I chose MGS3: Snake Eater. It is a lot more tactical and interesting to play. I like the cure option in the menu. Its a clever way in healing yourself. Although it was fun and enjoyable I prefered the environment in MGS2.
Btw you forgot to add Metal Gear Acid.

I gave my voice to MGS 1. I'm old school player like Loco. I like more older games than new. I'm not good at it but I gave my vote to it.

I chose Metal Gear Solid 1.

Sure, its not shiny and pretty, but it was freaking amazing when it was new. I remember staying up for like 16 hours straight playing that game the first time around. I was just hooked. The gameplay, the voiceovers, the graphics, everything.

Psycho Mantis? C'mon now. Baddie of the year right there.

God yeah! I almost forgot Psycho Mantis! I remember I was soo stuck when battling him! It was a really clever way to defeat him. I hated the part though when Ocelot was torturing you. I did it and indeed saved Meryl. It was good for its time but there was no hang option! I was put off, I never got far into it when it came out but after going through it all I felt it was lacking in certain elements.

Haven't played 3 but I have played it's two predecessors. I would definitely vote for MGS2 just because they so many weird hidden things. Example would be the little toy doll of Raven lying on the ground. Or one of my favorites, all the random bikini model posters distributed throughout the levels. Man, I have so many photos saved on my memory card. Awesome it was!

By the way, has anybody ever gotten that strange videoclip near the end of some Japanese woman who's being interviewed (the sound is missing however). Obviously another irrelevant fun thing they added for the hell of it.

Alone these things were the deciding factor in placing 2 above the original. I mean from the gameplay, they were pretty similar, not necessarily a bad thing though.

I'd have to say that Metal Gear Sold Twin Snakes is my favorite. It's just the first one but with better graphics which is wondrful. I've beaten all the MGS series. But that one is still my fave. I've beaten MGS2 on European Extreme which makes you want to bash your skull into the wall, but still I did it. So I'm proud of that. Overall I like them all, but still can't go wrong with the original...or remake.

Well considering I've never played the 2nd and 3rd release, nor have even seen them outside of magazines I'd have to vote for the first one. It was really awesome and a great game, I enjoyed it.

Dunno, I'm sure the other games improved some things or added some cool stuff, but since I didn't play them I can't exactly vote for them.

My choice is more then likely MGS2, I think the voice cast was great and the gameplay wasnt over complicated like MGS3's. Playing MGS3, I felt as if I had a major burden on my back. I always had to do this or that, wasnt much freedom like I thought there would be. MGS, well, got boring very fast.

okay alot of you guys are comparing each game to modern technology. What you have to do in order to pick the best one is to judge it based on what was out at the time. In other words look at MGS and think, "Was that innovative for the time?" and then proceed through the series.

anyways I voted for Metal Gear Solid the original cuz I thought it had the best story of all three and the game was just awesome and severely innovative in itself...you know you have a good game when you go back to it today (8 years later) and still enjoy it.

lol, i loved that Katana. It was one of my favourite weapons in MGS2. I used to dive about and slice all the Guards up and show them who is best. lol.
