Were all those jobs really necessary?

Geomancer, Dancer, Bard, Chemist...BLA!!!

There are so many jobs...but tell me are they all really necessary? Which ones would you leave out? And wha jobs do you think are the most essential. And do you think only certain abilites of certain jobs are useful? TELL ME!!!

I think, the Blue Mage, Geomancer, Dancer, Bard, Chemist, Trainer and Summoner could easily be left out. I know I wouldn't miss them. What about you?

Well I think they were all necessary in some way. I mean they all serve a purpose for a short span of time. But I could be wrong here, I mean the Knight and the Berserker were quite pointless to me. I mean the Knight abilities of Equipping shit was useless, I never equipped a Mage of any type with Armor. N' the Berserker, wth was that about, constant attacking doing high damage without any choice of a different move?? If there was a speed boost for being a Berserker than ok, if not, than there is no point in the class as other jobs offer high damage attackers.

I think the most essential for abilities were probably S-Shot and $toss, Hunter and Samurai.

Most useful jobs overall were Summoners, Chemists, Red Mages, and White Mages.

Well, personally I'd much rarther have too many jobs than too few, stands to reason really.

But to sum it up, I dont believe anything simular to another class is that attracive, for example I'm not keen on the prospect of a dancer becasue to me they would have moves that a bard has... (I've never seen a 'dancer' before so I could be wrong). Also I think it's a little silly having a dancer able curse people with their funky moves...

They all have a use but I do see your point IM. Dancer is a job a use on Bartz when I feel crazy and I'm in the field. The job is super lame and you wouldnt catch yourself using it in a boss battle. Bard was another annoying thing that I just used in the field. But fron wat I can remember, having to collect the songs for the bard led me to finding a bard who is (what I believe is) a cameo of Edward from FFIV so I thankful for that. And there was this time when there was tons of zombie and I used that Requiem move and I killed them ALL.

Summoners are very useful except the look kinda dumb but with alot of MP and lots of espers, (I think the called them that in FFV too) u could rack up the damage.

Blue Mage is good if u get the moves and Chemist is good but looks retarded although he pax good healing. The geomancer is good/bad depending on the place. If ur in a fire dungeon the monsters would be fire and so will the geo's attack-Absorbed.

The berserker sux really bad.Good thing they fixed that in FFX-2.

And you, my friend, have no idea how to use a Dancer effectively.

Fight
Dance
<Equip Sword>
Item

R: Brave Blade (or Excalibur or other powerful Knightsword)
L: <nothing>
H: Ribbon
B: Rainbow Dress
A: Red Shoes

What does this give you? It gives you a character who is immune to all bad statuses and can Dance every turn for about a 75% chance of getting Sword Dance which, if you're equipping a Brave Blade, will cause in the neighborhood of 9600 damage. Without being overlevelled, no other attack will cause near that amount.

The only weakness is that Dancers' HP is nothing to write home about. Also, you don't acquire most of this equipment until the final dungeon, so until then, you're right that Dancers aren't that wonderful.

EDIT: Wait, nevermind. The time I did this, I was doing a no-mimic, no-bare challenge. The bare class can get all the advantages of the uber Dancer equipment and the Dance ability without needing to use EquipSword, and also has much better stats. So only regard what I said above if you are avoiding mimic and bare.

Everything awall said is true and was exactly what I was thinking in regards to the comment. I mean for the most part the Dancer abilities are sub par, however Sword Dance can really do some damage. With the Red Shoes increasing the chance of it occurring you have a fricken deadly J-Lo in your party.

Yeah, I'm in the middle of playing FF V for the first time (I just got to Galuf's world) and I gotta be honest, I can't really find the point of a Blue Mage. Like, those spells really aren't as effective as regular magic. That spell (whose name escapes me at the moment) that you can learn from a Quadrharpy in the desert is kinda cool, but...honestly I'd rather just use white and black magic. Inferno Mage, I see your point, but I also see Legendary's point in that I'd rather have more jobs that fewer. I mean, you don't have to use all of them. (Although, I do feel the need to just because I'm obsessive about shit like that. )

Hmm... if you're in Galuf's world then it's probably too late to go back and get these, but Blue Mages do have several skills that make them decidedly un-useless.

White Wind - learn from Whirldemon in the floating city: Arguably the best healing spell in the game. Reasonably priced, heals the entire party for a boatload of HP, and doesn't care whether they're undead or not.
Aero 1/2/3 - learn from a handful of dudes, but if you're in Galuf's world you've probably missed most of your easy opportunities: The Blue Mage version of Fire/Ice/Bolt. A bit less powerful, but does the trick. Aero 2 could have been learned inside the floating city.
1000 Needles a.k.a. Blowfish (depends on your translation) - learn from Lamia thingies inside the floating city. Good, but expensive.
Emission - learn from the rockets on the outside of the floating city. Fire2 for half the price.
Lv5 Doom a.k.a. FFV's version of Vanish-Doom - learn from Page 64 in the Ancient Library: Fairly cheaply priced, multi-target removal spell with 100% accuracy. Drops about 20/30% of enemies in the game, including a fair number of bosses. Don't use this if you don't wanna be cheap.
Aqua Rake - learn from the dudes in the desert between Karnak and the Ancient Library. Usually not worth it, but mad ownage on anything weak to water.
Blood Suck - lean from just about any bat enemy in the game. Costs 2 MP, drains mad HP ([caster's_max_HP - caster's_current_HP] / 2). How can you lose?

On top of that, late game Blue Magic massively rocks.

Don't worry, you're not the first person to claim that Blue Magic sucks. Admittedly it's a bit harder to use than normal magic, but I think it's one of the best skillsets in the game.

I'd be interested to know how Inferno Mage finds Summoning useless. I found Reina to be pretty useful as a Summoner during the first two thirds of the game. If you alternate it with White Magic, your character is set for the rest of the game.

That's what I did with Reina. I had her master the White Mage and Summoner job classes, and then made her a Knight for the increased HP and attack power.

The only one that ever really bothered me was the Beserker everyone else had their uses. Blue Mage got guardian and Aqua Rake which could kill many bosses in one hit. Summoners got Golem which made physical attacks nothing pretty much, and Dancers had sword dance and could wear ribbons. Bards had requiem amazing for undead enemies. Chemists could mix kickass things for later boss battles. Geomancers were good in Dungeons with the damaging floors and could actually sometimes cause quite a bit of damage.

No not all the jobs were necessary, but it made for more variety. I mean would you only want 6 jobs or something? I think the more jobs the better. Sure some jobs I may not use that often, but I'm sure others use them. Although I try and get everything I can for the different jobs.

I think I went through a large part of the game using everyone in the White Mage job with the BareFist ability.

Just because.

But the Trainer job was well worth it - being able to learn !Control and manipulating the Zombie Dragons in the castle with the 8 Ancient Weapons was fantastic for levelling up my character and their Ability Points.

I stayed fighting them as soon as got there near the start of the game, and fought and levelled up until I was about Lv 50.

Learned some very useful abilities for the rest of the game and made it a lot easier to play through until reaching the end...

Yeah there were to many jobs. Really I only used a few. They could have almost cut the jobs in half.
