The saddest anime ever?

What is the saddest anime ever in your opinion?

I think Grave of the Fireflies was the saddest anime.

That was a great anime.
Brought me to tears.
I managed to watch it all though.
So sad
I can't remember the characters but I remember the overall story.
And imagine it's all true

I remember watching an episode of Full Metal Alchemist last night and that snake/human girl was killed by some dude with the "Ultimate Eye". That was pretty sad (and gross, I mean, blood was just pouring out of Al's metal body). Also, S-CRY-ed was kinda sad to, when that blue haired chick killed herself to save Kazuma's friend.

Blue Gender has some pretty sad moments.
*spoliers*
Espaicialy in the beginning with everyone dieing trying to save Yugi.
The sadest moment being when that little girl is killed and her puppy dog comes back trying to find her.

But I agree Vat2ff, Grave Of The Fireflies is the sadest anime ever, it really gets to you because they don't deserve it, they're just kids.

Bearing in mind that I haven't seen too much anime, I think the end of the movie version of X was really sad:

Spoiler:
When Kamui had just beheaded Fuma and just knelt there in the wreckage of Tokyo Tower, cradling his friend's head in his arms crying. Then there were those photo flashbacks with Fuma's voice laid over the top, talking about how it all went wrong. Then the lyrics of Forever Love start up as Kamui starts crying even harder.

Almost made me cry

Grave of the Fireflies was a really sad anime. I almost cried when I watched it . My memory is fuzzy about certain sad scenes but the movie as a whole was just heartwrecking.

I agree about Elfen Lied's sad parts. That part was really sad and you just think that some people are actually like that.

I highly agree on X being sad. Also: Bubblegum Crisis 2040(?) when that little girl was killed. I had nightmares about that for weeks. Also the very end of Haibane-Renmei brought me to tears.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a horribly disturbing and sad anime series. I would have been satisified with the way that the anime series ended, but since the Producer received so many complaints AND death threats; he decided to lease two movies.

...I'm serious people. The series, toward the end, was bad enough; but the movies are increasingly worse. Death and Rebirth isn't so bad, because most of it is just parts taken from the series; but The End of Evangelion is horribly twisted, sad and corrupt.

I wish I hadn't seen it. I wish that it would have just stayed at the anime series, I'm not necessarily a happy person myself; but it can bring any perky person down. Watch something happy afterwards and MAKE sure you don't watch it at 3 AM in the morning when you are so tired you do not get to watch anything happy afterwards.

I've never seen Grave of the Fireflies, but I heard it's very sad. I've been meaning to watch it.

Also, I forget what this anime is called. It's "something" Angel. A little girl with black hair and she becomes part robot because of something that happened to her? Anyway, the guy she likes in the series is almost killed; but they bring him back as a Cyborg; the same that she is. He is trying to get to the world above; which is much better than their own, by traveling along on these tubes that transport garbage back and forth between his world and the other one above. Well, there are these metal rings; saws of sorts, that come quickly down so no one can climb on them and make it up there.

It was sad, because at the end he tries to climb up there and the girl is begging him not to do it. But he is hit and falls to the ground. It was sad, you have to see it because I am certainly not doing justice to it.
