I like guitar
I really like guitar. For those of you who don't know, I play for about 6-7 hours per day - so I really do like playing guitar. Thats not the point of this thread though.
What models/brands/whatever of guitar do you particularly like? Perhaps you're a die-hard fan of the Gypsy-Jazz Selmer classical guitars. Maybe you prefer a 7-string baritone PRS guitar that has four broken strings ("It just brings out my soul, man!"). Perhaps you prefer -insert guitar here-. Maybe it's even a guitar of your own design. So, tell everyone! As I said before, I really like guitars. So much so, I've decided to get my own custom made guitar. The cost? About $6000AUD, taking a year to build with a $2000 up-front deposit. The specs? I'm getting Schecter to make it, since I really like their C series shape (http://www.schecterguitars.com/spec.asp?id=11). Sure, it may not look special, but for some odd reason, they just feel great. Much like the neck of my Jackson Kelly, but just different. Floyd rose trem, Seymour Duncan Invader pick ups, abalone binding on the top & back of the guitar, creme binding on the neck, abalone binding on the headstock (which is black and the same shape as the C-1 in that link), mother of pearl dot inlays (regular configuration), set-neck, 25.5" scale, 24 x-jumbo frets, neck & body painted alpine white, Locking Sperzel tuners and all the hardware is black. I can't wait for it to be done. But that wouldn't be my favourite guitar - it would be the guitar I'd use as my main for many, many years. My ultimate guitar would be..........Actually, I don't have one. I just have a long list of guitars that I want (and would use) that are all different.. So, I guess I'll post that instead. Gibson Les Paul Custom (white, no pick guitar, EMG 81 active pickups) Gibson ES-335 (for jazzy stuff) Fender Telecaster (USA made one...I want something pretty for Daddy) ESP EX Custom (why custom? I just can't get my head around the stock models..Dunno why, so I might as well get them to make one I like. I like the shape, just not the graphics that come with them. This would be a treasured piece since ESP Custom shop guitars cost a pint of Chez's blood) Schecter S-1 (w/ Seymour Duncan invaders) Schecter C-1 Custom (the same as I stated above) Dean Razorback tribute (Or whatever it's called...I think Dante has an idea on what this one is. Think "holy ****ing awesome paintjob") This is one of the rare signature guitars I'd actually buy. Jackson KE-3 Kelly (w/ Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge, JB in the neck) Nik Huber Dolphin Standard (omfg detail......) ESP Eclipse-II VB And thats about it.

I'm a bassist and I have a couple of classics which I finger (a Gibson Ripper and a Fender Precision) I'm going to get myself a newer one soon though (my newest bass is the Fender which is from 81)
I am looking for something with a 35" scale, but with 4 strings (I'm not a big fan of 5 stringers) and so far the Spector Euro 435LX is looking pretty damn good. Spector basses plays like a dream and the European ones are more affordable than the US ones, so they are definitely worth every penny and more so. http://spectorbass.com/NewFiles/euro.html#euro435 |

Those are some pretty active pick ups there - 18v's used for those. Any reason why you don't like 5-string basses? I've never played bass myself (I mean, I've written for it, but not really paid much attention to the details), so I've never understood or known the rationale?

I prfer playing with my instruments tuned down to B-D. Some people might think that getting a 5-bass would be easier, cause then I'd have B-G rather than B-D, but the neck on those is too broad for my liking.

^ You'd get used to a bass in time... i know thier hard at first.
Favourite eh? Hard to say... i own a Yamaha 121. Cheap and cheerful but its a fantastic guitar to play. I do enjoy Gibsons... i know, EVERYONE loves gibson, but their not half bad. The flying V is probably my fave. |
