Top 100 Games Of All Time --- Famitsu Survey

Japan's video gaming magazine Famitsu recently took a large survey polling the top 100 video games of all time. Famitsu is considered the voice of the Japanese games community.

Final Fantasy X was rated #1 and 4 more FFs are placed in the top 20. The Dragon Quest series is very prominent as well. Not many american games were found on the list except for GTA: Vice City and a few others.

Wow, that's a pretty cool ist. That list has a lot of awesome games mentioned. I bet a lot of people are surprised that Final Fantasy X-2 is in there lol. I think Final Fantasy VIII should be a little higher in the list, it's such an excellent game in my opinion. I'm kind of surprised about FFX being number one because I like VIII better and I'm sure some people would disagree with it being #1. I'm glad a few other FF games are listed in the top 20. FFVI should be higher up in that list too because it was definitely one of the best FF's.

I'm surprised FF-X actually made it at #1.... and even more surprised above FFVII. I guess it would be somewhat different if American readers voted.

At least a lot of those are good games. I fear if the US did a list like this, it would include all of the most braindead, crappy games in existance. >.<

I'm kind of surprised 6 wasn't higher up there. I'm happy to see Xenogears, Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana), Mother 2 (Earthbound), and Chrono Trigger on there.

Hmm... we should do a TFF list. =)

Awesome ranks of the FF series games.
But I completely missed some games in that list.
Where are Doom or Counterstrike or the Panzer General series? And Samantha Fox Strip Poker?

Yeah the Japs have their own taste and they seem to love RPGs. So at least Dungeon Master would deserve to be on that list, it still beats the shit out of most games.
As for the beat 'em ups - where the hell is Mortal Combat? I was pleased to read the name Virtua Fighter though, truely one of the best ever.

Well, at least it proves that the Japanese really do love RPGs! It was quite surprising to see FFX at #1, as well as X-2 quite high up as well. And so few non-Japanese games as well! Then again, they do live in the centre of digital technology so their games are top-notch.
There were alot of games on that list that i've never heard of, with sequels! If only they'd got to the UK I'd probably have played them. I have no idea what some of them could be about.

Well thank god it wasn't an American vote...
Lets see number one pick Resident Evil IV, number two pick FF7, Number three pick GTA: VC or SA...... America is to predicatible... Well I'm glad that Resident evil 1 and 2 beat resident evil 4....somewhere in this world (Japan) people have brains over what games deserve to be where on a top 100 list.

I can't take any 'top [number here] games list' seriously unless it includes Fallout 1 or 2.

Its no surprise that FF dominates that chart though heh.

a pretty good list - man they are ape shit for dragon quest over there! i'm glad ocarina of time made the list - and there are a handful of games i didn't see that i was expecting to. namely anything from the shining force series, or any of the shenmue games.

at the end of the day all 'top anything' lists are massive piles of dog shit. it's really a trite exercise - but genuinely entertaining and passion stirring

I'm pleased that FF10 has finally wrestled the crown away from FF7. Lets be honest, it is the better game both in content and presentation.

Pleased also to see some japanese "institutes" up there like street fighter. Still a most playable game, though obviously dated now in its appearance.

I was surprised, however, to see that the metal gear solid games were favoured in order of newest to oldest. i would actually put them in order of release, MGS being my favorite followed by MGS: sons of liberty and then MGS: snake eater...

I don't agree at all, but that's my personal opinion and this isn't a debate thread. But I agree with most of the posts above that if this were an American-based list.. a lot of games that shouldn't be on there would be. I'd trust a Japanese video game opinion over most American.. cept that damn FFX at #1 lol...

Yeah, that is pretty "special," isn't it? I'm also annoyed that Smash Bros. Melee didn't make the list, but eh *shrug* I don't live in Japan, so they don't represent me... but the people that do represent me would probably have Halo as their top game... Or not. We don't know, because America hasn't been polled yet.

In any case, that looks like it's probably a fairly good list. If I had my own Top 100 games list... there might not be 100 games... I don't even know if I've played that many... but Warcraft II would definitely be number one, bitches.

sorry, i don't know if those are exactly right - it's been quite a while. - i'm with you there though, even though WarCraft III is better balanced, WCII was awesome with it's unlimited resource consumption and massive griffon armies.

but i think it's pretty easy to see which genre the japanese gamers prefer... and it's not RTS.
