Need Help vs Dark Elf!

Uhm yea, well I was starting FFIV again and I am stuck!

FOr some reason I cannot beat the dark elf. Well, I know I'm
technically not supposed to beat him alone with the help of
edward, but I keep dying before that. I die because the dark elf
keeps hitting me @ 9999 damage per hit! My avg level is 23...
Is that too low or something? Very frustrating -_-; I've restarted
this about 10 times already.

pls help!

Hmm, quite a situation you got there relm. lol.

Make sure you have these few things under your hat before you dive into the mess;

• Did you talk to Edward in Troia Castle first?
• Did you purchase a heap of Leather/Other equipment for the Cave?

You are really forced to do both options to progress further in the game. Speak to Edward back in Castle Troia and he hands you over a Key Item, which enables you to make your way through Cave Magnes and defeat that damn Dark Elf. HOWEVER - your initial battle with the Dark Elf you are supposed to lose as part of the story. If you have not seen Edward beforehand however you cannot win this battle and it will be game-over.

In regards to your levels tho, I pwned the Dark Elf with these levels;

Cecil 19
Tellah 24
Cid 21
Yang 22

So... shouldnt be an issue.

I just cannot understand why people act in such a way. In my belief, a good rpg-er takes his time leveling up his characters (You're fine on this, lvl 20 is avg.) and most importantly, speaks to everyone in town when he enters one. Since people since to lack patience these days, some aspects of a game are just ignored.

Wow, tell me how you really feel? lol

Yeah perhaps people are in a hurry more and more these days or we'd rather not waste time with the BS. I admit I don't like talking to 20 people in town and there's only 4 different responses total among the 20. Specific things like this you have to be on the look out for, or you're going to get busted in cases like this. Best rule of thumb though, is just pay attention to the main characters in the storyline and what happens to them.

Gah >< I'm sorry! I should be ashamed!
I agree with you whole-heartedly though, Nick.
I'd be that way, but I guess this time
I was in a hurry and forgot. I've beaten the
game 3 time prior to this time, so I didn't think
I needed to check that many places. I still take
my time to level up of course.

Well i agree since if i remember correctly, most people just repeated others. However on BS, yes there is alot in FFIV. This is primarily a reason why some people probably get pissed at the game. In fact one being myself, where i would have preferred a wider variety of little things within gameplay.

On the main character attention, I totally agree. A great example of this is portrayed in Kain's lunar ruins trial. If you don't listen to what the charaters have to say, then you may have fun for a pretty long time talking to everyone.

I know this is pretty random and boring, but Pokemon is classified as an Rpg if i am not mistaken. If i remember correctly, talking to people got you many goods...hence my point of talking to very many people. In certain FF games, talking a second and third time may provoke a completely different conversation, hence revealing important infomation.

P.S: Sorry Relm, i read over my response and i realised i may have unintentionally verbally flipped you off.(sorry for the terms) I sincerely hope you have not taken any offense.

Cool

i got stuck on this once, but, i figured if i leveled up to level 40 something with all 4 characters (which i did before) i can get through that cave way easier than before. try leveling to level 40 or higher with all your characters (if you have the patience), then it should be a piece of cake.

Actually, instead of wasting your time leveling up, use logical spells and stuff. You know that the dark elf dragon will use many spells, thus being logical to cast shell upon your party. I'm sure you can toast this guy above lvl 15.

However, like in 99.9% of rpg's, leveling up is always for the best, therefore making your statement completely right.

You know, as many times as I've gone through this game and fought Dark Elf, I have never done that. I haven't died to him, but I've still found him to be somewhat difficult at times, and I've never used Shell. I might do that next time.

Cool

Hey guys, try leveling up all your characters to 40 before entering the cave. it works really well and you don't need to use the shell spell, because your basically tougher than the enemies in there and you can just use brute force with attack spells. i already did this twice.

Exactly like i have mentioned prior to your post, levelling up is the beauty of FF games. It ultimately gives one hope of kicking a boss's a**. Therefore i would greatly encourage levelling your characters. Just keep in mind that after a while, it may drain your interest from the game and make you go look elsewhere....
