Disappointing movie millennium

Did anyone notice there haven't been too much great movies lately? I mean, apart from the odd surprise hit (The Island...) there haven't been any real blockbusters since the start of this millennium. And please don't mention the endless list of trilogies, sequels, prequels, Japanese horror remakes, seventies-series-to-screen adaption and ass-sucking comedies.
This may seem like a rant, but to me it's the sad truth there have been more sequels than new and innovating ideas. Maybe Hollywood is out of great ideas? Let's make a trilogy list:

Matrix - old news, got old very soon.
Star Wars - it has no special effects. You can't call them special if it's in every scene, can we?
Lord of the Rings - surprise: this one actually worked. But it's been too hyped to become epic, legendary, pulp or whatever.

Please disagree with me, and give me some exceptions I may have overlooked. Let the discussions begin.

I've noticed the same thing. I mean, were there any good movies last year? I rented four movies last night, and it too me like half an hour to find good ones -- it should take me five minutes to find four movies I want to see. So there've been plenty of good ones since 2001, I think, just not recently.

(If you haven't seen "Hide and Seek", it's pretty good. Watching that on kind of a "date" tonight -- good date movie .)
