At the party afterwards* many people spoke to me asking "So, you're gonna make a new Smash Bros.?" But I had heard nothing about it, and in fact at that point in time there was no Smash Bros. project in motion anywhere.

Now, I am the designer who gave birth to the Smash Bros. games, but I own no rights to the franchise. So if Nintendo says they will make Smash Bros., they absolutely can. So I saw nothing strange about it whatsoever, but...

There is something that only I can create, and it is desired now. If I'm not going to show my strengths now, when will I? And among all the activities I could undertake, the best way to satisfy the most consumers, including those overseas, would probably be to create Smash Bros.

So what of the magnanimous development staff?
It turned out that Nintendo would build a new team around me in Tokyo.

In other words, we would create a new studio.

So in October of 2005, Nintendo's newest office opened. And it was established solely so that we could create the new Smash Bros.

"We're really doing this..." I thought.
When they go this far for a single title, the only thing you can say is "that's Nintendo."

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is Nintendo.

this. I've been laying off on SSBM because, what's
the use in getting better at that when this is already a
stone-throw away.

Before this preview at E3, I admit I haven't heard
a thing about Smash Brothers coming out for the next
generation Nintendo console. We all sorta assumed that
it was coming out because of how popular SSBM was
and because there were so many more characters to add.

Seriously though, Smash Bros. is like Mario Party. Easy spin off to make that seems to be popular co-op play. If you didn;t think there was going ot be another, let me know, so I can smack you with a wet trout.

After seeing that trailer I so want that game now. But I hope they don't do like they did in SSBM for some of the character unlocks, I think there were other ways, but for Mewtwo you had to play VS. for about 12 hours.

Well I can say is that Nintendo still has my heart. After looking at the preview all I can say is that I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if those are the only newcomers for this SSB:Brawl? I'm thinking it will be, plus the 26 characters from Melee.

One thing that caught my eye and I think I'm going to love is the huge moves that Mario, Link, and Kirby all did. Some type of finisher or something.

I'm glad that Sakurai is doing it again to, especially after reading the whole article.

So I think I've decided that the Wii is going to be the next gen console I buy. And it's mostly based on this game.

A new Super Smash Brothers has been known to have coming for a while. Reading over that article, it's funny how Nintendo just threw it out there with Sakurai knowing, if not a bit presumptuous. It's a good thing Sakurai got in on this though, and that Nintendo puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to games; we're guaranteed a good game because of both. This game may very well be responsible for many, many, many of the Wii's adopters.

I actually want to get the Wii just for this game. And actually, it's not 12 hours.. it's a certain number of matches, so what I did, was put 1 stock, handicap really high, so I can do a one hit kill. =P

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was either/or. What I did to unlock Mewtwo was to leave the game on for extended periods of time while I wasn't playing, too.

Very cool news. ...especially the trailor! (No offense Cesar, but visual aide for video games and movies is always a plus with me.) When Meta Knight showed up, I was like "damn straight!" I also think Solid Snake and Wario should be awesome. That new Samus outfit is pretty cool, too. However, I was disapointed at not seeing any Star Fox characters at all. Fox has been unanimously agreed to be the best character in Smash Bros. of all time, after all (Just kidding ) Seriously though, I hope that isn't all the new characters they're planning on introducing, as I really want to see Krystal in this one (and Wolf O'Donnell, too. Although one or the other would be fine.) Anyhoo...

Miyamoto and Sakurai, who were there to make the announcement, also confirmed that the game would have full compatibility with the GameCube controller. Sakurai stated that the reason was because he did not want to "alienate those familiar with the pad." It was said by IGN that it will not use the Wii's motion sensing features because "We found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game," said Sakurai. Although that's from Wikipedia, and not from anything official, official... Still. I think I'd rather use a GC controller, too. I still don't know how I feel about the Wii controller. Hopefully the option will be available in a bunch of other games, too. Either that, or I'll come to get used to the new weird controller... Though I suppose it'll need batteries... it better come with rechargeable ones!

I also read on Wikipedia that other 3rd party companies are in talks with Nintendo about adding their characters to the game (or vice versa. Although allegedly the creator of Solid Snake had begged that they put Snake in Melee, but it was too late in development at the time.) Snake being in the game... that's kinda cool, but at the same time kinda weird. Aside from not being a Nintendo character... how's he going to fight in the game? I guess like Fox, Falcon and Samus, eh? He almost seems too mature for this game, though... *shrug*

Back to the 3rd party thing: maybe this means that characters like Mega Man and Sonic have a shot of being in it this time. That would kick ass. I would so play as Tails. (My friends were just talking about this; about Sonic characters being in Smash. They were like "who would play as Tails?" Then they paused, and said "...Tom would." and I grinned mischievously at them.)

Anyhoo... can't wait!

Taco, I agree with you about Snake seeming mature for this
game haha. I was pretty surprised when Snake's part came up
in the trailer. Also since he was from a 3rd party developer.
With snake in SSB:B think of the endless possibilites of new
characters under Konami, Capcom, Sega... @_@

It makes me happy too that they are thinking about having SSB:B
supporting the regular Game Cube controller. When I heard that,
I breathed a sigh of releif, because that would skip a whole nother
learning process. Once I get it.... gonna pwn ppl right away!

This is a list of EXTRA characters never before in a SSB game, dude.

There's already a solidified cast from every other SSB game, Link is included.

I see no reason for the SSBM characters NOT to return especially mainstays like Yoshi or Captain Falcon. Like the E3 trailer shows, it's just a matter of improved Textures. Besides if Link is based on TP, just imagine Ganondorf or Zelda . I'd love to see Young Link rendered with Celshading though, that would be neat!

Oh and Sean, Inafune (Megaman's creator) has recently said while nothing is currently planned, he finds Megaman to have a better chance on Wii than the PS3. That, and he's pretty open to crossovers, he even said when Namco x Capcom was in development (which he supervised and got promoted for), that Company collaborations like [NxC] are vital to keeping the gaming industry fresh.

So I'm sure he'll budge. Nintendo and Capcom are on very good terms too.
