Just like most of the other people in this tread, I belive that television, music videos and poor parenting are corrupting the next generation of children. I find it to be very sad. I know many people my age who are don't care about where their life is heading or anything. I dont exactly know why they do such things, but I do think that parents let childen get away with too many things and become spoiled. If these children grow up and think the world is handed to them on a silver patter, then how will they be able to survive the real world?

A thousand years ago, people idolized knights that went around and killed the infidels. Their prizes for doing these things were women, riches, and land.

Nowadays, people idolize the rappers that go around and kill people in turf wars. Their prizes for doing these things are women, money, and respect.

Then every single show should be cancelled, and Will and Grace should be run non-stop. There is not nearly enough tolerance of homosexuals in the world. Even if you could prove that homosexuality was a choice, so is Judaism, and the Holocaust was perfectly acceptable.

A couple of people pointed out political correctness, which is far worse than little Johnny seeing Eminem on the television. Kids these days have no idea how things work. The best thing about the first tests in college was the look on these kids faces when the test had questions that actually had to be researched, and not something the teacher spoon fed you for the entire course. Education is a joke these days.

Ah-ha! I found the one post I wanted to use to start my comments on this thread.

Trust me, if it weren't for the random public which obviously doesn't have enough power to control yet, homosexuality would be a generally accepted topic, much like tennis shoes. You want to talk about society being influenced by media and the like, maybe you should look at how you've been subliminally brainwashed into believing something as unimportant as sexual preference is a reason to inspire hate.

About society's weakening status: I blame lack of education. I blame TV shows. I blame Spongebob. I blame illiteracy. I blame intolerance. I blame teenage angst. I blame lack of parenting skills. I blame the influence by media, such as "the perfect body" seen on many commercials. I blame lack of exercise and health, and mass quantities of junk food and entertainment. I blame failed New Year's Revolutions. I blame Paris Hilton. I blame religion in some cases (such as Westboro Baptists). I blame lack of unity. I blame lack of confidence, capability, and perseverance.

...But most of all, I blame pointing the finger.

We aren't helping anybody by looking for the source of the problem. I try not to watch too much TV, but sometimes I get distracted by it. I try not to use the computer too much, but here I am posting on this forum. I try not to consume so many sugars, so I drink a lot of water. Sometimes.

I do go to the gym five times a week. I stopped watching Nickolodeon when the "good shows" all fell out. I try to look like people on TV, while also trying to accept the fact that I never will look THAT good when I wake up in the morning. I stay away from bands like Panic! At The Disco, one of the current groups with its five minutes in the spotlight. I try not to think about the roof of society crumbling slowly around our heads, and I admit I don't want to do much to try to fix it, because I'm lazy and don't have much motivation for the well-being of others. I try to use manners and I try to eat healthy. I don't want to be old.

When I grow up, my one kid will smoke pot in moderation. He'll keep his grades up and work out regularly, and for the most part he'll stay away from fast food. That's a big hypothetical, but I'm calling it my contribution to society.

What if you have twins? :-P

I agree though. It's society being lazy and putting things off until tomorrow. Tomorrow becomes next week. Next week becomes next month. Next month becomes a New Years resolution... and that becomes never.

I think it's more of a fault of just stupidity in general. Why do people idolize that ho-bag Paris Hilton? Why do people watch reality tv? I say it's because people are too fat, lazy and dumb to go out and live a reality for themselves. Cramping yourself up in a house playing videogames is not living. You might be alive, but youre not living.

LOL!!!! And the fact that they've earned a shred of acceptance in society is a BAD thing? I reckon they should ban shows that preach multi culturalism as well. If it werent for those damned shows, the damn black people and lations and asians wouldnt be accepted in society. Oh god.. anyway, back on topic.

I actually think today's society is far far better than it ever was. People are less simplistic and more aware. Well the intelligent ones are anyway. Today, people arent just pawns for the kings or whatevz. For example, You can CHOSE to go to war if u want. Your kingdom just doesnt conscript you. The only people whniging that today is crap are religious lunitics, because religion just doesnt provide all the answers anymore, and old people.. because, i do concede, the 'small things' dont mater as much.

What is wrong is people dont tend to question what is presented in front of them. Your average person off the street just tends to accept what is presented with a factual looking facade. Why did people worship knights while they tortured other civilizations back in the day? because thats what they were taught and bought up with. Did they dare think.. oh hold on.. why? No they didnt. Same thing with all the hip hop rubbish today. People do it because it's how society tells them to behave. Despite the insistance otherwise, its the overwhelming desire to conform and 'fit in' that's the human problem. The average person is just too stupid.

Back in the olden days, teenage pregnancy and the like WAS around. People were married off without choice at a very young age. Then, the custom was questioned, and it changed. Now, its back again, because thats what the mainstream says. Thinking through set habits isnt reinventing the wheel.. its discovering for yourself why you do what you do.
