| Final Fantasy I+II The first two titles that started it all have been made and remade for several systems from the NES to the PSP. Talk about any iteration of these two titles here. |

why does FF2 have no lvls?
well i was playing FF2 and i had already knew about there not being the traditional lvl sytem but instead u lvl up each spell and weapon. well i was thinking that this FF was probably the hardest ff cus of the lvl system. and now i am wondering, why did they use that system? i mean yah its fun and i do like the challenge but i would like to know why they didnt use the traditional lvl system. and also if they made FF2 that way why did they decide not to make any other FF games using tht same system?

Well, seeing how it was the second game, you could tell that they probably wanted to experiment. It was put back to the original way because they believed that the original sway was indeed better. They're always trying to find ways to do things differently. If you look at the games that followed, you'll see all of the changes they make.

I was worried about that myself when I first started playing FF2 it was way to hard to beat the first time but the second time I actually beat it and have'nt touched it every since
But yeah they were probarly experimenting on it to see what the public would say. As far as I know everyone seems to enjoy the no lvl rule system because its provides a challenge to see how strong you can get without worrying about lvl and the final boss ( hint: he's very evil yet fun to beat ) But when FFIII came out in Japan( in the 90's mind you) they went back to the orginal lvl system.

Basically your skills levell up like for example the more you use a weapon such as a sword your skill whith that weapon goes up and when you take damage your HP goes up and when you use magic your MP and magic power goes up, but note that some areas go down as you master others
hope that helps ya |

Reminds me of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda --> The Adventure of Link --> A Link to the Past -------------------------------------------------------------------- Traditional ------------> Experimentation -------> Back to Traditional -------------------------------------------------------------------- Final Fantasy ---------> Final Fantasy II --------> Final Fantasy III EDIT: Apparently the post isn't formatting right, so just pretend that they're lined up... In both series, the second installment deviated with a system that ultimately wasn't as well received as its predecessor. Thus, the third installment reverted to the structure of the original game and expanded upon that idea. Last edited by Psy; 06-04-2007 at 04:07 PM. |

I thought it was an effective tool. It showed that there could be almost no limits to how powerful you can be. You know, having 9999 HP and 999 MP before departing for Fynn for the first time, only for game maniacs, though.

I kinda thought it added something to the game, but at the same time you have to worry about leveling up multiple things(and stats) at the same time
Though I liked the remembrance system where you gotta remember key words to proceed. |

I think it was to try to let you chose exactly how your character leveled up.
With the classes in I you sometimes regretted your choices but in II you could tailor your classes to your need at any time. Such as the ice cave bit, you can give all your characters Fire do a few battles get, level up Fire to about lv.3 then breeze through the cave.

I guess this "Traditional" system was only brought into effect in later games. I do not know for sure but they might've fixed it in the psp version. Can anyone confirm?

Nope, it's still in the psp version. And it still sucks. It had good potential, but I think it should have only been used for weapons and maybe spells. Not having regularly rising atributes really isn't enjoyable.

They use that level to annoy me >.< I can't even count how many times I've had to go through battles hoping and hoping that my lowest hp character would get hit. I hate that it's pretty much the only way to get the hp up (and of course, when I'm "leveling", no monsters attack that character..but when I'm against a boss, that's the first one to go)
