Even so, there are some bands that play their own instruments, and then there are rap-rock (note the word "rock") bands as well, but the majority of what I've heard revolves around a repetitive background melody, possibly taken from another artist's song; for example, a single I heard by Lil John used the guitars from Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne, but simplified it a lot.

I guess I can't really say I've heard every rap artist in the world, but I've heard a lot in my time, and what I said is what I've found to be true; there is generally more melody involved in rock than there is in rap. Nice getting all getting offended about it, though

I didn't really pay much attention to what anyone else said up to this point...

Correct. By melody I thought you ment the specific chords and instrumentals. Rap songs often have big melodic choruses these days.

And I didn't get offended, I'm not a rapper. If I were I may be, but I'm not. I'm simply defending Rap music because it's getting biased opinions on this thread because of "Lack of Skill".. and .."it sounds like crap"... well that's their opinion.

I think rock sounds like 50 pounds of ass in a 10 pound bag, but I don't think that means Rock requires no skill.

#500 baby! LOL

I choose rock. Its just the style of music I like the most. I grew up on metal, then once I grew up my taste turned to punk. I never really cared that much for rap music. I never hated it, but ever really enjoyed it. I own a Jay-Z album, 2 Ice cubes, and the Eminem catalog, but that's it. My rock CD collection numbers over 500. So naturally, I like the rock.

Also, why does almost very music thread turn into a bitch-fest in less than a day?

Because retards like to start on the "rap/rock requires no skill, it's not music, it's shit, pure shit!"

Which is just their opinion. There's different genres of music because music effects people differently and is enjoyed differently. I myself don't find Rock to be a skilless talent or even find it horrible music unlike the obvious Rap-bashers have, but I do not enjoy rock -- it doesn't effect me emotionally or motivates me in a way unlike Hip-hop.

And it's too easy for someone to be like "Ya know, I'm sure Hip-hop and Rap requires knowledge, skill and determination like most music -- but I'm just not into it"

Instead, you get immaturity like "RAP IS SKILLESS, GANG PROPOGANDA AND THE N*GGER MUSIC."

It all takes talent whether you like it or not.

If it didn't, the music industry would be a hell of a lot bigger than it is. Not everyone can just snap their fingers and become a vocalist/drummer/guitarist/rapper that day. Some are born gifted, but most practice for years. Hell, some people work their whole lives to gain these abilities, and still fail.

Like I said, I am not a big fan of rap music, but, I will acknowledge that it does take a lot of talent, hard work, and perseverance to make it. Go listen to Eminem or Jay-Z and tell me that's just babbling.

Yeah, I enjoy Tupac a lot. He spawned so much of the hip-hop culture... but it has bee greatly distorted. Eminem, and Fifty and Dre attempt to recontruct it, but I don't think it will ever be the same. Rap lost a talented man when Tupac died.

Oh that's good dude, thinking I'm the usual biased rap-basher you see. Biased? Not really. Rap-basher, totally. I've actually taken a liking to a few songs in the past, all my friends have, but still yet rap or hip hop factually takes NO SKILL. I never said it was trash even though a lot of these rappers and such do promote trash.

Anyway, let's see here...

1. They can't sing, whether it's a style that requires it or not.
2. Even if they did make some shit up from the gheto and what not, there hasn't been MANY "artist" of this genre that I can see that has truly put any emotion into their lyrics or music. Hell by the time rap got popular (which didn't take long due to MTV and a vast society of idiots), every music industry company grabbed all they could to do what...SELL THEIR ALBUMS AND THEN WHAT...Oh yeah...GET MONEY.
3. All rap and hip hop has done is make a new type of idiotic stereotype and promote a bunch of bullshit, excluding the few good rappers who actually had something to say other than acting like horny ****s.
4. Did I mention it takes no skill? They walk around on stage, grab their nuts, and "talk" with a melody most of them didn't even come up by themselves. Old or new.

My parents knows it takes no skill, my sisters and brother-in-law know it takes no skill (and they all listen to it), everyone of my friends knows it doesn't take any skill, my next door neighbor knows it doesn't take any skill. I could probably put up a petition to and get thousands of replies (who like and dislike the genre) that it takes no skill.

