*A good long storyline, exmple: FF 7 at first it seemed that the story went on like forever (that was on the first two discs) but when it came to the last one it was just to walk down to Sephiroth and PWN him.
The story WAS long but still I was a little disappointed at the last disc.
Not really bothered about a long storyline, i just has to be good and a decent length.

*Atmosphere, how can I explan how a game creates an atmosphere?
It is one of the reasons FF can be so "addictive" to me.
Quote:
*Possibilities to "drift away from the story" (not so good in FF X or X-2)
Sure there are sidequests and such but it's just not cool enough sidequests. like on FF VII there was a hidden character Vincent (NOW that was cool)
Most FFs are quite linear, only a few of them (VII not being one) aren't as linear as the rest.

Couldn't care less about the graphics. Though there weren't many games that had better graphics than X-2 at the time it was released. How can you like VII's graphics at it's release but not X-2's?

So, yeh, what I said above among others makes a good game for me.

Well I understand that, but let us take an example, God Of War- From what I've seen it's agood game but WAY to short. Thats why I never bothered to buy it.

Indeed, that's one of the reasons I liked VII so much, may they remake it. SONY PLEASE!!!!

Never played it. But if I hear a game is not that good or quite short, I'd either only rent it or wait until it's cheaper. Then again, I wait until most games are cheaper before i but them.

I meant that VII was one of the FF games that is quite linear. Sorry about my wording.

Sure they look amazing, but I really don't care about the graphics of a game. I care more about the gameplay than the graphics.

Well yeah, I buy most of my games within the week of the release, because I have waited for many of them a LOOOONG time....
And I was gonna buy it until I found out that it's so short, that sucks...
BTW, have you completed FF X-2, if so how long time did you use?

Yeah I understand you saying that but I belive that is the game I could "mess" around the longest. On FF X I just fight and fight and there is not much to do than capture monsters and getting those Celestial Weapons.

I get it, just that dulll graphics looks dull to me, and I have gotten used to the FF series (on PS) being innovative when it comes to graphics.

Around 50 hours I believe.

All there really was in VII that you could waste a lot of time with is Chocobo Breeding and the Gold Saucer.

And Blitzball.
And Sidequests (Lightning Dodging, Butterfly Catching, Cactuars etc)
etc

Yeah I spent a lot of time breeding, and I didn't have internet by then so I had to find KOTR all by my self...

I know but I hate those, the lightning dodging, COME OOON!!! 200???
Geeee see the "hentai thread" for that one, Butterfly (wanna tell me the secret trick?) I only miss Kimahris Celes weapon, Tidus I won't bother unlocking. I wan't to complete the butterfly thing but I JUST CAN'T FIND ENOUGH BLUE ONES!!!

As for FF X-2 I just didn't find anything to be cool at all, had to remind myself constantly "Dude, your playing FF. Enjoy this..." I said something like that to myself because I started to wonder "Why I play this..this...this...****"

I should of taken my brother's advice and never bought the game.

DarkVivi, you bring up most of the points why I didn't like the game. It was fun, but only for like the first few hours. The dresssphere system was crap. Of all things that pissed me off, you were only able to use 3 characters throughout the entire game! In X, you were able to use more than 5 characters. Not only that but in all the other FF games, there were more than 3 usable characters in which to play throughout the game.

well square has been working there asses off u should know that so they made FFX-2 for well to stall i suppose ( at least i think ) and for a fast pace game that wouldn't take a long time to beat and not a long time to accomplish they did a goods job but they will make better i know that so umm ya if not then square is ognna suck at rpgs from then on ( that wont happen neither )

Hey DarkVivi now that i read your posts it looks like u h8 all RPG's cause like u do its either it doesnt have the fu**ing graphics or it doesnt have a long ass story line or u just fu**ing h8 it. Dam dude just go pick up a random RPG and i bet ull find something bad either the graphic, gameplay, game engine itself, or the game holy shit how sad ( very sad ) give them RPG's a break like FF7-9 u loved but once it came to the PS2 all the RPG's u play u h8 and god of war it was one of the best games ever one of the best graphic and gameplay ( not much of a story ) and it was rater 10-10 and u just dont like it ur not an RPG type of person then

X2 deviated from the ff we all know a team of all females, start off with an airship, changing jobs in battle, crappy pop music.

first off the battle system was what hooked me to the game. it was pretty intense, and the job change ability was a much needed addition.

the story was... okay... lets leave it at that.

the graphics were top notch, at least in most instances. the mission based gameplay was a breath of fresh air for the ff series, since it didn't follow the played out linear gameplay of its bretherin.

however the characters were too peppy, kinda reminded me of preteen school girls in scantily clad clothing. nevertheless it gave me a rather a nostalgic feeling, to see old towns revisited, to know what happens after ffx. it was duetime for an actual sequel to a ff.

it was a great game but the story did not appeal to your basic RPG fan. therefore it has been shunned by many. simply becasue it was different. i say it was a bold approach that... shouldn't be repeated until a more sutable gaming audience arrives.

now i am done farting stuff out of my brain... MR E MAN ...OUT

the replay value was pretty low. i played it twice and stopped, the story just didn't grip me the same way as ffx which i played through over 8 times, dedicating well over 300 hours of my life to it.

I like to think of this game as "Final Fantasy X lite" because it didn't seem to be a very serious sequel. Paine was my favorite character as far as attitude went. Yuna was like a carbon copy of Rikku, and Lulu (my favorite character from X) wasn't playable.

It's okay, I guess. Job system helps.

To be honest i felt like FF X-2 was a big dissapoinment the battle system was too quick and easy, and the whole custome change system was just boring, FFX is thousands of times better, but anyways i got my money back for FFX-2 after about 2 hours of playing and changed it for another game instead

I thought that X-2 was a very good game but if people with short tempers played this game then they would probably think it is crappy, I would give X-2 an 8.5 out of 10.
