OK there is one thing I've noticed in FFX-2 ... they STILL won't call Tidus by his name. Instead they keep with the whole ' him ' . Now in Final Fantasy X I could understand it cause you could change his name then but why the hell won't they say his name in Final Fantasy X-2

I would say to make the game consistent. Would you want them to suddenly give Yuna a name now that she is the main character? Or maybe he never said his name in the first place.

I bet when Squenix made FFX-2 they were like "dammit.. why did we let them change Tidus's name??? This would've been so much easier if we hadn't..." lmfao
In any case, Rikku could've called him Senpai for obvious reasons, which would've made more sense to me. It really didn't bother me. I knew what they were talking about. The only downside to not naming him directly is that people who never played the original will be sitting there going "he WHO??? wtf?!?" ![]() Here's my "for the love of God" statement(*Caution*ending spoiler[kindof]):

It doesn't really matter if they called him by his name or not, you - and the rest of the world - know that he's still the same old person he used to be. You know he's Tidus, so why care if they say his name? I don't see the problem.
Tidus and Shuin look so much more alike than Lenne and Yuna. |

I think it's mildly annoying. But it's really no big deal, they cover for it quite well.
Also. Merlin, I agree with you on that completely! ARRG!!! Did that whole scene in that one place with the thing in X mean nothing! (you know what I mean, ne?) >.O Garg. |

Lol, yeah I know, they found some ways around it. So less creative than others. I found Rikku's what's his name way of refering to Tidus, though I find it strange and bothersome that she would call him that. But I can understand, but how often will you really say the person's name. Not too often. You'll say hi, how are you, but you don't really say Hi Tidus, and Hey Yuna, How are you, Tidus? Is that really you, Tidus, or It all began when saw a sphere of Tidus. Umm not really, sounds strange and out of character. You don't do something just for identification, because it is unnatural. You have to introduce things naturally.

Oooph!! Did you guys have a problem with not hearing things at some points in the game too? Like the part you mentioned or the part in the Farplane glen with the thing and the sleeping and the thing?
...I think it's because it requires Surround sound or something... Because I have both scenes on my computer in Japanese and I can hear everything fine. It's wierd. Hmmn I liked how they had Yuna using the phrase "you" like she was talking to him. |

If you have it in Dobly Digital it sounds fine... at least on my setup. ^_^ That's one of the things that bugged me.. they did the FMVs with Dolby Digital support, yet you can only watch them with that in the Sphere Theatre. That's just stupid. It would've taken two seconds(literally..) to add an option to the settings in the In-Game menu. Poor programming, IMHO. They obviously made them multi-layer movies such as OGM or the like, that way it would have both sound streams at the least cost of space. They could've did seperate files, but that would be stupid as well. In any case, it should've been an option.
Anywho, although IRL you hardly ever use a person's name, I doubt Rikku would forget the name of someone that important and keep refering to him as "whats-his face"... That's as bad as forgetting your mother's name, for crying out loud.

I don't remember Rikku calling him what's-his-face or anything like that... Sounds great though and sort of like the character. ^_^ Then again, couldn't it have just been something tactful like just trying to avoid bringing up painful memories? I know a ton of people over the age of eight that still refer to people with pronouns instead of actually saying a name...
I thought it was pretty clever of them to remember that though, and continue to avoid saying his name even into the sequel though. It also is sometimes a stylistic choice though. Though I didn't really see anything suggesting they were going for this theme, I thought this device was used in like film noir? Referring to something or someone as it or him/her, then there's sort of a mystery... and maybe enough of one for people to pick up the original game if they hadn't already? |

They'd get the whole "wtf are they talking about" feeling out of it...
And no offense, but I doubt they were doing it for stylistic reasons... they aren't that gifted in that dept.. they are more for ripping Star Wars/Trek and The Matrix. |

When do they rip off Star Trek specifically? And I was under the impression that they narrative style they took for FFX and FFX-2 was inspired by recent crime noir-ish type films (I think it was like heavily Tarantino inspired) so it's plausible they lifted that style-ish thing from one of those.

I find it odd that in most Final Fantasy games that Squenix gives characters names but doesn't even use them. Like with Squall and Rinoa. You can only change their names but you can't change Zell or Quistis, etc. That would be funny if someone who hadn't played FFX would be like, "Who the hell is he???"
