Bert Monroy released his latest Photoshop painting this week after 11 months of work with an estimated 2,000 hours. The attention to detail is amazing in this 10 foot wide poster.

the photoshop drawing among all the photos... only
to realize those "photos" were what I was looking for...

The man is talented, that's for sure. After spending 2000 hours on it though, I hope he can get some decent money for it. A feeling of accomplishment is pretty cheap for 2000 hours.

Not in my eyes. You have to use Photoshop regularly to really appreciate something like this. 15,000 layers? 250,000 alpha channels? this digital painting is beyond imagination.

What is scary is if you calculate how much effort was put into those hours. The expert Photoshop users can create amazing artwork that surpasses anything in any of your sigs here in mere minutes.. maybe even less. I've watched one of them on the TV about 2 years ago I think and watching him do stuff simply amazed me. There is so much you can do with that program and those who are talented at it can create freakishly impressive works with it.

So with that in mind, the fact that it took this guy 2000 hours? You KNOW its insanely complicated.

One thing I am wondering is why he didn't use a 3D program to make some of that stuff. I suppose his goal was to only use Photoshop and Illustrator.. because he could've cut a huge chunk of time out if he used a 3D program to generate the layout, etc... then used Photoshop to detail it out. Of course, that is cheating in a way and does not lessen the quality of this work by any means. He definately made a wonderful image... I just wonder if it was really 'efficient'.

Geez, this guy really is talented. But, I don't really like it. :\ I think it's quite pointless spending so much time and effort into something like that, when you can just as easilly take a photo just like that, have it enlarged and THEN use Photoshop to enhance the quality. :\ It's a so much easier way of making something that will look just as good.

The point isn't that you can just take a photo and enhance it.

The point is that he did it without much besides photoshop and illustrator.

It's an amazing piece of artwork. I don't really feel it should NEED to be efficient or worth it to any of us.

The art is that we didn't even know it was art to begin with.

WOW! I'm going to hav to show one of my photoshop fanatic friends this! She'll probably go gaga at the site of it. I'm not even sure a camera could capture that much detail.
