I believe 10 or 15 useres don't mean anything for reader ratings. The only way you'll know you'll like it is if its good.
I played DQ 8 at the Nintendogz convention this past October and it was boring as hell. I'm not doging it either (pun intended) The battle system is the worse turn based I've ever seen in a long time. I liked that kind of system 8 years ago when I was 11 years old. What makes it worse is the camera likes to be dramatic during the fight scene, making alot of the moves look crappy. I mean dramatic effects are cool, but when they're used to show parts of a spell for no more than 2 to 4 seconds at a time it really takes from the combat. The other thing I did not like was the voices. Oh man some of them were horrible. So forced, and so......bleh. But I can't really judge the game. Bad Camera, sub-mediocre battle system, and a slow moving storyline made me not want to buy this game. I honestly think from what I saw I'd of given it a 8.3-8.5. But since I haven't had more than a 30 minute sitdown with the game I wont opt for a review score thats a little more accurate. I've honestly stoped listening to reviewers, since I've seen some biased accusations on some series (I.E Final Fantasy, Dargon Quest, Grand Theft Auto). I seriously recomend comparing reviews from www.ign.com www.1up.com www.gamespot.com and then build your own personal opinion. Watch some gameplay videos as well. With such biased reviewers It would be your best bet at finding out if you'd like the game for yourself and not because people tell you to like it. I'm personally waiting for Tales of Legendia. X3 Linar Motion Battle System for the win!

I thought it was a great game. I rented it, though. Why? I don't have the 50 bones to shell out right now. It's funny. I wanted it just because of the demo for FFXII (which I didn't get at the rental store). So I had DQVIII at my house and I went out to Gamestop. They just so happened to have the FFXII demo on the PS2 when I went out there. I played it for under a minute and I'm sad to say that I was pretty disappointed.
I'm hoping the graphics are just downtuned for the demo and won't look like that when it comes out. I'd be very angry about that. Plus, the battle system (that I messed with) wasn't as cool as I pictured it to be. But as for DQVIII, I loved it. I'd buy it if I had the money.

Final Fantasy 12's graphics are like that because of the implimentation of the free-roam camera. IGN made a note of that when they played it E3 04'. Basically because the camera is free-roam shit can't be as detailed or it'd be too much graphically or some reason related to the backgrounds being made differently for the free roam camera.

In regards to the camera comment yes it does make sense.
When a spell was cast the spell would be over in like 2 seconds. If my character swung a weapon the camera would zip to the enemy you'd see a smack then it would jolt back to a NEW angle on my party all in under 2 to 4 seconds. For some people shit like that is hard on the eyes. Battle effects for the most part were blan and uninspiring. It took away from the battle in my opinion. Basically it went from attack from person, enemy being hit, back to person in new angle so fast it really didn't look nice. As for playing the quest I did the part where the house burns down all the way out of said town and it was boring enough to not merit a rental in my book. Dragon Quest 8 seemed way to old school to not be worth it. I like oldschool, and I do go back to play Old School games. But with so many games for me to look forward to Dragon Quest 8 isn't worth my time. If it was a good 3 to 5 years ago I'd probably pick it up.

Whatever man, I still think you're complaining about something that's completely ridiculous. Now the load times between attacks THERE'S something that's noticable. |

To answer your question, no, it isn't any good.
I played maybe 20 minutes of this game and ****ing hated it. I feel like I was playing a ****ing DBZ game. Every character looked like a DBZ character rip off, and, true to Akira Toriyama's style, every character looked the same. The art style is horrible, the battle system is horrible, and the storyline, from what I know of it, is lame. |

First off, I get really sick and tired of everyone complaining about the Dragon Ball Z artwork. Guess what kids! Chrono Trigger was the same ****ing way. Get over it already, kay? Just because the artist sticks with his style, because it works, does not mean that it is terrible. Okay. You hate DBZ, that's nice. But open your mind just a little bit more.
Now. I bought the game after watching every single video on Gamespot, reading the reviews from a few places, and seeing more than one commercial on television. I admit, I have played very little Dragon Quest/Warrior games. I own the previous one though and enjoyed it, despite the fact that I haven't beat the game. Anyway. You really have to understand that the game was not intended to totally change the face of RPGs as we know it. Hell, Final Fantasy hardly does that anymore. The creators found a system, it worked, and they continued with it. To me, the battle system is excellent. They stuck with something that worked for them, that was well recieved, and that is actually good. I haven't gotten that far, matter of fact, I am still chasing Dhoulmagus around the Checkpoint after giving the Crystal Orb back. But I already love the game. The atmosphere and world are stunningly beautiful. The Final Fantasy XII demo that came with it was somewhat of a disappointment. The quests were way too short. The battle system was neat though, and I liked it tons.
