The Brave or The Chicken

Ok which sword did you choose, and what is your attack power with that weapon?

Odd question I know, and I'm not asking it to brag or anything, I'm simply curious.

I ran 3 times in the Sunken Walz Tower and I ran a few times in X-Death's Castle from a group of A Rages and an Adaman Golem because I was looking for BlackWarlocks to get the Judge-Staff from.

I chose the Brave Blade and my attack power with it is 133.

You may have more, you may have less, maybe you chose the chicken knife and ran alot and beefed up it's power. Post and let us know, I'm curious.

Heh, I still haven't chosen yet. I'm so unsure and horrible at decisions. But just a little information on the weapons.

Chicken Knife:
Has initail attack power of 3, the more you run the higher it becomes to a maximun of 127.(So as long as you don't run anymore you made the right choice) This knife cause you to run away but you can prevent theis by using !Capture or !S-shot, etc.


Brave Blade:
The Brave Blade adds +5 to strength and has an initial attack power of 144 and decreases 20 permenatly each time you run away to a minimum of 23.


Which makes me wonder, are you sure you ran as much as you did? But still that's an impressive Brave Blade, concidering the Ragnarok has an attack power of 137.

Hmmm... well, it's been a long time since I last played FF5 (a few years ago on an SNES rom), but I seem to recall picking the Brave Blade. I rarely ever run away from random battles, so that sword appealed to me more. And looking at the descriptions of the weapons, I guess I made the right choice - the Brave Blade has both a higher maxium strength and a higher minimum strength than the Chicken Knife.

Let me make sure I got you right, if you are equipped with the Chicken Knife it forces your party to run from battles?

Yes I am sure I ran about a total of 5 or 6 times, unless there was a reset somewhere during X-Death's Castle, which could have happened but doubtful. I know I ran the 3 times in the underwater walz tower though, I remember it distinctly.

I think it possibly takes 1 point away for each time you run, because I swore I had a 136 with it when I was first equipped with it. Therefore if I ran the 3 times in the walz tower than I would have a 133, by my calculations.

I am not for sure though, and I'm sure it could take some simple testing, so I may post my results on this to find out for sure.

It doesn't exacly force you to run away its like an ability imbued into the sword. Like say a Blizzard sword will sometimes cast ice when you attack with it, the Chiken Knife will somtimes cause you to flee when you attack with it.

First off, to answer the question: the Chicken Blade. I R Chicken...

...now, seriously...I don't remember how much powerful was my ChickenKnife since I haven't played the game for long, but it must have been powerful, given the times I ran just to get to one area quickly. I think it must have been around the hundreds, given the times I ran. But that gives a great idea: start a game and make everything possible to prevent running away from battle to get the full potential Brave Blade.

Also, notice that this weapon has the same name as one of the weapons of Seiken Densetsu 3? I believe it was the strongest Paladin weapon. Legend of Mana has a similar, tuned down weapon. Yet, none demonstrate the true meaning of bravery than the FF5's version.

Considering the difference between the two, I also went with the Chicken Knife. I'm rather fond of the idea of a weapon getting stronger by chance than one that gets weaker when you absolutely HAVE to run. (You know, before you die or anything.) The Brave Blade may kick a lot of ass, but the more you were in over your head, the weaker it became.

Did I make the right choice? I'm not too sure. The one time I picked the Brave Blade, it was the wrong choice for that particular save file; however, every time I've picked the Chicken Knife, it hasn't disappointed. So... eh, I won't know for sure until I go and pick the Brave Blade again.

I chose the chicken blade......yes the chicken blade, which was actually a dagger. First of all I didn't like daggers in the game, but I was thinking about the stats of both blades. "If I run away enough, it'll evetually get stronger then the Brave blade...." YEAH, sure..... I tried it out and came to the conclusion that I had to run away from AT LEAST 100 battles to get that puppy up to strength. I was considering reseting and getting the Brave Blade, but then I tought......."What am I thinking, I'm not gonna USE either anyway!" So eventualy I couldn't give a rat's *ss....
