------

I'm planning on revamping this Review though.
