FFII: Unknown?

Wow, how come there isn't anything on this game?

All right, all right, I must admit I haven't fully beaten the game, but I think it should at least have a general thread.

First of all, has anyone played this game? It's weird how nobody brings it up...And am I the only one who really liked the level-up system? It just made sense.

C'mon, anyone?

I haven't noticed if any other threads for Final Fantasy II, but it is talked about often within other threads.

I believe FF:II was the first time Chocobos and the infamous character "Cid" were introduced, which was pretty amazing for obvious reasons. I enjoyed leveling the stats of a player for merely using spells or physical attacks, whereas it become somewhat more difficult to level via the progression of the various future Final Fantasy titles, which I liked more. I'm a fan most of all, of Final Fantasy VII's Materia system -- but overall I like leveling my characters through experience points, because I keep an eye on how they are doing better... for me anyways.

The English-release in 2003 definitely had some nice updates from the original. I didn't REALLY get into Final Fantasy however when I was younger until Final Fantasy III -- nonetheless I started with FF:I.

Cool

actually, they mentioned cid in the first one but i guess that doesn't really count. i've played final fantasy 2 and i beat it, that is one of the hardest games in final fantasy history (especially when you fight the emporer the second time).

FFII is freakin great - so many characters get killed off lol. pretty ambitious for a NES RPG. the leveling up is really fun i think - it goes faster than the standard system, and it's... well different from the standard system, which makes it unique and fun.

i just started playing it on the NES - i beat the DoS version, but i'm up for a serious challenge now!

just a quick diversion: anyone think that the ultima spell was a huge disappointment?? it's like this major plot device that has you going to the top of the tower and retrieving the ancient scroll, and it's supposedly the most powerful spell the world has ever known... and it kind of sucks?

EDIT: also, if you really like final fantasy II check out my cover of the town music - no one's responded to the thread yet hehehe A treat for you Old Skoolers... My FFII Town cover!

Cool

Yeah, i remember that time when the spell was only at level 1 and it only did up to 44 hp damage. My biggest dissapointment was when i went to flynn castle, i tried showing the scroll to he princess, but i accedentlly trashed it when i learned that i no longer had the scroll, i was like nooooooooooooooo!

worst experince ever, i went through that whole tower just to accidently trash it.

Actually I think the Cloud of Darkness from FF III is WAY harder then the Emperor from Hell in FFII. I've beaten both several times, and considering my strategy III beats II hands down. Of course I used the level up spells and weapons trick to max out all my spells, and used Osmose to get my MP up to 999.

Still tho strategy wise, even if you're at Level 80+ in FF III and have all Dragoons, Cloud of Darkness is still a bitch to fight. A lot worse then Hyn.

true, I think ff2 was the second best final fantasy and I think that ff3j is by far the best. I am level 92 with all chars in ff3j and dark cloud is still fuzzin hard. If you use the blood sword in ff2 you will kick ace on the emporer.
