You know, writer's block is usually caused by not fleshing out your character/story in your mind(and on paper) before you actually use it..
I would recommend picturing your character in your mind and start thinking like she would. Don't think about the storyline as a whole, just focus on your character. What are her likes and dislikes? What kind of culture did she grow up in? What is her social class? What does she value and what does she believe(religion, etc). What does she want or desire in her life? What does she dream her life will be like? What is she afraid of and what stresses her out?
Some of this you probably already know, but just think over it. If you can
think like your character, the rest just comes naturally. You can picture your character doing things and how she would interact with the world Andromeda created.
Its kindof like your character description, but fleshed out
way more down to the nitty gritty. The more the better. For example, the character I am working on that was only partially introduced in my last post. This isn't
all my info, since I would have no reason for a big post.. hehe:
- Dress: Well she's a small Spirit Dragon, so she doesn't really require clothes. Unlike her sister, she does not transform into other forms. She is quite small compared to other dragons, which is odd. Her scales are pure white, which makes it quite easy for her to switch from a coporeal to non-coporeal state without much notice.
- Attitudes: She is probably one of the nicest individuals anyone has ever met. As far as the Wizardry is concerned, there is no competition when it comes to friendliness and eagerness to help others. She puts others ahead of her own well-being, which is also her weakness.
- Culture: She grew up in a loving family who treated her wonderfully. Being the "baby" of the family, she received much more attention from her parents than her sister Franziska. She wasn't spoiled in the least. Everything she received from her parents she immediately gave to someone else who needed it more. One thing that is apparent is the dialect difference between Franziska and her. Franziska took after her father, who is similar to the German dialect, while she took after her mother, who is more of a Japanese dialect. Just a little twist.
- Social Class: Spirit Dragons of course. Respected by all the other dragon races and feared by the non-draconian races. Of course, her size may be a deterant to the "fear-factor".
- Values and beliefs: She values friendship and respect. She believes that everyone should be given a chance to become a better individual, no matter how evil they are. This is a double-edged sword. Many find her friendliness quite comforting and supportive, while others wish to take advantage of her.
- Needs: In the end, she needs to be loved. She spends so much time helping others and focusing all of her energy on the people around her, she never notices when her own life is left behind. Sure everyone acts like they love her, but they really just want to be around someone who seems happy all the time to boost their own happiness. Unbeknownced to others, it is slowly tearing her up inside.
- Dreams: She dreams of becoming a world-renowned wizard of the Holy Magic so she can help individuals across the planet. She wishes to travel around the globe on missionaries helping everyone she encounters. She hopes to one day find her true love, but she would place the needs of others above her own desires any day.
- Fears: She is afraid of being taken advantage of. While she desires for everyone to get along, she knows that there will always be someone trying to stop her.
- Stressors: On the surface, she doesn't ever appear to be stressed out. She's always happy and never shows a hint of sorrow. What's going on deep in her heart is a mystery that no one, not even her sister, can unravel.
Phew... But anyways, as you can see... it can be helpful. Really, that's just a good base, IMHO. I have written much more than that on my other character. If I ever get stuck on what she would do, I can refer to this and go "duh! she would do ____ in that situation!"
I hope this helps you and Cesar, if only a little. Writer's block can be caused by several things.. such as creating a character that doesn't fit or isn't fleshed out enough... or losing track of the way your character behaves and dead-ending yourself. You write something that causes your character to get into a place that never would have happened and you have no clue how to fix it.
I don't know your character's every detail so I can't tell you exactly what your character would do next, but if you want, I can give you some ideas based on how she has acted so far.. ^_^ Let me know. If there is one certainty here, its that I have an assload of ideas at any given time.
EDIT: Well for the heck of it, here's a couple of things I came up with. Since you were left at the shop and my character just left that you know nothing about, you could try heading out to look for her. You look for a few minutes and instead of finding a small dragon, you have a chance encounter with Magetary Notal's daughter, who Andromeda is supposed to escort. Since you're not a Woman, you have no clue who this girl is and try to make friends. Instead, she throws it back in your face, excerting her "royal" pompous status. So BAM you now realize that
this is the girl that Andromeda is supposed to be escorting tommorrow. Not only that, but she reveals that the only reason Andro is going is because he's a man. If she had it her way, she wouldn't be dragging some "kid" along with her, especially one who allegedly sucks at magic and is a pansy compared to her. Of course, this pisses you off, but you know better than to pick a fight with her. So forth....
I base that on the age difference between Andro and the princess, and the fact that her mom is a bitch. And trust me, daughters become their mothers in reality, so its logical to assume she's got a bitchy/pompus tendancy to some extent. Perhaps not as fleshed out yet, but it would be there. You could choose not to meet her and maybe meet Andro instead and you discuss what is going to happen tommorrow. Andro feels uneasy about the fact that you are coming because of the possibility he could lose his job, but you ensure him that would not happen, that'd you'd talk it over with her and make sure there was no problem. Then if you like my idea of her being a bitch, you try talking it over with her and realize she's a snobby bitch that won't reason with you simply because you're not a Woman and
especially since you are friends with a male.
Or... you could drag DH's character into the mix and confront her. Figure out why this mysterious character is so damn nosey and poke her for answers.
Well, there's a few things.
