What Is Death?

Yes..it's gloomy..

A few days ago my friend and myself had a conversation about death. He searched for an answer for a question what is death?

Of course I was surprised by his words, it was a weird thing to talk about. It not like he was about to hurt himself or whatever, he just pondered about the subject. It made me to think over it as well. In my opinion death is the end. After dying you can't feel, see, discover new things, meet new friends. It a total end for you. For me it's like breaking a stick, you can't put it together again. There's no way back.

Some believe in life after death, in Eden and Hell, in an immortal soul. I do believe that we have a soul but does it leaves us when we die? What happens after we are dead? Sadly none came back to tell us. I may be right or I may be wrong. I not trying to take it as a religious discussion or to hurt anyone's beliefs. I'm just wondering about it..

Hmm...I often wonder what a long, long, long, long sleep would be like compared to death...similar, or far different?

Being deprived of senses...feels almost like death, doesn't it?

Death is death.

You die. And then you are regenerated to the Earth, where you are reborn into another creature, with no recollection of what you were before. Deja vu plays a roll in this. Think about it, you feel like you've played the same moment before at some point... a past life. Your soul goes on and on and is forever re-used in a different external appearence.

That's what I think.

Here's something else for people who don't have that belief.

You die, you go to heaven or hell depending on if you were a good person in your life. Heaven is often refered to as paradise, and hell is often refered to as a pit of unhappiness where the devil decides on what happens to your soul.

In life, the only true promise is death.

Or to have that quote ironically...

The ironic thing about life is that no one gets out alive.

Dunno where that is from, though xP

Death in spiritually or physically?

Physically: Your physical body ages or gets destroyed. You are a no longer human but just a soul. Your soul goes to Heaven or Hell depending on if you are saved or not.

Spiritually: You aren`t saved and your soul goes to hell, seperated from God forever.

I prefer "Time is the best teacher. Unfortunately, it kills all its students."

While Chez made a good point, her depictions of Heaven and Hell aren't necessarily accurate. An "afterlife" (I prefer to think of earthly life as a "prelife") isn't determined by how "good" or "bad" we are -- at least, not according to Christianity.

But other than that, as has been mentioned, there are many, many other theories. Some believe that we are reincarnated, with no conscious memory of any "past life" -- from what I know, Hinduism includes a belief in reincarnation to the extent that one's actual physical form depends on the actions of a past live -- every reincarnation, the soul comes back in a different form, the cow being the most "sacred" form. Could be wrong about that, though, haven't read much about it for a long time. Others may believe that death is just, literally, a "dirt nap", that it's just like being comatose. And I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas out there -- look at the Heaven's Gate cult.

I guess we'll find out when we get there, won't we?

I believe when we die, we simply cease to exist mentally. Sure what we're made of continues on but what makes us us is gone, that being our thoughts. I think this is it for us, and we'd better enjoy it while it lasts. I hope theres more, because I really wanna see how we do in the future.

True.....and keep in mind that Death is the only certainty in Life. So i dont think that you just die and thats it. I think that some get reborn and some go to heaven , and there is not just rebirth because the Earths population is increasing so the new souls must come from the planet or stars or heaven or something. Thats what i think anyway.

I believe death is just another thing that people have to deal with. In my opinion, when you die- that's it. No soul, no spirits, no rebirth, just death.
I hope no one takes offence to this, but I think anyone who feels the need to believe in an afterlife lives with regrets or isn't happy with how they lived. I just feel that if you live your life to the full, you shouldn't need another one.
But back to death, I think it's the end of our natural existence.

I've always thought of death.. I see it as when you die, it isnt eternal darkness you enter, and not even eternal nothingness.. I always feared death, I thought when I die.. and I dont even exist anymore, cant even think, its like I would just disappear. I know that if I live a happy life though, lived to the fullest, death would be no problem for me.

I'd always liked to believe that you could become something else when u die (reincarnated so to speak) when i was younger. Of course, everyone would like to believe that there is something far greater on the "other side" also where we can experience eternal happiness (or damnation for bad people) in the afterlife.

But really, this whole subject is totally in belief. No one knows anything about this as no one has been brought back from the dead. Of course, faith can lead you a happier and fuller life for yourself in the mind that when Judgement Day does come you're going to a better place. However, we could all just die and lose everything and simply cease to exist except in bodily form which decomposes in the earth (or burned away in cremations).

I supppose if you REALLY wanna know, you've got to die, but I'm sure no-one is that desperate. I just look on death as something that WILL happen one day, unless someone makes an everlasting life potion which is pretty unlikely. I also hope that there IS something after this life, but who can say?
