It depends on how you want to go by it. final fantasy 1 is really hard to follow but if you like a challenge go for it, I wouldn't recommend it though.
2 was fun and relatively easy but it's leveling up system was discontinued so it wouldn't help you in any other final fantasy.
3 is the same as 6 and I thought that was pretty hard, having to train everyone because your party is constantly split up.
5 was one of my favorites, and it was very interesting, it teaches you all of the basics.
7 is pretty difficult and it's not interesting until you get out of midgar, it's the most famous final fantasy game though so I would recommend it to someone who has already played a final fantasy game.
8 was the easiest final fantasy game ever, and you level up the quickest in that game, you could easily beat this game in under 40 hours with all of your characters ultimate weapons summonings and have everyone at level 99.
9 was the most interesting of them all but I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner.
10 was pretty fun, it had the most side-quests of them all but it's sphere grid system is unique to itself and cannot be found in 1-9, so I recommend playing it but you will find the sphere grid system difficult to tackle.

I would say FF7 because the plot keeps you interestedm, and tifa is fun to look at. Also because it is a fairly understandable game compared to some. I also think it gets yuo into the game more with the extensive backgroud that you feel with each character.

I'd say FFVII as well. It just starts you off in the neo-FF generation... and it's a plot that's very interesting and it holds a lot of the basics.

FFIX Almost certainly is a beginners best bet. It explains all the systems very clearly, and lacks any exceptionally complicated ones. It's the second easiest of the FF's but can provide a challenge at times, so your never bored of the difficulty. Also the plot is strong, as well as the characters and it's just generally one of the most enjoyable to play through.

FFIX or X, they are both set to one path if you know what i mean? they are easy enough. VII is harder

Thank you guys! I went to my nearest video game store (EB Games) and the only Final Fantasy they had there was Final Fantasy X. But I must say, I'm in love with the game! I understand the game, and it's perfect! Thank you! The storyline is brilliant and they teach you things. I think it's the best game I ever played. Right now, I am in Bevelle! I got the game Tuesday, and by Sunday I played for more then 24 hours! I was ready to give up on Final Fantasy because I've tried so many times to play it. But I didn't realize I got all the bad ones (Come on, Crystal Chronicles and Tactics (I am not a tactics person anyway), I didn't understand XI and back when the game came out, I got lost at the first temple and then gave up! (BIG MISTAKE) and then got X-2 not knowing it's the sequel to Final Fantasy X. But I just wanted to thank you guys.

FF Legend

i started out on Final Fantasy 7 when i was 8 and loved it i got straight into it and thought that it was great but since then i have played every FF game ther is to be played and i have completed them i currently own them all as well.
i would suggest ff 6 or 7 beibg they are the easiest to understand and have basically a very good storey line and the graphic on them arntt to shabby for the year they were made in so yeah try 6 or 7

I only got FFXI recently but even as an MMO veteran it's kind of hard to get into. Compared to other FF games the pacing is incredibly slow.

Glad you found one that you like, though. Once you fall in love with the series it gets much easier to be patient with the difficult titles

Final Fantasy X for sure

If a person is trying to see if final fantasys storys are as great and invalvng as people say i think X 10 is a good choice it has all the twist and turns that keep people wanting the next one

Hmm well I dont think theres a certain FF for newbies, I think there all equally the same difficulty but if there was to be an easiest one, I would say Final Fantasy X because the battle system allows you to think more in depth and gives you way more time and the Sphere Grid is really really simple to use.

I think ffx-2 is quite easy. The battle system is easy to understand and most of the enemies are too easy. I started with ff8 and I found it too difficult.

I'd say X-2 but it's a sequal to X so they newb wouldn't know what the heck was going on. I'd have to say IX when I was a newb I played 9 first and loved it.

*sighes*Ok...he asked for the SIMPLEST FF out there to play so that he can learn. SO we'll give him...PSX games? nuh uh there is a simpler still (non ) FF out there he can try on emulator. It is called *drum roll* Mystic Quest. It's a (non) FF that will elad you by the hand step by tiny step like a baby chimp. Even allowing you to continue within battles at full life. So if all these other FF's are too complex to follow to sstart with. Go with "Final fantasy" - Mystic Quest. You'll never even break a sweat..or have to think for that matter...