Plus how could you call this shit immature? I've never said it was bad music, I never said it was ****** music, I never said it focus'd on gang propaganda (thought some actually does, you agreed on that earlier yourself), so again...how is it immature to tell the fact that this entire genre TAKES NO SKILL? Sure, some of them can write their lyrics, maybe make up their own beats, but how hard is that? You can take any drum machine, put up some random lyrics, and make music out of it.

Your argueing that I'm a biased dumbass, I'm argueing that rap has and takes no skill, (not to mention you said proved that for me a second ago), so where is the relevance? Rap IS propaganda in a sense for the music industry throwing all those guys out and gettion MILLIONS every month. Hell when Vanilla Ice joined it you knew rap went bad. And for your enjoyment I have a song from "Adam and Andrew" guys who did the "Emo Song" and also wrote a song called "Rap sucks", don't take it seriously but it can explain a lot. Comedy is truth told sarcastically.

Factually? I don't see any facts from your posts that stats Rap has no skill. It's your opinion Rap has no skill because you obviously think any 14 year old can grab some recording software, make some rhymes and a beat, then sell it and never have to work again in his life.

The reason I say this, is because every reason you give me that Rap is shit music, could easily be said about Rock music. Can I go buy a drumset and guitar and spend 4 hours making lyrics up about how I want to slit my wrists, monsters, being lonely, self-pity, and pain? That's all I hear in Rock music... but I haven't heard all Rock music have I? Much like you haven't heard all Rap music but you draw a conclusion based on comparison anyways.

If all this is true, then yeah... Rock and Rap require no skill. You must be right.

----------

1. They can't sing, whether it's a style that requires it or not.
I'm not fond of rock singers. So can they not sing either?
2. Even if they did make some shit up from the gheto and what not, there hasn't been MANY "artist" of this genre that I can see that has truly put any emotion into their lyrics or music. Hell by the time rap got popular (which didn't take long due to MTV and a vast society of idiots), every music industry company grabbed all they could to do what...SELL THEIR ALBUMS
AND THEN WHAT...Oh yeah...GET MONEY.
99% of Hip-hop is based on emotional lyrics. Rap music inspires some to push on through a struggle... like a phoenix rising if you will. I don't know what rap music you've been listening to lately.
3. All rap and hip hop has done is make a new type of idiotic stereotype and promote a bunch of bullshit, excluding the few good rappers who actually had something to say other than acting like horny ****s.
So all rock has done is breed a generation of heroin-addicts who scream loud and get high all day, while crying.
4. Did I mention it takes no skill? They walk around on stage, grab their nuts, and "talk" with a melody most of them didn't even come up by themselves. Old or new.
So rock stars bang around on drums, while a lead emo-guitarist screams to the point beyond recognition, usually wearing some prissy ***** girly outfit..while playing a melody that probably conjured up while they were intoxicated.
Sterotyping is fun huh?

I avoid Rap like the plague.
Nuff' said. If I wanted to hear about the ghetto, I'd move there. However, I don't so I won't be told about something that really doesn't matter a whole lot.

ROCK ROCK ROCK! I CANNOT STAND RAP MUSIC!

For my own personal taste, music must come from real instruments and songs must be sung with emotion. With guitars maintaining the pace and flow of a song, with strong drum and bass backgrounds. Throw in a keyboard maybe, or something else. Rock is also a much more varied genre. Theres so many different rock bands, and a few similar ones, but the majority are unique. I feel rap is too single-tone, with a continuous beat and keyboard/computerised sound effects. The only rap song i can safely say I like is Goldie Lookin' Chain's "Your Missus is a Nutter" because of it's funny lyrics.

****ing idiots

rock musicians have been writing the same songs since the 60's - and i'd love to see one of you little punks who say rap requires no skill to battle rap with an underground MC in the inner city, just so i could see you wet your pants and cry in front of an audience laughing their asses off at you.

i voted for rock though, cause i'm a rocker, it's what i do. i love a lot of rap though - especially wu-tang and all the solo shit from them. eminem is good, but his later shit is too self absorbed for my tastes - **** kanye, i don't even really like jay z - Nas is alright (sometimes), redman is hilarious, tribe called quest is my favorite of the old skoolers.
