INTRO TO THE CLUB
Club Mecha, as the name may imply, is a club dedicated solely to all things mecha. Here you can have discussions about mecha-based media (i.e. anime, video games, movies, etc...). Not limiting it to only mecha talk, mecha-based, you can also participate in RPs & RPBs.

INTRO TO MECHA
"Mecha" is a slang term given to [generally] giant robots. Possibly the most common thing that comes to mind when on the topic of mecha is Gundam.

As I said I would be visiting you shortly after you made the club. I enjoy anime, and mecha is always a fun genre within the anime world. Though I will admit that most of my mecha has been limited to Gundam, but not completely. I have seen MS Gundam, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Gundam Wing, Endless Waltz, 08th MS Team, Gundam Zeta, Evangelion, Rah Xephon, Escaflowne, Eureka Seven, Char's Counterattack, Sakura Wars, Full Metal Panic and Fumoffu, SD Gundam, Gundam SEED, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, and the horrible G-Savior. I think that is all of it. I've been wanting to see Fenrir.

Though as you can see I've been watching a lot of Gundam, since it is the most readily available source of mecha. But I try to spread it out as well. I'm not sure if you wanted to include Escaflowne into, but does have giant robot like machines that someone steps in a pilots. And I guess if you want to go from that it would include Maze as well.

Gundam usually takes the more hard science approach to giant robots, but they still do a fair amount of doing science fantasy, or whatever you want to call it. Though shows like Evangelion really changed up the design for mecha, and Rah Xephon copied that. I sort of call it Evangelion Lite, since its very similiar.

I find that enjoy the Gundam idea more. There are shows like Godannar, Emergence Eve, Samurai 7, Gravion and Jinki Extend that work from that similiar approach. Though they will often look at things at the Power Ranger level as well, combine and giving them strange powers. I've seen a little of most of them. There is also the bothersome character design that makes me distaste them, like Emergence Eve and Godannar. If you seen them, you'll know what I am talking about. But that is just me. I'd imagine guys love it. >.>

I even went so far as to create my own Gundam RP, unique story line unrelated to any of the previous universe and alternate universes that were created. Its become my own mecha anime at this point. Eventually, I'll be doing more with it, but until it is sitting around.

As for Gundam, I am in a toss up if I like Gundam Wing or Gundam Zeta more. Both are great shows, but I've only recently watched Zeta, so it has not had the time to endure like Gundam Wing has. Still it was really great show to watch that really shows how a lot of the standards or things that we see in future shows seem original, but were done by Zeta first. Its a real eye opener for me.

Welcome, Andromeda! I'm gald that you kept your word and stopped by. I do accept your request to join. All we need to do now is work out your ranking. Of course, we could do this via PM if you would like. Right now, I'll add you to the "Private" section.

I'm mostly into the Gundam series myself. The first actual anime I have seen is Gundam Wing. I have also seen 0080, 0083, Endless Waltz, 08th MS Team, Char's Counterattack, Gundam SEED, the first two epidodes of Gundam SEED: STARGAZER, G Gundam, Evangelion, one episode, I think, of Escaflowne, Eureka Seven, and FLCL. I'm sure there's more I have seen but I can't think of them right now.

I haven't seen Zeta at all. I've seen the mecha designs, though. I find interest in the Zeta Gundam. It looks spectacular in MS mode but in flight, mode... ick.

I myself have made a few Gundam RPs on other sites. They were generally short-lived and died painlessly. I have also played a number of mecha games. i.e. Armored Core, E7: Vol. 1, and such.

I guess you can call FLCL mecha, though I didn't really think it as one. I guess that would me another one. Its been a while since I watched Zeta, so the designs are not completely fresh in my mind. But it does certainly look pretty cool in combat mode. I think the flight mode is similar to Epyon, but as I said its been a while, so I can't remember the flight mode too well. But I know that by the end so many of the suits had two transformed states. They would have a flight mode and a combat mode.

In the Gundam universe, having at least one suit with a transformable flight mode is standard now. Though it was pretty much Zeta that invented it for the rest of the Gundams. But it was SEED that invented insanely over powered suits with another power to take over a city alone. Though Wing did a good job as well, with the Twin Buster Rifle. Kira can just target fifty enemies at once and destroy them in berserker.

