The Military

Does anyone have any family or friends or are you yourself in the military?I'm only curious because my brother just graduated from boot camp in Parris Island,South Carolina. He joined the USMC.I'm proud of him,but scared to death becaus eof this war and he does have to go overseas during 1 year of his active 5 years.Hes doing president security which isn't too bad,hes on his way to Florida for 15 days to do stuff with his recruiting officer, and then he goes to Infantry(sp?) school in North Carolina for a while, and after that we have no idea where hes going. So feel free to brag about your soldiers here, hehe.

I've got a friend at uni in the Officer Training Corps, and 2 friends at home who are in the army. Well, one is properly in it, another is training... I think. I havn't spoken to either of them in a while.

For all three of them it seems to be going very well. And the first one has that walk which says "I have army training. I'm hard". It's kinda amusing really ^_^

Well good luck to them.In boot camp they called my brother "fat kelley" he told us(our lastname is Kelley) and one of teh drill instructors hated him so it wasn't very pretty, but he did have a good time with some stuff and he did really good at the rifle range he got a Marksman pin.He did 205 and highest you could get was 235.

I am in the Navy and I am sitting comfortably in an office building at a shore command. It is nice. However, there are some things happening and I could very well be shipped overseas for a good six months, but that is neither here nor there or any bit of anyones business so I am not saying anything else on that subject.

My brother is in the Army, he joined shortly after I joined the Navy. He did it to show me up, I think. But really, he wanted to get out of working two shitty jobs. He actually loves being overseas, mostly because he can't see past the money. I don't have a lot of contact with him, but we talk at least once every month or so.

I forget what I'm typing.

My Great Grandad fought with the desert rats (the 7th Armoured Division of the Brittish Army) in the Second World War. He fought in both world wars, yet didn't live to see me born and died peacefully. Although I don't know him, I know he was a great guy and am proud of him fighting for our little country called England.

Although I dont know much, hence the short post, i've found an extract about the Desert Rats here.

Both of my grandfathers were in WWII. My mom's dad was in the Air Force, doing God knows what. My dad's dad was a Marine, island hopping, most notably on Iwo Jima. I read a commendation that he had received and supposedly upon landing on the island, the supply sergeant was injured or killed, and he had decided to assume his duties and to get supply lines going from the boats to the encampments. Also, according to my gandma, he had to go tunnel clearing with a flamethrower once.

My uncle (mom's brother) fought in Vietnam and was killed. In doing some research, he was injured by a mortar in the Tay Ninh province and and died from his wounds. He was a paratrooper in the 51st cavalry. And thats all I know.

My dad was supposed to go to Nam, but he was always a few pounds too fat. Funny story, actually. He was working in a little candy store at the time when he was drafted. The owner, a real cheap Jew, as my dad called him, didn't want to hire someone else while my dad was away, because that would cost more money. Basically, the owner kept giving him snacks and feeding him extra just to keep him just slightly over the limit, and thus most likely sparing his life.

I have a cousin from Arizona that's currently a fighter pilot, but I've never met them, just heard of them lol.

My Grandfather served during WWII. He flew in a B-52 (or 25? i get that confused) I don't what his job was though. I was in the Civil Air Patrol for 6 months. I didn't really like it, I couldn't stand being so strict all the time or marching around or having to shine my boots, keep my greens starchy, and beeing told to cut my hair. I'm not trying to down play that the CAP or any other military organizations, I'm just saying it's not my can of beans.

I understand hehe,I think its a B-52.My brother has to get his hair cut every week, and theres nothing there to begin with soe xactly what is he supposed to get cut?but he got it cut...looks kinda the same, because it didn't grow in very fast,i'm a bit amused at that but I think its rediculous a hair cut every week. Also he has to pay his own way for where theys end him, which isn't right at all, because its in his orders. The government used to pay their way,way back then,my uncle told me,and my uncle was surprised that my brother didn't have to do their own clothes in boot camp because way back then the recruits had to handwash their own,now they have someone do them for them.

I have two older brothers, both in the Air Force. And both pilots. One flies the KC-135 refueler out of Mildenhall, England, and the other flies the B-2 bomber out of Whiteman AFB in Missouri. He does air shows all the time, and is to be deployed for about 2 months this summer to Guam. Not so bad. My brother in England is never deployed much, he just flies to places and flies back. He'll return to the US this August, though.

Damn, RAF Mildenhall's still in operation? That's where i landed when i was in the Air Force. I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge in the early 80's, when Grenada and KAL 007 happened and terrorism was on the rise. We always had training alerts where we had to wear our CBW gear for 12 hours at a time, and since I was in Nuclear Ordnance, well you can imagine. Personally i'm glad we never had to use it.

My tiome in the AF was awesome, I loved it, but i look back on it now and i think i would have chosen a different path had i knwon then what i know now.

I've been considering joining the military, it's my fallback if I don't get my shit together within the next few years.

My cousin is in the Navy, and was just sent over to Iraq recently, he joined up back in December of '04 and was shipped out for basic about 6 months later.

His brother, a cousin my age (Older by a month) just joined the Navy as well, and just finished his basic training a few weeks ago. I think he joined the Navy... I'm not sure.

My grandfather was in the Navy, too, lmfao. During WWII he served as a radio man on a cruiser, no idea what, no idea when or where. After he died a couple years ago he was buried in Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetary here in St. Louis, where he and his wife had a plot reserved as soon as he came out of the Military. His wife died some 17-18 years ago, though.

My dad served in the Army back in the 70's, but didn't go to Vietnam, he says he wishes he would've. I say I'm glad he didn't, I'd rather be here today. =P He was a Sergeant, then he dropped after so long and came home. He and my mom both have plolts in Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetary when either of them die.
