This is somewhat similar to other threads here but is devoted entirely to the world music from Final Fantasy games.

I picked FF IX's Crossing those Hills. FFVIII is my all time favorite game, but Crossing those Hills takes the top slot. Not suprising as it had my favorite OST as well.

if you're talking about overworld music nothing beats terra's theme from FFVI.

I'll pick VII's, it has a cinematic feel to it that it impossible to resist.
But, the other VII's overworld theme, VIII's and IX's, are wonderful tunes, too.
I didn't use to like VIII's, until I heard the piano version and I realized that the melody in itself is very beautiful.

the poll is broken, you need to put choices like the snes or nes final fantasies. and why is FFX on the list? it really didnt have a central overworld theme because you could not move around in the overworld (other than from inside the airship control room, which doesnt count)

Well, the song that you hear when you open the map from the airship is considered the overworld one.

Boco, we don't mean music in General, we mean OVERWORLD music ONLY.

I'll deviate from the group and say I really liked FFII's overworld theme, especially the PSX remixed version, and even on top of that the vocal version, "The Promised Land" sung by Risa Ohki was sublime.

Runners up would be FFVIII (especially the orchestral version), and FFVI, Terra's theme rules!

I really enjoyed the Overworld music of VII. It was very calm and beautiful to listen to. I would never get sick of hearing it. I also thought the Overworld music of VI was rather nice, it worked well with the game considering it was Terra's theme and it was just a nice song overall.

I can tell you which one I hate the most, the FFVIII Overworld music. I absolutely can't stand it. I love FFVIII, it's my favourite game but the Overworld music is just plain terrible. I tend to put my own music on when I'm running around the world map lol.

Most of the FF games had lovely Overworld music. Oh! I also love the Overworld music for FFIV. That's another pretty song.

I love all the overworld music in FFVI. The main overworld theme is cool, and I like the Veldt music a lot too.

8 is my fav but the world music gets annoying,I choose 9...I don't know why but I do like 9's the best,guess its just one of thos ethings lol.

Final Fantasy X does not have an official world music. I would say that Final Fantasy VIII's world music, "Blue Fields", is the best world music, especially the orchestrated version, which has a lot of string ensemble.

I definately say 6 without a doubt, the WOB theme was classic and i didn't think that they could top that as far as a world theme, and that showed when you enter WOR... quite frankly it stank... . But once you regain your setzer, (although it is technically the falcon theme) they manage to top it with the best world theme i've ever heard!

The orchestral version of Final Fantasy VIII's "Blue Fields" has not only string ensemble, but also oboes.

I loved FFX and FFX-2. My fav. was FFX-2 though the orchestra at the beginning of this one was really sad and very cool.

I quite liked all the overworld themes, so it was hard to choose just one. In the end, I went with FFVII, mainly because the orchestrated version of it is really nice.