I forgot about games, though the only mecha games that I played was Gundam: Journey to Jaburo and Federation versus Zion. I did see Zone of Enders, but I didn't play it. There is White Knight Story that is coming out on the PS3 next year with mecha designs, should be very fun to play. There was a few suits in Jaburo that I don't know if they actually exist in the Gundam universe, since I have not been able to find anything on them. There is characters and anime cutscenes with them, so I figure that they must, but they could be some OVA or a manga. It was some blue Gundam that was supposed to imitate newtype abilities, but it goes crazy sometimes and doesn't recognize friend or foe.

And ranking, well I don't know. I guess you can talk to me in PM, since I guess it is up to you decide what you want to make me.

I have seen bits and pieces of two of the Patlabor movies, but my three loves when it comes to mechas are EVA, Gundam Wing and RahXephron. I got into the third via Euphoria. Youtube has it. It is amazing to see. I bid ye welcommen und gut nicht! Hahahahaha! Goes off to plan time crossing fic or RP...

I don't think I've seen any of the Patlabor movies. Wait, wait, wait.... I think I have.... Yes! I did see one of them. I belive it was the one with the new prototype and a computer malfuction causing it to go haywire. I dunno...

I'm liking the new designs for the live-action Evangelion movie. Yes, it is still in production.

The EVAs are getting some changes, though the shape and everything is the same. I thought I read that the color of one was changing, Unit 00 maybe, but Unit 01 is still purple. But they also said that the NERV and Seele symbols were supposed to be on them as well. Though the few images I've seen in Newtype do not make it very easy. But NERV and Seele did get their logo's redesigned. They are still playing with the apple metaphor though.

Oh yeah, there is Appleseed as well, I just bought that recently. They made it out to be an amazing movie but I ended up being less than impressed by it. I don't know, just did not have an impact. None of it seemed revolutionary or whatever. Its was a good movie still, but just seemed flat all around. The designs were interesting though, but fairly typical mech.

I've never seen the Patlabor movies though, I've wanted to. They seemed interesting and I always see them advertised in the Manga previews on their DVDs.

Sakura Wars had an interesting design since they were all stunted mechs that looked really awkward. But they could use spiritual powers and channel them through the machines, so that did help. It was pretty good to watch.

Damn... WETA is still working on that? At least the project isn't dead yet. The one thing I've heard about EVA is about the three anime movies coming out this year and the next in Japan. I want to find more.... ACK.

I keep forgetting about the live action EVA movie, mainly since they've been talking about it forever and doing nothing but pre-production work. I don't think it had left pre-production. But then again, I don't think they found someone to direct it.

I was actually speaking about the anime movies, which are in production and will be coming out eventually. That is something that we can count on. I know the first movie is going to end with the Operation Yoshima. So we will not get to see Asuka until the second movie. But I will be very curious to see what they plan to do.

I don't know if you're into manga, but I've been reading the Evangelion Angelic Days, which is a romantic comedy based off that dream world of Shinji's from the final episode. It pretty fun to read since it expands that what if world into a full series. While it is not canon it is still fun and they still have to fight the angels.

You gotten a chance to see Gundam SEED Destiny? I've heard that it is on Cartoon Network, but I haven't seen it. I figure it probably it is terrible Friday morning 5am slot it had before when it was in the last 15 to 20 episodes. It is the worst place to stick such a great anime. My friend does not really SEED that much, but I think it is because it is so similar to the original Gundam. But that is why I love it so much, its like an update to the classic, but with its own story.

Destiny has a ton of characters and Gundams though, from what I have seen. They even brought back the Zaku design, making it even more apparent that it is a remake of the classic. I don't know if you call Destiny to Gundam's Zeta or something else. The time difference is smaller though.

No, Rommy, Destiny isn't on Cartoon Network. Fridays are all [AS] now. Besides, Destiny is a little explicit for even [AS]. I've seen some screenshots were there is some skin.

That aside, I love the mech designs for it though. The Zaku looks more like the 08th Zaku II version. If it looked like the original Mobile Suit Gundam Zaku... ick.

I think they over-did it on the transformable Mobile Suit area. The only one I REALLY love is the Destroy Gundam. Talking about super weapon.

On the topic of Eva, I haven't really heard much production wise. All I've seen are a few artwork designs by WETA. I've watched some interesting fan-made trailers that feature some pretty funny things. One was a photoshopped Mr. Smith from the Matrix featuring a beard. Interesting enough, the actor did look like he could fit the role as Shinji's father. He even sounded like he could also match his tone and the way he speaks.

Mind if I join too? I don't watch much mecha based anime compared to other forms but I am a follower of such greats as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Escaflowne, Eureka Seven, and Gundam SEED. Mainly due to the lack of availability down here....
