Did I miss out on Final Fantasy XI

With all this new fangled Broadband and super speedy internet stuff (that I don't seem to have yet), have I missed out on Final Fantasy XI?

It seemed like a huge investment to sign up for broadband internet access, buy a modem thing for my PS2 and the game. But now that I never did, have I missed out? Seems like it's not your average FF game with huge storyline and things. Could someone let me know if it's worth my while to get in on the Final Fantasy XI crowd?!

I, personally, think it's worth your while. A lot of players left the game when World of Warcraft came out, but almost all of them have come back to Final Fantasy XI. So, if you're interested in playing, it's at least worth giving it a chance. It's definitely not your average game... it's got an amazing storyline which (I'll admit it) takes forever to uncover due to the hundreds of hours you'll need to complete the game.

To put things into perspective, my playtime for the game is more than 13 days -- 13 days is 312 hours as it is. Many other players have gametime lengths of 50 days.... 80 days... and still haven't finished the game. There's SO much to do aside from just the major storyline, and the game has three or four different tiers of ending bosses. It's insane, as far as depth goes.

Add onto that the fact that there are currently 16 different job classes -- 19 when the next expansion comes out next month -- and there are a ton of jobs you can level and master as well. Not to mention all of the different crafting skills you can learn and level as you go, creating High Quality equipment, foods, and other items. Questing for fame in the three cities is always fun, and gets you into all the little side-stories. Fame is required to access certain items, other quests, and even some of your main storyline missions.

Basically, the game is more thorough than any Final Fantasy I've ever known.

Contrarry to popular belief, Final Fantasy XI have a massive storyline. While most of the more important plots are from the missions, other quests also have their own unique plots that are quite good if you ask me. Especially the quest "A Timely Visit" in South San d'Oria; that quest was so good it touched me to the point of shedding tears.

Of course, the time required to dedicate in completing those missions and quests to uncover the stories is far too much for an ordinary video game player, but in my humble opinion, they are well worth it. It is also a feature worth getting Final Fantasy XI for, but that's just me.

My gosh... for me, adventures through final fantasy
xi are just so mystifying, you forget about
everything else, and get engulfed by the world
of FF itself...
In my opinion the investment was worth it...
the memories and friends I've made a long the way
made it so worth it. Once I started playing
I was sucked in.. and I guess the game demands
a lot of time to get anything done, so, time given,
you get your money's worth.

I love ffxi. Though, it HAS changed a lot since I
1st started as a noobie... I dunno if the noob
experience is quite the same as it was before.

Vana'diel isn't as magical as Azeroth, and Azeroth has a better lore to it, imo, but Blizzard just..... ****ed it. And the userbase of World of Warcraft is extremely annoying.

As Cesar said, though, I quit FFXI for WoW when it launched, and have recently returned to FFXI.

Actually there are 5 end boss Loco, 5 completely seperate storylines. You have the Bastok, San d'Oria and Windurst story missions. And then you have Rise of Zilart missions and Chains of Promathia missions. I have been told that Promathia has a great story, it is just really hard to see because every time will challenge you.

Absolute Virtue is a uber powerful HNM that exists in one of the Promathia area, and no one on any server has yet to defeat it. It is more evil than Vrtra. Mainly due to the fact that it really cheap and spams Benediction. It has like 100,000 HP too since they saw one Benediction for about 43,000 HP and that was half of its HP roughly. Scary stuff.

But will challenge you and keep you entertained for years to come. This is a game you can spend several years on and not do even half of everything it has to offer. I have been on for nearly two years and still have a long way to go on seeing everything. I also have 3000+ hours logged on the game.

It's definately worth the wait.
Loco was talking about gameplay...I got 187 days of gameplay so far and still haven't seen/done loads in the game.

Ow and for the record, Absolute Virtue has been defeated on Asura server.
My linkshell is on its way to become the first ls on Unicorn server to pop it. (we have killed Vrtra, Jormungand, Ouryu and Tiamat already as well).

Peace out

It is true. It costs $12.95 every month and an extra $1 for every extra character you create.
