No, she should not be sueing Myspace. Of course. I'm not saying that she wasn't in the wrong for going in the first place. Bad, bad bad idea.

But NO PERSON deserves or is "asking for it". You have no idea how shitty it is to have someone do that to you. I mean, it's one of the worst things in the world, and to see a bunch of people laughing and whatever is just plain awful.

No, it wasn't the smartest of decisions. She should never have gone in the first place. Regardless... that doesn't give someone a golden ticket to molest someone else.

As for your comparason, no, people shouldn't be running around yelling things in gang areas. That doesn't mean they deserve to die either.

That's what I'm trying to say. Of course she didn't deserve to be raped, but when you do something that stupid, it's likely to happen. Many people don't care that they don't have a right to do something.

Man people are stupid, I agree it's her fault, why would you meet someone on there and tell them to see you somewhere? Kids like that are stupid! Everone knows that some people are "not all there". That's the dumdist thing i've heard all summer!

And yes even if she is young and "blind" don't you think she should of thought about what ahe was doing?........On a personal note a family member of mine was raped....But the thing is she didn't (and would of had more sense than to) talk to a random person on Myspace and say ill meet you here. She was lunged at behind a counter. And the ones that are unknowingly attacked are the ones i feel for.

I agree. It's not myspace's fault that she lied about her age or anything of the sort. It's not her fault that she was conned by some older scumbag who wanted to have sex with a minor. She can't control when she's born and how old she is. Granted, she can control the sites she goes to. However, when some older guy starts talking to a younger girl, it can be easy as pie to convince her to meet up with you. Far too many "prince charmings" out there.

It is a horrible and downright disgusting thing that had happened to her, but it's not her fault, and neither is it myspace's. You can't sue a playground if a skeevy old guy starts talking to little kids... and myspace is just that, an internet playground.

And as for bashing NYC, there really aren't any slums here. You want slums, go to Detroit, or Trenton. Granted, Harlem is the blackest part of the city, but NYC is safe enough where I feel comfortable walking around at night in shitty areas.

OK, I was being very insensitive. No one deserves to be sexually assaulted. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It's just that, I have a hard time sympathizing with the girl and the family. Because, WHY are they suing MySpace? Why not go after the guy who raped the girl? Perhaps with MySpace's assistance? I mean, you can ask or subpoena MySpace for records of the perp. Hell, check the girl's phone records since she's dumb enough to give out her number so he must've called her. Find out his number, then track his address from there.

That's why I don't feel sorry for the girl and was quick to say it's her fault. But now, yeah. It ain't her fault. She just did a series of monumental mistakes. You can pretty much expect kids to do that. So, where's the parent's responsibility in this? How can they expect MySpace to verify the age of every single one of if its millions of users, when her parents can be troubled to look over her shoulders when she's online? Her and her family's reaction to it is misdirected, almost as if they are taking advantage of MySpace involvement for publicity and money. Now, if MySpace refused to pass over files and records, fine, sue them. Otherwise, it's as stupid as suing a mall because you met someone there who then raped you.

The fact that she got suckered into actually meeting up with the person and going into a private place with the man is dumb enough. Now the girl who was assaulted was very very stupid, BUT she's young so I refuse to blame her that much. I more so blame the parents on this. They should have been upkeeping what was going on with someone that young.

And the fact that the parents are trying to sue myspace is bull. I agree with being upset but it's not the sites fault it's called being a bad parent and the guy's fault obviously. Hey I blame the website least of anyone else involved in the whole sherade.

Anyways, everyone who get's assaulted/raped/stalked by someone they've met on myspace needs to look elsewhere for a scapegoat for their own stupidity. Not only is this girl a moron for getting involved with someone she probably barely knew, but the parents are doing a half-assed job. I remember when I was around that age and the internet wasn't nearly as common in households. We had it, and my parents screened EVERYTHING I looked at. This was back in the day when you could search slick and not have half a billion porn sites show up in .10 seconds.

While I have to admit she used poor judgement, I agree as well that mySpace is not responsible for her actions. She seems to be very immature and should know better even at 14, that the world can be a nasty place.

we need to stop blaming others for our own mistakes and own up to what we have done. The courts are always clogged with this shit.

As for the situation itself, I don't think she should have been raped, but basically it's her word against his. If it did happen, i feel very sorry for both parties.

A person can use words (threats, etc) to coerce the victim to do things with the perpetrator.

Besides, I also agree with the sentiment that she's 14 years old! Everyone is holding her to the maturity level of themselves (common age being 18-21?) 14 is not old! Nor is 14 mature.

But yeah, wtf is up with the parents eh? Because I certianly wouldn't believe that a 14 year old would come up with the idea of "hey! let's sue myspace!". That totally has to be the parents trying to cash in on their daughter's misfortunes, which I think is sick as well.

I agree... I mean if I were to go out tomorrow and got raped in a bathroom stall, I'd be going after the prick who did that to me. I wouldn't be suing the bar for allowing it to happen in the first place. So yeah, lots of parental manipulation seems afoot.

Funny, when I was fourteen I was mature - for my age, anyway. I even looked a lot older (not that that matters so much, just stating). You can't group every young person into some category, because there ARE peple more mature then others at those ages. This girl in just one of the majority of immature brats. She's as stupid as her stupid parents.
