Of course, you should be. Fantasy cyberpunk is overdone. Final Fantasy is overdone. There really is no reason to have another cliche jrpg to be excited over. What kind of angsty character will it feature this time? If only SE would announce DQ9 for the Wii; I could care less about the next Final Fantasy.

It seems like even the major directors are "avoiding" Final Fantasy XIII. How odd. Ever since Final Fantasy XII was put on hold, it feels like the major Final Fantasy games have been put out of the spotlight. It doesn't help that they have two other games with "Final Fantasy" and "XIII" on their lineup.

Now it's Fabula Nova Crystallis--"the new tale of the crystal" in Latin. They're big on the Latin today. Whoa, wait, another new game? Another PS3 game?! Final Fantasy Versus XIII? They're emphasizing that in Latin, versus means "to change direction." This is a Tetsuya Nomura game, and he's taking the stage now.

2:17 Nomura is providing more details. The CG movie we just saw, featuring a spiky-haired character (natch) squaring off against machine gun-wielding soldiers, was created by the Advent Children team, but the game itself will be made by the Kingdom Hearts team, and will feature "extreme action elements." He says "bonding" will be the primary theme of the game.

God, I hate Nomura.

This thread will be for discussion of all things that come from E3. We already have S's great coverage and the basic gist of what was presented at their press conference (funny, because I figured this would be tomorrow, not today)

As for the pics, yeah, I'm "meh" on the whole thing too. It's just more generic cyber punk designs done by Nomura with useless belts and zippers. The main chick looks like a cross between Ashe from FFXII and Yuna from FFX-2.

I agree S, I agree, I just don't like Nomura.

I wasn't aware Square-Enix's conference was today, either. Nintendo's conference will not be until tomorrow. However, Sony's is today, I think.

I'm happy we have similar opinions on it, Cain. It's good to know that even die-hard Square-Enix fans can feel the same way. Though, you're more of an Enix guy in a lot of ways, right? No doubt Mr. Dragoon is as well. =P

I can't comment on Dragon Quest nor Crystal Chronicles. I am guessing and hoping Crystal Chronicles for Wii will have a more accessible setup than with the GameCube, though. GBA requisites and lack of online play makes me sad. Oh, yeah, it's coming out for the DS too, but that was announced a while ago.

It's just not the Final Fantasy I knew anymore. Zelda, Mario, Dragon Quest. I can play the latest installments and KNOW I'm playing them. *This* just seems like a whole new series. Possibly worth checking out sure as a gamer, yeah it looks pretty, but I just don't see it as "The latest Final Fantasy". I see it as "the newest Square-Enix game done by Nomura and company".

Give me Mistwalker stuff please.

I know what you mean though. Final Fantasy XIII was just announced and already, right along with it, we have two other games under the exact same name. Unless there are plans to incorporate them within the same universe then it seems like they're just using the name to advertise their newest creations.

Back when I got into Final Fantasy, there was only one game per universe. =P FFXII is my last hope. =(

I finally understand the naming scheme. I was wondering what the Ring of Fates was since GameSpot's S-E conference blog didn't say too clearly (or maybe I was skimming too quickly).

Comparing Mario and Zelda with Final Fantasy? Mario and Zelda have the same characters and while they are allowed a degree of difference, they really cannot change too much or it is just not the same game. Final Fantasy is not restricted by those chains of repeation. They are different characters and stories each time, it is a constant for FF to be different each time. If you are knocking FF down for being different than the past games then you are missing the point. It may seem like the same thing that has been done before, but it is pretty definite that it is different from a previous FF game. And that is often so enjoyable about them. It is not the same thing over and over again. Because after 12 iterations of the same thing over and over again, I really do not care how good you can make things. I would get tired of it. I will see with DQ, because I loved DQVIII, but if it is the same thing again for DGIX, I don't know, it will have been really great to make me enjoy playing the same thing again. And the same is with Zelda, Wind Waker I am not a fan of, probably a good game, but I need to play it, though it does not endear me to it.

It is only one trailer and a few pictures and you are already complaining that it is going to be bad? I may not like what Wind Waker is, but I do not call it bad game, simply because I have not played, and I even admit it is probably good, but it is not going to be on my list of games to play first when I get a Gamecube. Hold your critism until you actually know more about the game, I mean really.

Honestly... it's mind blowing and I am definitely hyped up for this. To me, every new Final Fantasy is like a new game. Well, it is, but I can never compare it with the previous Final Fantasies. Each Final Fantasy have their own pros and cons and I like just about every one of them and I enjoyed most of them. So nyaaah!
