GTA4: London?

On January 16, 2006 the popular Playstation magazine 'PSM2' reported that the next Grand Theft Auto would be set in Europe and would cover six cities in it. PSM2 closed up the article by saying that 'GTA 4' could be released at the end of 2006 and will possibly be revealed at the 2006 E3 show and may be a Sony PS3 exclusive.

Even though Rockstar has dubbed the fake screens of the game as exactly that, fake, they have gone on to say that they're going to be using the high data transfer bandwidth of the Cell CPU, RSX GPU, and Blu-ray Disc to use several streams of game info simultaneously which will lead to a GTA which we have YET to see as far as gameplay, and graphical realism.

These are *NOT* links to GTA4 environments. This is just a link to the portfolio of a man who recently aquired a position at Rockstar in Europe and I thought it would be worth the while to see his talent, and maybe get a taste of what Rockstar has in store for us on the PS3.

According to PSM the PS3 should be available worldwide in 9 months or so. Interestingly they had some information on GTA4. I quote:

"Rockstar North is said to have had its dev kit since August this year and is currently working on a brand new game engine for their next-gen GTA titles. Rockstar is aiming to create a photo-realistic city for GTA 4, complete with seriously advanced AI for the game's NPCs.

The game's city is still unknown, but we do know that it will be broken down into smaller, more detailed areas at the engine level, into which the game designers are going to be able to pour more textures, more object variety, and tons of details such as discarded soda cans with their own physics."

Anybody have any info they would like to contribute. No screen shots that I know of are available at this time, so please do not post fake screens until you have proof. I believe Rockstar is shooting for a October 2006 release to coinside with a PS3 release (2-4 months after), however Take Two Interactive is being bombbarded with FTC, Banc of America, and Federal Trade Commissions regarding sex scenes in GTA: San Andreas, which I hope, will not delay any GTA4 release date.

Rockstar has firmly stated in the past that they like to release a new GTA game every 2 years, which would allow for a 10/2006 release of GTA4 (going on the fact that GTA: Liberty Cities was not that 2-year release). However Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games, laughed and responded that the GTA fans would be happy with the outcome when asked if the GTA: LCS was the 2-year game that R* produced which leads us to believe GTA4 will in fact be released upon release of the PS3, or October 2006.. whichever comes after.

Well I like and dislike the idea of GTA in England. I like the idea of it alot, like they would be able to make it seem very dark, like GTA3 which I liked the bleakness of it. It's dark and dreary tone made it alot of fun to play in since it was unlike SA and VC. The part that I don't like is that I've played The Getaway and I ust have bad memories of how that game was and think that it may be similar. Though I'm certain it won't just the memories make me get kinda worried over it. But no big deal, because everytime Rock Star has delivered so I think this could have the potential to be the best one yet.

Yeah... I've played the Getaway as well and found it disappointing. However, Rockstar has a team of enviromentalists and photographers that try to capture the essense of every city in it's truest form, and they've been known to deliver in the past. For GTA: Vice City, I heard that they spent over 3 weeks in Miami, FL shooting images of landscape, plant life, marina's, buildings, etc.

Also, the PS3 will offer amazing detail so I'm expecting ALOT more than what The Getaway offered. I don't think R* will let us down.
