New Final Fantasy In Development For The Playstation 3

Here is some promising news on what Square Enix has planned for Sony's next-generation console, Playstation 3. We can all expect something extraordinary, but can it possibly be Final Fantasy XIII?

Yoshinori Kitase, producer from Final Fantasy X, hints that it is a Final Fantasy game in the works but won't confirm if it's FFXIII.
During E3 a couple of weeks ago, Square Enix president Youichi Wata showed a short tech. demonstration of how Final Fantasy VII would look if it were remade for the PlayStation 3. He then made it very clear that a new version of the game isn't actually being developed for the console but assured the audience that another Final Fantasy game will be coming to the PlayStation 3.

In a recent featured interview with Final Fantasy X producer Yoshinori Kitase in Dengeki Playstation magazine, who is currently working on the new PS2's Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, one question that was asked was whether the PS3 game will be Final Fantasy XIII. As expected, Kitase declined to give an answer, saying, "I can only officially state that we are making a Final Fantasy for the PS3."

However, he also suggested that he is involved as a core staff in the game’s development, stating, "As a hint, one thing I can say is that the FFVII technical PS3 demo was supervised by me and created by Toriyama and his team staff. I'll leave it to you, but you can imagine that development of the new PS3 Final Fantasy is happening via a similar process." Motomu Toriyama was one of the directors that worked with Kitase on Final Fantasy X, and he was the main director for Final Fantasy X-2.

Kitase also revealed the Final Fantasy VII technical PS3 demo was actually a rush job, created in just a month and a half. "We created it right before E3. I didn't think we could do it at first, but I called Sugimoto (Koji Sugimoto, FFX’s main programmer), and we somehow made it. I believe that if we had more time, we could have made it in a higher quality. In that sense, that demo didn't really take much advantage of the PS3's hardware specs. But still, we were able to make something that looked that good."

When asked if there were any more Final Fantasy VII spin-offs planned in the future, Kitase laughed, commenting, "Well, we'll have to see. There are still characters that might be alive from the original FFVII."

They should consider a remake for FFVIII for the ps3, or even better, Xbox360. Xbox is already far better than it's competitors and the newer generation will probably follow suite.

Remake Old FF = No...especially on another system...(no point in remaking a game on systems with backward compatability and I like FF sticking to PS...FF:CC is different, it was something completely different that didn't involve saving the world in one way or another...)

You ARE aware that the PS3 is 3.5X more powerful then the XBox 360, right?

I'm not up on my console stat's, i'm jsut going by the current models. The xbox beats out the ps2 easily and I assume the next generation to be the same

I think all Final Fantasies should be made for all the platforms.....I hate needing to buy a new platform after every few games that come out.

However...I wouldn't mind a FF7 and 8 re-make for the PS3......thing is I'm stuck with my stupid PS2 for another 3 years till I can afford my own PS3.....I don't go with anything else.

I think FFVII is such a good game that even if they remade it for the PS3 it would be really great and a FF8 remake too would be great

I only say yes to remakes if they add more gameplay, or more dungeons, something that differs from the OG. TDake FF Dawn of souls for example. It was better because they added more weapons, and new dungeons to both FFI and FFII. If you're gonna take the original script, characters, bosses, and sidequests, and just make the graphics a lot better, then I don't see the point. I'd rather just get nostalgic and play the OG FFVIII.

I would defenitly buy a remake for the PS3 Model, as for when I don't know, I like many others can't afford the platforms when they are first reversed, hell I just bought myself a PS2 this past december, so I'm just enjoying the FFX and X-2 now, I won't be in any rush to get PS3 that's for sure lol.

Saw the tech demo it was the coolest. Cloud looked so cool but I would like to know how Tifa looks

I'd buy the remake of FinalFantasy VII when it comes out. But they should remake all the other finalfantasy games for ps3. it would be worth it so I hope they remake it but what about X and X-2 I mean the it great but should they really remake it

It's a little frustrating that Sony keeps pushing back dates for everything. But in the end, its always worth it.

I reckon a remake would kick ass. I totally wouldn't mind as long as its on PS I won't buy an X BOX never. Well unless aquare switch to it in which case i will throw a tantrum and then go ahead and buy one.

I hope they all get remade for Playstation 2 & 3. Even the X-Box. But I kinow the proices will be very expensive

I think they should make all the old FF games from 1-9 but with better graphics damm that would be great but most of the time when people make re-makes of games the charecters look diffrent and the game is shit.Well my oppinion is that MGS1 for the PS1 was better than MGS twin snakes.

New FF with mixed reactions = No, especially with mostly negative reactions
New and critically acclaimed FF = Yes
Remake classic FFs = Yes, especially for a next generation system

It is better to remake a critically acclaimed old Final Fantasy game than to make an original Final Fantasy that will merit many negative reactions.

I think a Final Fantasy VII remake will sell like hotcakes. There is popular demand for a Final Fantasy VII remake. Final Fantasy VII would be remade in full 3D as in Final Fantasy X instead of prerendered backdrops like in the original. Usually in my opinion, the remake, with better graphics and audio quality, is better than the original. Also, the gameplay of the remake is better in my opinion than the gameplay of the original. Dr Unne and I believe in the joy of the enhanced remake idea. Dr Unne has said that the PSOne remake of Final Fantasy I lives up the legacy of the original. It would be excellent to remake Final Fantasy IV in 3D for PS3 and Xbox 360, and it is currently happening with Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS.

I am not hoping for a remake of Final Fantasy X or X-2, but it would be great. If Square Enix were to do so, the remakes would be based on the International versions. The remakes would let the U.S. gamers experience what they were missing from the International versions. The credits would be changed to reflect the remake, and a new orchestral version of To Zanarkand would be played after the orchestral version of Suteki Da Ne.

Final Fantasy XI will be graphically updated for the Xbox 360, and possibly be ported to PS3. The MMORPG will undergo graphical progression for every console generation, meaning that the graphics of the MMORPG will be updated for every console generation. MMORPG remakes are different from offline RPG remakes development-wise. Final Fantasy XI's realtime graphics will one day become as good as the graphics of its FMV. That may happen by the time of the PS6. By the time of the PS6, possibly within 2019 or 2020 or 2021, all Final Fantasies will be in full 3D.

Just to get this out there...Xbox is the worst console that I've ever played. I really hope it goes under soon. I hate me some Xbox and I'm sure the 360 will be just as horrible, only more expensive.

Anyway. I hope that they remake FFVII. It's not my favorite in the series, but getting such a facelift from the PS3 could move it up in the ranks for me. As for a remake of VIII...I hope they do that sometime and make the plot a wee bit more interesting, because I couldn't really stay focused on what was going on. The story line was very watered down to me.

Just my opinion. Give us a FFVII remake!

I go for Sony consoles, and Microsoft is a monopoly. Final Fantasy VII is not my favorite in the series ever (that is Final Fantasy X), but a remake of the game is in popular demand. It is much outdated. It would get a great graphical facelift. Nobuo Uematsu and Shirou Hamaguchi would update the soundtrack, possibly an arranged-soundtrack treatment, consisting of orchestral arrangements (such as for "Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII") and Black Mages style arrangements (such as for "Still More Fighting"). The soundtrack would get a sample rate upgrade. The dialogue would have to be written.
