That stuff is bullshit.

If the world was going to flood again, how would they know when? What, just because of the weather? Who cares? We've had massive floods throughout the world, but not the WHOLE world, all at once. That's just stupid.

No offence to anybody who -believes- that stuff, but personally, I think it's complete and utter crap.

People are only trying to state their own opinions here. They are allowed to, it's a free country. Must you correct everyone? Are you an expert of the bible? Not everyone believes in God. Everybody has their theories, don't say their wrong. I'm not saying you're wrong, not at all. I'm just trying to say...stop telling everyone they're wrong because they have just as much right to say something as you. For all we know, they could be right! I'm trying not to be insulting but that's the way I feel.

The world is going to end one day. How? We don't know. I have heard countless stories about it. My friend reckons it'll blow up randomly, lol she's like that. We know global warming isn't doing much to help things. It's going to happen someday but when?
Well, I do think it was a smart move how you caught me in the act.

Yes, I am quick to tell people they are wrong if they believe bull like the Big bang and if they share all this crap that they probably saw in some science video in school.

I`m not expecting you to know the Truth because as you said, you don`t read the Bibe nd go to Church. Now you don`t HAVE to read it and go to church but it`s a good accessory for a Christian believer.

Trust me, I enjoy listening to people bring up their theories. The only time I like to say what you quoted is when someone posted BS COMPLETLY contradictig my post before in an attempt to piss me off.

I doubt it was in an attempt to piss you off -- what would anybody get out of that?

I am a non-Christian, but I do not believe or disbelieve what you're trying to say. Now, it's not my place to say "you're wrong / you're right", but I think it's important not to be become angry or paranoid about other members out to spite you as I'm sure they are not...

Still though, my opinion on this thread: complete crap.

It just seems highly unlikely. If the world starts crumbling, let it. It's everyones' problem, but those who choose not to care about it, are just the ones who don't give a crap about what happens because of the way people have treated this planet already. In my opinion, human life doesnt deserve to exist on this planet after using high fuel efficient machines, etc.

If I died during something like that -- I won't be alive to care or say "shit, I was wrong" ... So I stick to my opinion.

I was reading today in a book I purchased at Barnes & Noble about Russia, or perhaps it was referring to a country in that area having to do with countries uprising against Israel in a sign of the end times, and it made it seem Russia would be sided with the Arab leagues to do this. I found that interesting, because isn't Russia attempting to help Iran build it's nuclear power plants for "civilized means"?

That could be interesting.
Firstly: It's already happened

Think about it. The moon is a result of something very huge crashing into the Earth. If it won't be knocked off axis from that, theres probably a good chance that event won't affect Earth's orbit.

Infact, blowing up Earth is a lot harder than most are led to believe. Infact, the Earth is a 4,550,000,000-year-old, 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of iron.
It's taken more asteroid hits than you have had in dinners.

But, I'll level with you. I'll go through some of the things that can be done to send the Earth off it's orbit far enough to do damage. Regardless of how impractical it may seem.

1. Electromagnetic Influence.
Normally, the Earth is thought of as a 'ground'. In that, it carries zero overall electrical charge. What if it didn't? If the Earth could be electronically charged, we could dump lots of identically charged particles into the Earth or just ionize particles already present. Then, using some sort of gigantic Amber rod, I guess, we could direct the Earth in a direction of interest.

Yeah, thats impractical to an extreme. Moving on.

2. Direct rocket propulsion
Build a gigantic, possibly nuclear rocket furnace. Or one, maybe four million, depending on your budget. when I say gigantic, I mean the size of Germany or Belgium. They'd needed to be designed carefully so that when used, the rocket engines do not just propel themselves through and into Earth - they'd become useless. Or you could periodically dig them up every few thousand years to continue blasting. Or build new ones. I bet your grandmother could do it.

Obviously, the major problem with this method is that there aren't even any theories on how you could possibly build rockets that large. Let alone find fuel for them. An even more major problem is that Earth is constantly spinning. You could build an engine at either of the poles and you'd be no better off.

However, you could divert a relatively small amount of resources to simply stop the Earth from spinning, since Earth's angular kinetic energy is negligible compared to it's orbital kinetic energy. Then you could blast those rockets and fly off in your direction of choice.

Yep, grandma can definitely do that. This isn't even worrying about the atmospheric influences. However, it's far easier to remove the atmosphere, move Earth and reinstall it later. It's quite difficult to move Earth with this method - not from just a logistics standpoint.

3. Direct matter propulsion
Like #2, but instead of rockets, there would be gigantic rail-gun/mass-drivers that fire huge quantities of matter away from Earth, rather than rocket exhaust. In addition to the problems of #2, you'd need to take into account Earth's gravity (about 9.8Km/h, sometimes 11Km/h, depending on who you talk to) when firing, since you'd need enough force to blast the particles hard enough to even leave the atmosphere, let alone push Earth.

No better than #2.

4. Disassemble, move bits of Earth, reassemble.
Current scientific understand probably can't explain how this could be done, so I won't bother.

5. Hit Earth with something really big.

You could use everyone's favourite method: Hit Earth, really, really hard with a gigantic thing.
Let me emphasize 'hit', 'really, really hard' and 'gigantic'. Ceres, Sol's biggest asteroid, is less than 1/40,000th of Earth's mass. The moon is 1/80th. These are probably the heaviest objects you are likely to find. Don't even get me started on how you'll move them, but I'll tell you this: Be very patient and work out how to become immortal first.

How to not destroy Earth
Make everyone jump.

Don't bother. Even if you could move Earth by, say, 2Km off it's orbit, guess what, it'd go right back!
Thats if you could get everyone to jump in sync, and if you could reliably calculate the total weight needed (hell, I doubt that even if there were 10 billion people on Earth, each weighing about 90Kg, Earth wouldn't move), you'd still be going through an exercise in futility.

EDIT: I hate the vernacular of this post.

umm say that there isnt a god...and that a rainbow is actually water molecules reflecting light. umm that whole theory goes out the window.
and umm, its a fact that the polar ice caps are melting, and well that means a rise in the sea level, so who knows its quite possible. eventually we could either go way under water, not neccesarily any time soon. but hell what do we know?

as for the mayans only having a calender going to 2012, why would they have a calender dating past the end of the world?

everybody seems to forget that the world goes through climatic shifts, history will eventually repeat itself. so im down with the mayans
