Howdy, folks. New poster here. Long-time fan of the series, though.
With apologies to the veterans tired of these posts, I must confess I love to dream about remakes and re-releases and revisiting my youthful gaming days in general. I therefore submit my list of top What-If games for the Final Fantasy series. (in no particular order) Final Fantasy III Advance So, I hear this one's coming to the DS. That's cool. I've always wanted to play FF3 (outside of an emulated/translated hacked ROM, which I avoid) and I'll finally get the chance. Ever since they announced Dawn of Souls for the GBA, I was hoping III would follow suit. Final Fantasy VIII Revisited My far-and-away favorite FF game could remain largely unchanged, if only recreated on a system with superior 3D power, like the PS3 or a gaming PC. I once saw a version of FFVII for the PC that someone had thrown a ridiculously powerful PC at (for the time) and I never wanted to play it on the Playstation after that. Full-scale remakes of FFIV and FFVI I'm looking for real remakes here, with new graphical engines, pre-rendered cutscenes, voiceovers, fully-3D environment, etc. These games had two of the best FF stories to date, full of rich characters, awesome villians, engaging plot-lines, and epic arcs. I just think seeing Rubicant (sorry, I prefer the old names) surprise the party in a dramatic 3D setting would be awesome. A single-player FF set in Vana'diel I devoted a good year of my life (and, in fact, 70+ solid days of playing time) to Final Fantasy XI, and I loved it. The world was amazing, the settings inspiring, the music moving... I love the awesome scale of a huge MMORPG world, and I think a single-player FF game set in something like that would be awesome. I could think of more, but these are the ones I daydream the most about as I sit in my office filling out status reports and attending project meetings. |

1. Full-scale, high-definition 3D remakes of the NES and SNES trilogies (Final Fantasy I-III and IV-VI respectively): The NES trilogy and the SNES trilogy would be remade as full-3D games for PS3 or later, thus having a high-quality and high-definition (1080p or 1080i) full 3D environment. They would be called "Final Fantasy I-VI New School", e.g. "Final Fantasy IV New School." The first two 3D remakes would be released together while the others would be released separately. They will later be re-released in trilogy box sets as "Final Fantasy NES trilogy" and "Final Fantasy SNES trilogy", or alternatively "Final Fantasy Origins 3D" and "Final Fantasy Chronicles 3D." The 3D remakes would be based on the GBA versions. Voice acting might be used. There would also be enhanced soundtracks, thus being orchestrated or arranged. The GBA names would be used for the 3D remake of the SNES trilogy. The Final Fantasy Origins names would be used for the 3D remakes of Final Fantasy I and II, and have the gameplay of the GBA version. It would take less time and manpower to remake the NES trilogy in 3D than to remake the SNES trilogy the same way.
2. Final Fantasy VII remake - By popular demand, Final Fantasy VII would most likely be remade for PS3. 3. Final Fantasy games with battle system choices - There should be Final Fantasy games that would allow the player to switch battle systems, from Passive Turn-based Battle system (as in the NES trilogy), to Active Time Battle system (as in Final Fantasy IV-IX and X-2), to Conditional Turned-based Battle system (as in Final Fantasy X), to Real-time Battle System (as in Final Fantasy XI), to Active Dimensional Battle system (as in Final Fantasy XII). 4. New criticially successful Final Fantasy games. - That is new Final Fantasy games that will critically trump Final Fantasy VI and VII. Final Fantasy XII is said to do this. I am thinking of Final Fantasy XIII recapturing the magic of Final Fantasy VI and VII, thus becoming the new Final Fantasy VI and VII in one. 2D purists would be the sole despisers of that game. 5. The official return of Nobuo Uematsu - I would like for Nobuo Uematsu to play a major role in composing the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack. Last edited by Ted Zanarukando; 01-30-2006 at 10:43 PM. |

Sparky: There is indeed rumors and i a week ago i searched the web, i found out two things.
1. On the last E3 S-E made a somekind of movie to show off what FFVII would look like on the PS3 console. 2. The fun part, There was statements about the remaking of VII for PS2 and they where talking about frases like the next step in the process and stuff like thet but didn't give any confirmation but i think they'll remake it ![]()

I have seen the PS3 Technical Demo footage of the FFVII intro movie rendered in realtime 3D using the supposed 'PS3' hardware. While the movie was impressive, they backed up that demonstration with a statement that they weren't showing footage from any game in development.
That being said, it would still be cool. I'd buy it, play it, be late for work because of it, etc. At this point I don't think it's worth Squeenix's time to develop Final Fantasy games for the PS2 after FFXII, this close to the launch of the PS3. Yeah, I know some of you younger or more financially-challenged folks out there can't necessarily afford a new video-game system, but the PS2 is what, almost six years old? |

Final Fantasy VII was released two years after the Japanese launch of the PSOne. Final Fantasy X was released a year after the launch of the PS2. There are some PS2 Square Enix games before Final Fantasy X, such as The Bouncer.
There will be a few PS2 Square Enix games after Final Fantasy XII. One of them is Seiken Densetsu 4. Legend of Mana is NOT Seiken Densetsu 4. Last edited by Ted Zanarukando; 01-26-2006 at 05:01 PM. |

1. FINAL FANTASY III REMAKE - I don't care adbout graphics or music. I just want to be able to play this on my PS2 (or maybe PS3). Although new graphics and stuff like that would be nice.
2. Final Fantasy Arena - A 2 player game in which you can load characters from your memory card and battle against others. You could choose which FF the characters you fight with are from and you could choose arena's. 3. PS3 Remakes - It would b great to have all the games updated with new graphics, voiceovers and some little added extras, like new side quests. I can see it now. FFI in full 3D. |

One new thing on my what-if wishlist is a re-dubbed remake of Final Fantasy X, possibly on PS4. The remake would have different voice actors for Tidus and Yuna. Kingdom Hearts rereleases would have voices changed in accordance with that Final Fantasy X remake. The remake of Final Fantasy X would also have a fully arranged soundtrack. It would be based on Final Fantasy X International, and the Sphere Grid may remain unchanged from Final Fantasy X International. A new orchestral version of "To Zanarkand", similarly as played in the Dear Friends concert, would be added for use in the end credits after the orchestral version of "Suteki Da Ne" in order to make room for the remake credits.
