Post Advent Children Ships Over 2.4 Million Units

Some Quick news regarding the success of the recent Advent Children DVD release:

SE and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment just recently announced that the english version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has reached 1.4 million sales. This figure includes both UMDs and DVDs. Combined with Europe and Japan, Advent Children has shipped more than 2.4 million units worldwide.

SE anticipates even more success, "With the French version having recently been released on June 7, I look forward to the upcoming European-language releases, which will make the film available to an even larger audience around the world," explains Shinji Hashimoto, Corporate Executive and Producer of Square Enix.

Huh...so you figure they're going to crank out another CG movie if sales continue to rise?

For a direct to DVD release movie 2.4 million is very good I think. There was very limited theaterical release, but it was basically a DVD release, Disney sequel movies. And at like 2.4 million even only at $15, it is like 40 million almost, I don't know how much is actual profit but probably did better in sales than spirits within. SE will more than likely make another movie, hopefully not FF related this time. I think a non-FF with the same quality and a solid drama/action movie will be more receptive to a larger audience for theaterical release.

I dunno about that. You can rely on the FF fanbase to snap up a high quality CG movie so long as the story is either not complete crap or related to one of the previous FF's.

America and most of the world seems to only be receptive to complete CG movies in the form of family comedy. (at least thats all that gets made with it that I've seen). i'm not sure a serious CG drama would be accepted.

Even the Animatrix was based around the Matrix Trilogy.

I can't think of any other serious CG films off the top of my head that were successful. And certainly not any TV series that lasted for mroe than one or two seasons.

i thought the spirits within and advent children were excelent films, people didnt agree with TSW cause it didnt follow one of the games it was a story of its own but most FF fans ive talked to say they liked it.

advent children is a work of art i dont think it would have made a good game but it makes a good movies no wonder it sells quick.
i live in ireland on the day of its release in the shops most shops sold out right away i was lucky to find one, i never knew FF was so popular were i live lol.

It's a really good dvd. My only complaint would be I wish they had made a version in English. The subtitles are done poorly, but luckily the action, effects, and overall polish more than make up for it. In fact, from what I've heard, we're lucky to have it at all in America.

They made it in English? Gah, I should have known. My friend is from Korea and it only had English subtitles. Where's a good place to get it?

I'll have to try Gamestop then. Yeah, we tried that. His version doesn't have it I don't think. His version is the kind they sell for 2 dollars there. Many normal shops there remake games and stuff for a lot cheaper illegally. I wish I'd seen it in English.

I just hope they release it here in Czech Republic.
Of course I can get it via Internet from other countries, but I'm still a sucker for regular shops where You get to carry the thing to the counter and empty Your wallet for it.
And if Square-Enix make another CG film, FF related or non-related, I'm sure they will get it right again and it will hopefully encourage production of more CG films that are not family comedies.

Nice to hear that it's a success, but really, it's hardly surprising is it? And dependant on the success of DoC when it gets a Europe release will really tell if SE hav plans to milk FFVII any more (if that's possible).
