SW is right

powerpop?
emocore?

genre nazis ahoy!

there are far too many genre nowadays, people create a new genre every day just so they don't get lumped with another band even though both bands sound the same.

next there will be:

post-extreme-vegan-opera-owl-scream-hair-core

disabled-core

core-core

post-homo-erotica-core

P.S. sailing you wouldn't be making a flame already would you? n00b

*Sigh* Yes, I have heard of drone and doom metal. Those are real genres. Nadja's "Truth Becomes Death" is awesome. (And, I swear to God, if that isn't "Doom Metal" in the eyes of you people, then, I'll shall go ahead and assume that none of you know anything about music in general.)

I have a feeling that you all like the Gorgoroth-like Black Metal, as opposed to the Dimmu Borgir-like Black Metal. Here's the deal: Both bands are Black Metal, but they sound rather different. Just like, say, The Appleseed Cast and Death Cab For Cutie are both emo bands, but they both sound different. Just like Explosions In The Sky and The Microphones are both post-rock bands, but they sound very different. I don't like The Appleseed Cast because I don't like that style of emo (I don't like most emo, honestly). I don't like The Microphones because I don't like that style of post-rock. But, I love Explosions In The Sky. I can't really dig on Gorgoroth. I mean, they're ****ing crazy (literally), but they're not my taste. I do enjoy Dimmu Borgir. Yes, Dimmu Borgir is both gothic and symphonic, but just because I can use those words to describe them, doesn't mean that there is a genre called that. That's like me saying Gorgoroth is hard and fast, but I can't say that they are classified in the genre, "Hardfast." They are Black Metal.

Leviathan, I don't mean to flame. And Lord Grimsword, I think your a cool person, I just get very distraught with the amount of genres that people are coming up with these days. And, I understand that I'm a n00b, but I'm not going to veil my personality because of my status. And just because I've only posted here, like, 20 times, doesn't mean I don't know anything about music.

And, Sardonic Wrath, I think everyone on this message board entered the realms of stupidity when you came here and named yourself "Sardonic Wrath." I don't dislike you, but I do feel the need to retaliate (You did indirectly call me stupid). I have never heard 1349, so I can't judge them.

And, out of curiosity (and not to start a new thread within a thread), but do any of you listen to anything besides metal? I don't mean that in an asshole-ish way, I'm actually wondering. Because, black metal is cool and all, but there isn't a whole lot to get out of it. I mean, the subject matter is often the same stuff with a bunch of dudes just trying to out-goth each other with titles like "Atheistic Prelude To Immortality" (Mystifier) and "Under The Pagan Megalith" (Gorgoroth). I mean, am I the only one here who finds the humor in this? These bands are ****ing hardcore, and they take themselves seriously, but how many times can we use the word "Satan" in a song or album title? I mean, and I know this will probably get your panties in a twist but, isn't overusing the word/name "Satan" in song titles just as repetitive and mundane as boring-ass Christian artists overusing "Jesus" or "God" in their song titles. Something to think about. And, please try and refrain from flaming me just because I compared black metal to christian rock. Think about what the hell I just typed.

I listen to Death Metal, Power Metal, Folk Metal, Black Metal, Doom, Classical music, and a shit load of soundtracks, i like anything that has been made using feeling, gay tracks by good charlotte or gay emo shit, about girlfriends who died in car crashes are bullshit, i care not for these.

But jazz, classical where its all about the music as it should be, is where its at, i love some of that stuff, i ordered the FF tactics soundtrack yesterday i can't wait for that to come.

PS he's called Sardonic Wrath after the Darkthrone album Sardonic Wrath.

The Sailing, Gothic metal is a genre. Gothic metal is the genre that current Dimmu Borgir fits into at this point in time.

Their first two albums, were black metal, however their most recent albums are not.

Children of Bodom, have never been black metal, always power metal. If you do not realize this you will never be taken seriously in any metal community.

Nadja are not straight doom metal like Candlemass and the like, but rather a Drone Doom type.

Anyways, Wyrd. ****ing amazing band, no?

lol...my bad, Sardonic Wrath. I just thought you called yourself that because you thought it sounded cool or hardcore or whatever. I stand corrected.

I also stand corrected about Power Metal (I forgot to mention this in my last post). I agree that that the genre does exist and that Children of Bodom can be classified in this genre. (I still believe them to be classified under black metal as well, but I say we just agree to disagree, no? )

I am not, like, super into Doom and Drone metal (I've never actually heard the term "Drone metal" but I'll go there with you), but, I do believe that based on what the name "drone metal" implies, Nadja would be considered this. I would also assume that Doom Metal and Drone Metal are different genres, and in the universe of Metal, the two genres would be perhaps the only two planets in their galaxy? (Was that a question?)

You see, I listen to a lot of music, but metal honestly isn't super high on the list. I do have a strong appreciation for it (and I do know a decent amount about it whether some of you think so or not ). And a lot of my friends who share similar tastes with me pass metal off as some super-fast, idiotic, testosterone-feuled mess of screaming and bullshit. (And, I mean, some of it really is. Mostly the popular "metal" bands...nu-metal or corporate metal or whatever you wanna call that shit. I have no appreciation for that kind of "metal.") But, when my opinion or knowledge of something (especially music-related) is attacked (especially arrogantly or in a "holier-than-thou" kind of way), I kinda take offense and feel the need to counter in the same manner. I really don't mean to come off as a complete ****ing asshole. I mean, I am an asshole to an extent, but that's not the only thing I am. I really mean no disrespect to any of you and I do apologize for flaming a little bit back there.

And, Leviathan, I'm glad to see that metal isn't the only thing you listen to. It's good to have wider horizons. Classical music pwns. Not, a jazz fan, but I appreciate it. And yes, Good Charlotte can burn in Hell along with most similar artists (if you can really call them that).

And, Sir David, I may not agree with what you say, but I shall defend you to the death your right to say it (or something like that ). And yes, Nadja is an amazing band.

I am not a genre-Nazi, I just don't consider CoF, COB (I kind of like them but not that much) or McDimmu Burger black metal, Dimmu has breakdowns and all the same structures and nu-metal, if anything I consider them nu-metal, but thats just how I view them.

As for the other post there is heaps of great BM you just have to dig a little bit, a lot of people get put off NSBM cause of their racial ideals but Graveland and Burzum are great imo. I also listen to a bit of classical, ambient/noise and punk.

Nice double-post there DC Sparky.

There's a modify button for a reason.

And, you should really consider listening to other types of music. There's a ton of music out there you may not know that you might like. You never know unless you try, right? Just a suggestion.
