I've never actually heard any of their songs ('cept for little clips) and I was wondering if they were worth listening to. They made an appearance at the Juno's if I'm not mistaken. They've also just come out with a new album. So, are they any good? Any recommended songs to hear? ![]() | ||||||||

1,536 | My grandad bought me some albums of theirs once in an attempt to be down with the kids, if you see what I mean. Most of it is that boring, pointless and nonsensical indie shit, apart from one song about Yoshimi and the robots. Their new album, from what i've heard, sounds like they've improved a little and started actually playing some intruments. It's probably worth a look, but i'm not a fan of Clouds Taste Metallic or Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell, the two albums I have. Yoshimi forever. Goodnight.

first of all Ego Tripping was a remix EP, not an album second of all - what are you talking about 'actually playing some instruments'??? you're not one of those "synth aren't real instruments man!!" jerk offs are you? or do you not think dissonance and diminishment is music not worth while? either way, you're wrong. also, steven derose is one of the greatest drummers to ever play - his beats are unpredictable, bombastic, and just plain ****ing amazing, especially soft bulletin and on. just listen to "are you a hypnotist" from yoshimi - it's one of the greatest drum arrangements i've ever heard. third of all - Yoshimi is amazing from beginning to end - the title track is the only 'indie bullshit' on the whole record - the endless drilling of that chorus at the end >.< Clouds is one of the greatest experimental rock albums to ever be released. you're going to deny kim's watermelon gun??? come on man. and if anything the new album is a step backwards. there are moments of sheer brilliance jammed in between what are basically disco songs. the 70's happened, bfd. i have every single flaming lips release - i suggest that you stay away from the early stuff at first (as it might scare you off) - although clouds taste metallic and a priest driven ambulance are two ****ing classic albums. start with the soft bulletin (the album right before yoshimi) - songs like "the gash" and "race for the prize" will win your heart instantly SB - i PROMISE you, there is no way to not fall in love with those two songs - and eventually the whole of The Flamming Lips. The End.

| | A little harsh, aren't we PBF7? ![]() Yeah... I listened to those songs you were talkin' 'bout... They're... alright, I guess. Nothing special. Real mellow, which I enjoyed but nothing too out of the ordinary. I'd give 'em a 4.5/10. Based on those 2 songs alone... Which really isn't fair... | ||||||||

The Gash nothing out of the ordinary? Well i suppose i don't know enough about your musical palate... but i lose it when wayne cries "will the fight, for our sanity, be the fight of our lives..." it should also be noted that their live show was one of the greatest concert experiences of my life. They pulled random people waiting in line before the show, suited them up in animal costumes, gave them flashlights, and had them dance on either side of the stage while they played. In the middle of the show wayne (in his white john lennon suit) poured fake blood all over his head and sang happy birthday to any who's birthday it might have been in the audience. wayne also had giant fist gloves that he waved back and forth, a giant balloon that he could walk on top of the audience in , and a robot that he enjoyed an on stage moment with during the beautiful part of robot sympathy. and there was a massive strobe and slow motion video of big breasted women running while they played the gash. haha, it was definitely a night to remember. ok, last try - if soft bulletin didn't wet your whistle, try "are you a hypnotist" and "do you realize" from yoshimi battles the pink robots. while listening to them look at these concert photos below and say no. if you are able to say no, then the flaming lips are not for you.

| | Holy CRAP... (Wow, look at that. I totally wanted to type shit, but went for crap instead.... I am growing up! ...Okay, maybe not!) That looks like a really fun concert. I think the problem we are having here is that Ben is just not a fan of the genre. PBF7, Ben is into metal and other bad musics. Granted he likes The Aquabats, otehr than that his taste is silly. Now. I've heard these guys, and for their genre, they are AMAZING. That is the point PBF7 is trying to make. They are a really good band.

these two songs from clouds taste metallic: Kim's Watermelon Gun and Psychiatric Explorations of the Fetus with Needles they'll be easy to find, and i assure you they rock the **** out. not like metal - but as far as early-mid 90's hardcore experimental indie rock is concerned it's ****ing hard. just a thought.

1,536 | You're all about to witness a very rare thing indeed...PB7, i'm about to eat my own hat, to show how I have been humbled by the new Flaming Lips' latest song. It's on the radio right now. With all your power...it's fantastic! I've been sitting and finding new methods of dancing whilst sitting in my chair! Perhaps I was too quick to judge; their new stuff may just reform me and change my opinion. And that in itself is a feat; i'm the most opinionated person on Earth. I never change my mind about anything. Until now. I am going to buy their new album.
