| ...Shocking... heh... |
After hearing several cover versions of songs in the last year or two, I have decided to make a thread about it. The point is, what is your best and worst cover versions of songs you have heard? Best Cover Version - The Futureheads- Hounds Of Love (originally done by Kate Bush) The reason why I really like this cover version of Hounds Of Love, is that The Futureheads have taken a classic Kate Bush song, yet have done it in their own distinct style. For those who don't know, The Futureheads are an art-punk/indie band who's music comprises of spikey guitar riffs, energetic sounds, and 4-part harmonies sung in their own (North-East England) accents. Not eexactly Kate Bush style, so when you think about it, The Futureheads doing a cover version of Kate Bush sounds like it would be a disaster zone, but it's really well done. Worst Cover Version - The Sugarbabes- I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Originally done by the Arctic Monkeys Yesterday the NME awards took place. For some reason beyond my understanding, teenie-bop pop-heroines The Sugarbabes were there. "Why?" I thought to myself. Then, to my utter disgust, they perfored the Arctic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor". Shock! Horror! It was attrocious! NEVER AGAIN! I bet the Arctic Monkeys themselves (who picked up 3 awards) were so ashamed by this pitiful attempt at covering one of their songs. Apparently they are going to cover one of their songs on radio... ARGH!

| | Best Cover- Disturbed: Shout (2000) (Originally done by Tears for Fears) Even though i don't listen to metal that much any more (or whatever sub-genre Disturbed are in), I still like this song. It seems to be more powerful the the 80's original, and it fits the style of Disturbed very well. Worst Cover- Lostprophets: Cry Me A River (Originally done by Justin Timberlake i think) This was once on a single by the Lostprophets. I've only heard it once, which is more than enough, and it's crap. Simple as that. Even though the lead singer of the band can hit the high notes quite well the song is still terrible. Please, for the sake of yours do not listen to it!

| | BEST : Aaron Lewis doing a cover of Eddie Vedder's famous epic "Black". He just has this way of just projecting the lyrics right into your being and making you feel the song. The first time I heard it I got some crazy chills all over my body. It's that good. It was only released on the Family Values tour cd - I forget what year. I got it off of iTunes. Worst : I Can't Get No Satisfaction, by Britney "Watch my baby drive" Spears. Talk about destroying a classic. Granted, I am not a Stones fan, but that is a landmark song in rock and roll. Who doesn't know that song? And then ya got Britney throwin her trash all over it and absolutely obliterating that song. ACK. There should be a law.

| | Best Cover: Tight between Goldfingers "99 red balloons" and AFI's "My Michelle". Both songs are fantastic, and well done by those bands. Crap Cover: Ah, probably "Bye Bye Bye" by Further Seems Forever. Cover of that nsync song.

Best Cover I would have to say the best cover song I have heard would be 'Since I don't Have You' Covered by Guns n' Roses. I don't know who done it originally, I think it's a really old song though. I really enjoy the Gunners version, it's really awesome. Worst Cover I heard Dolly Parton singing 'Imagine' yesterday and it was the most horrific thing I have ever heard. She ruined the song! How could she do such a thing! She turned it into country music! Nooo! My Mum thought it was pretty good, I think John Lennon would be rolling over in his grave if he heard it lol. ![]()

| Blue of Blue | The best cover would have to be Jimmy Buffet, and his cover of The Kinks' Sunny Afternoon. They just did a really good job with it, and I like the sound that heputs in to it, it's a relaxed islandy sound. Hard to describe, but it's defenitely awesome. The worst cover I'd say there is would have to be Limp Bizkits Behind Blue Eyes, originally done by The Who. It's just purely ridiculous, it doesn't sound good, it's sloppy and trying to be osmething that they aren't. I've heard it a few times, and just don't approve, yes to The Who, and NO to Limp Bizkit! | ||||||||

| | I would say the best cover version is probably 311's cover of Love Song originally by the Cure. I think the electric twist indifference to the standard, just adds a lot more melody to the song. I think it's better than the original. Worst version would be Johnny Cash's version of Hurt originally by Nine Inch Nails, I just think your mixing two completely different types of groups/artists and the result is an atrocity of crap.

Another bad cover I heard was Celine Dion singing 'You Shook Me All Night Long' by AC/DC. Haha I don't think I need to say anymore about that one. It was just plain BAD. I cannot stand that woman! Ugh! I wish she would stick to her own genre of music. Now for a cover I actually like, it's another Guns n' Roses song (of course). Its 'Live and Let Die'. I definitely prefer it over Paul's version. I cannot stand his version. Even my parents are starting to like GnR versions more lol.

| | Best Cover - Emperor covering Bathory's A Fine Day to Die! Honestly both versions are so good, the atmosphere is so f*cking cold and it fills me with nostalgia, though not everybodies cup of tea I still think its the best. Worst Cover - Well I can't find anything that bad on my playlist, so I guess I will go with korns Pink Floyd cover too, Pink Floyd is an amazing band and to have a band like korn cover them is an insult to good PF. Honorably regards to Demons and Wizards Cream cover of The White Room, Children of Bodoms Iron Maiden cover of Fear of the Dark and Apocalyptica's Plays Metallica in Four Cellos.

| | Worst Cover: The Alien Ant Farm cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." They took a decent pop song and made it into a mad nu metal song. Best Cover: The Ramones doing the Trashmen song "Surfin' Bird."
