As previously reported, Fabula Nova Crystallis is indeed planned as the company's second major polymorphic content franchise after the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. In addition to the PlayStation 3-based Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as Final Fantasy Agito XIII for cellphones, more installments of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project could be forthcoming. Wada likened it to Star Wars or Gundam, and said that it would span a decade. While Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation Portable was generally believed the be the final installment of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Wada thinks the Final Fantasy VII franchise will be alive for two decades, meaning ten more years.

Are you ****ing KIDDING ME?! Sorry, maybe if it was just FFXIII I wouldn't be so mad, but the fact that every installment is practically its own series now, and the fact they want to contunue making FFVII spinoffs for the next 10 years REALLY gets my goat.

I think the OP's interpretation is correct. If you look at Star Wars, before the prequel movies came out, they still made billions with spin-off products.

Do you remember how hardcore VII sold when it was first released? and continued to rise more and more by the week, month, year, whatever lol. I cant really say the same for all the new story spin-offs though - I havent really dived into them too much but original > spin-offs.

However, Dawezy, as they said before, FFXIII and the other games part of the Nova Crystallis, are not spin-offs or sequels, they are independent games taking place on the same world. Because if we called them spin-offs we would have to call FFXII a spin-off of FFT which is not, it just taking place in the world of Ivalice, rather in the past or future is clear. The same is for these multiple games, they are part of the same world and other than the usual FF traditions, that is where the common ground will end. Naturally if there are special races unique to the world they will probably be in as well, but after that they are going to completely different games. They could have gone and called them FFXIII, FFXIV, though FFXIII Versus is not really FF since it will be more hack and slash style.

umm... why do people say that final fantasy is not final fantasy just cuz the battle is way different or where it takes place and stuff. if the game is called final fantasy... then its final fantasy. period. thats like saying that final fantasy x is NOT a final fantasy game cuz it had voice overs.... makes no sense...

Well people say stuff like that because there are certain things players expect when playing a new FF titles. Just because it's called Final Fantasy doesnt mean it is, look at Final Fantasy Adventure, and Final Fantasy Legends 1,2,3 on the gameboy. I mean if what you are saying is true, square could make any game, how about a racing game and slap on the Final Fantasy title. That's final fantasy right?

I agree Cain, if this is true, the square i know is dead. I hope they don't mean making more VII titles, god haven't they milked the franchise for all it's worth already? What could they possibly have up their sleeves now? I'd rather see some more innovation like in XII, that's why i said i'd like to see that team take over the franchise. Maybe somebody should just assasinate Nomura. Hahaha no..just keep him in Kingdom Hearts though. You're right tho Palazzo, FF VII fanboys are probably loving this news! The new XIII titles will be independent titles though. They won't take place in the same world, they simply will share the same theme. I know that after the initial 3 there could be more in the works. I just hope Square doesn't continue the trend of rehashing ideas/games to make their money. If so that'd be sad, sacrificing innovation for..well money.

Yeah XII really isn't a sequel to tactics though it does take place way after the game in Ivalice. I like how all those games (tactics, tactics advanced, vagrant story, ff xii) all take place in the same world yet are all original titles.

Oh well..i guess we'll see what happens. FF XII was my new light of hope for Square, but if this is where the series is going to..then my hope will be lost once again.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this awhile back when I worked at Gamestop. I personally hope that they do keep Final Fantasy VII going for 10 more years. However, the cell phone games have got to go. I think that is a horrible idea.

As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, who knows if it will be worth it? It looks pretty insane from the trailer, if that's any sign of things to come. Squeenix is kinda jumpy to make a project that isn't even released last 10 years.

But I think it's time they stop picking one game that was popular apart and move on...I mean, it's the only one to have a movie made after it and like 3 spin-offs. Anyone smell favouritism here? Why wasn't there a game made about, let's say, Shadow's life from FF6, or a sorceress adventure from FF8? (lame ideas I know, but it's the same concept). It seems both Square and die-hard FF7 fans are battling to let go.

I agree..i mean personally i'm sure FF 7 fans love all this but what about all the people who aren't hardcore FF 7 fans?

Honestly, i'm not just saying this because it's my favorite game in the series but if anything FF VI is the most deserving of sequels/spin offs. I mean with all the characters, backstories, maybe even a game about the war of the magi? I mean come on, i think it way has more source material than VII.

VIII could be good too..there are some games in the series that deserve more treatment, i just don't want to see another X-2.

Seems like Square is just focusing on the most popular here

Well... look at the tony hawk games, theres some that had nothing to do with tony hawk and still was called tony hawk. thats my reponse to certain final fantasy games that people say that there not really final fantasy. So if they made a game and called it final fantasy, or mario, or whatever else thats a series, its still considered what the game title is labeled. Who knows, maybe they will make a mario game that has nothing to do with the italian plumber. Am i right?

Well..i'm pretty sure that all the games involved SKATING..which the game was about..Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

And i'm not sure why they would ever make a game called mario when mario isn't somehow in the game or involved with the game. That'd just be them trying to slap a name on something that has nothing to do with mario in order to sell more games.

Obviously developers have the power to name a game whatever they want, but that doesn't make it right. I mean atleast in franchices like Pokemon, which is catered to a younger audience, side games like Pokemon Puzzle League are OK, because atleast it features characters from the game.

In a series where there aren't reoccuring characters (like final fantasy), fans of the series obviously expect certain things to be carried on from game to game. What if Final Fantasy became an underground racing series? Obviously that's not Final Fantasy..

Maybe so they said that because FFVII sold big bucks on them. As what I had understood, maybe not forever would it take.... coz Id be dead by that time. I dont really think it would be that big, since many do not really appreciate it. But its nice, nice coz its new, and because its in PS3.

Hey not trying to attack you here but I do agree with General Leo. Like saying a Final Fantasy is a Final Fantasy just because it is named that way is a absolute mockery IMO especialy if it was a racing game or a immature Grand theft auto(loath this game) or manhunt type game(loath these types of games to) or any non mystical story based game for that matter is senseless. For example Final Fantasys have Deep in depth storys, passionate characters, beautiful musical scores (I think FF and Chrono series has the best music in the world along with classical music and nature sound music)


I have never played this stupid game Grand theft auto but ive seen by brother in law play it to say that a game like this were you can pick up hookers **** them and them kill them which is really evil and malechauvinistic and sexist, now really do you think a game like this deserves the awesome Final Fantasy title I sure hope not it is against my religon "Blasfemous".

The way I see it Square can release 50 ****ing thousand Final Fantasy games in the next 10 years for all I care. As long as there's one or two good ones, **** the rest. I was pretty disapointeed with 9 but then they released 10 which I considered alot better. And now with 12 the're adding new concepts and ideas, I'm extremely impressed. As long as the main games are new and entertaining they can have all the spinoffs they want and it dosnt lessen the quality of there previous and futer games.
