How did you start off ?

I started off with anime. My earliest memories was of old classics like Dragon Ball (the UPN version, not the redo Toonami version) Samurai Pizza Catz, Sailor Moon and Robotech...of course, I was about 6 or 7 at the time and had no idea that the stuff that I was glued to each morning was from another country entirly. I think the first anime I watch with awareness of it being as such was Akira...although now that I look back on it...I still have no idea how that got me into watchin anime. IMO Akira sucks. I understand it just fine...but it still sucks. Thats what happens when you try to squeeze 9 encyclopedias into 2 hours.

My first anime ever was Tekkeman Blade, one of the best mecha anime's ever, hell it probably set the record for all other mecha anime's . What's even more awesome is I have the complete season next to me, rare DVD collection to find it is.

My first anime was Robotech, although I'm not sure if I recognized it as being an "anime" at first. It was cool because my big brothers liked it. Kind of like Transformers and such were cool. My brother went out and rented the New Generation series in like '92 or '93, and that's when I saw it.

the first thing I saw that I knew to be anime was Akira, as well, in like 1996; and I thought it was bad fucking ass. Leonardo as Kenada in the original english translation remains as one of the coolest things I've ever seen; such a little punk. "Yer bike's still burnin' man!" Heh. I didn't necessarily understand all of what was going on, but I got the gist of it. Plus, it had all those cool 'splosions 'n shit. And it was friggen' bizarre, and I love friggen' bizarre.

I also saw Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon before that, but I didn't know that Dragon Ball was an anime... maybe I did know that Sailor Moon was, though. I'm pretty sure I saw Samurai Pizza Cats afterwards.

Wuv, Yer Mom

EDIT: No, Devil. Robotech is the king of all mecha animes.

Technically, things like Transformers and such were probably my first real dose of anime, but the things that I watched knowing they were anime, like, probably started with CardCaptor Sakura, DragonBall Z, and Gundam Wing. Things like Digimon (which I still contend was great) and Pokémon came before those, but they weren't making me jump out of my seat saying "Wow--I need to see more stuff from Japan." That was the job of those three aforementioned shows.

EDIT: P.S. Tom; the picture in your signature makes me very happy and I just thought I'd share that with the world.

I think the first Anime I got into was Samurai Pizza Cats and Sailor Moon, yeah, the children ones. I used to love watching them when I was about six. Dragonball Z would be another anime I liked when I was younger. Haha I liked the Samurai Pizza Cats, it was quite a humorous show, especially when I was five. I even remember some of the theme song. I don't remember too much about the show though.

Pizzaria Cats was my first Anime obsession... then Digimon (Which I also still contend is great and a good alternative for Pokemon which was too kitchy for my taste, even as a 12 year old seven years ago almost.) I then got into Tenchi Muyo and Gundam Wing, which ushered me getting into very dark Animes.

Oddly enough, my cousins LOVE Shoujo Kakumei Utena and the songs TRUTH and RINBU/RONDU Revolution. (eehhh.... http://ohtori.nu Check out the Analysis page at Empty Movement and you'll get it...)

I wouldn't be the same person without Anime, no lie. I am a BIIIG Otaku.... I have told people: "tell me what you like and I'll give you an Anime to suit your fancy" and I'm serious about it. My uncle STILL hasn't returned my copy of Ghost in the Shell....

I started off with anime. I used to hate RPG's and Anime altogether way back in the day. Never gave them a chance, I guess...

But I remember the first two animes that I ever watched, which were Wicked City and Akira. It wasn't until about half a year ago that I really started getting into anime, though. As for RPG's, it's been awhile...

I usually frown down upon anime based games. But as for this one... I started with good ol' Anime. The first Shows I had happened to watch were Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Eveangalion. Those were the two shows that got me hooked to it. The movies that I liked were the Cowboy Bebop Movie, Akira, Metropolis and Ghost in The Shell. Shows I enjoy are now are Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist, and I also like Wolf's Rain a bit, but I'am not too terribley obsessed with it.

EDIT: There are also plenty of other I like, but I'am only llisting the easily remembered ones that appear on Adult Swim every so often.

I started off with anime, even if I didn't exactly know it. My dad was a big Astroboy fan when he was younger, so he bought all the tapes and we watched them together. They were some of my earliest memories involving television, probably even before I was watching popular things like Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Later on, Samurai Pizza Cats was in there...But that was shortlived since it came on so early. Sailor Moon was also on around the same time, but I was under the impression that it was scary as hell and therefore avoided it. =P

Then Dragon Ball Z appeared...Uh...Pokémon...Bought Record of Lodoss War (TV) somewhere. Got cable and watched a lot of Sailor Moon (and bought it). I'm pretty sure that Pokémon was my first manga. However, I'm not sure entirely sure where I learned that what I was watching was Japanese animation. Maybe when my friend brought over Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden 2 and I found out it was in Japanese.

Details, details.

Though I can't say entirely, I guess I started with SPC when I was younger, I use to watch stuff like Sailor Moon and TMNT when I was younger but I was more focused on my sega during my younger days. When I was about 13, DBZ came to NZ so I was a fan of that for a little while, but really I only recently have been getting into it, first anime DVD I brought was FF: Unlimited due to my FF Obsession, after that I moved to my mums who has sky (NZ Cable) and cause of my sleeping pattern started watching Adult swim, mostly Comedy night though. Since then I have gotten into Berserk and want to but the DVDs, also might get FMA and FF:Unlimited box set when I get more money.
