Okay, so sometimes for the 'Hän' portion, you add an 'e' and other times you double the letter? Am I understanding this correctly?

If so, then is there a way to know when to do which, or do you just have to memorise it?

Hey, Now I know how to tell how hän word is working.
I show to you:

he sit ~ hän istuu
he sleep ~ hän nukkuu
he talk ~ hän puhuu
he stands ~hän seisoo
he walk ~ hän kävelee
he run ~ hän juoksee

As you see, when you he/hän you double last letter after you have remove syllable.

I tell now how the they/he works. If word have somewhere letter Ä or Ö, it's end is VÄT. Otherwise its end is VAT.

But I this verbs that I have teach you, is in preesens form. I don't teach you imperfect forms after you learn this...

Bye-bye,see you tomorrow. I go now shower and then sleep. Bye-bye. I answer questions tomorrow.

I want sleep. ~ Minä haluan nukkua.

want ~ haluta
sleep ~ nukkua

Alright todays lesson is here:

You all knows that there is "helper" verbs like want, can and could. I think that you see what I wrote my last post:

I want sleep. ~ Minä haluan nukkua.

want ~ haluta
sleep ~ nukkua

As I say 'want' is "helper" verb so we conjugate it, not verb sleep. Sleep is its normal form. "Helper" verbs gonjugate just like other verbs but after "helper" verb, actual verb comes its normal form.

I can sleep. ~ Minä osaan nukkua.

can ~ osata

I could sleep. ~ Minä voisin nukkua.

could ~ voida

Triple post

The latter numbers are really long and I don't see much of a pattern to them. x_X Good to know though.

For your next lesson, how about a few common sentences that everyone should know? And then describing why the are the way they are perhaps.

Every lesson have post different day and they are different things. Numbers in every language are tought first so I teach now thems. Now you know about how first 20 numbers are in Finnish. I'm not good teacher so I don't know what sentences we need almost every day life. I gave you couple when we start this thread.

EDIT:// I wonder where the Dragoon Joe is? He wanted to learn Finnish but I haven't seen in this thread. Maybe he just think that he wants learn Finnish but gave up when he doesn't under stand anything. I also edit first post while ago so you might want to check it up.

I do have one question going back to verbs.

In a sentence such as "I am sitting", how would you conjugate the second verb, in this case 'sitting'?

Do you keep it normal or do you conjugate it according to the 'I' in this case?

Awesome topic idea!

It's worth mentioning, since this is an FF forum, that Nobuo Uematsu made a special arranged album of FFV with a Finnish band called Dear Friends. Butz's theme, Home Sweet Home is BEAUTIFULLY sung in Finnish. It's one of my FAVORITES as far as FF-related music goes.

I love the Finnish language (not quite as much as Japanese, but I think it's a gorgeous language). It is after all the language Tolkien based the Elven language on (IE a specific dialect from a very remote region)

I know that Elven language is made from Finnish language. But did you know that Tolkien get ideas from Finlands national epos "Kalevala". Kalevala is collection of old Finnish poems and legends.

We don't gonjugate verb 'sitting' and and persons forms. Verb 'be' gets gonjugated.

Ex.

I am sitting ~ minä olen istumassa
You are sitting ~ sinä olet istumassa
He/she is sitting ~ hän on istumassa
We are sitting ~ me olemme istumassa
You are sitting ~ te olette istumassa
They are sitting ~he ovat istumassa

As you see verb 'be' is gonjugated, not sitting. Like in English...

This is how you get 'sit/istua' and other verbs ending when the verb 'be' is before main verb.

sit/istua --> istu --> istumassa
eat/syödä --> syö --> syömässä

When verb has letter Ä or Ö ending is 'mässä'. If verb doesn't have Ä or Ö it's ending is 'massa'.

If you need other info just ask...
