metal572 is more corrupt than SOLDIER - (lv -3)
why is tactics not tht popular?

i may be mistaken but it seems to me tht tactics and tactics advanced are not as popular as other ff games. it seems to me they're seconded in the lack of popularity only by ff9. wich makes no sense cus theyre good games. why is this? i understand some people dont like tactics advanced cus it was so diferent from the original but it was still good. if any1 thinks they know or thinks im wrong plz say something.

I can't really say if you're wrong or right. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I personally like FFT. I haven't played the one of the GBA, but FFT on the PS1 was really good. I liked the job system and you had a variety of classes to choose from. The plot of the game was good as well. Its much different then other FF games simply because the battle system is like a chessboard in a way then compared to FFIX's or FFVII's battle system though.

It does seem that Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Advance were not that popular compared to other Final Fantasy games. I really liked Tactics, but I think that maybe Tactics might not have been as popular is because there were very few characters besides the guests. There were mainly generic characters and secret characters. I thought that the only real character that developed was Ramza. Another reason why Tactics might not have been as popular is because the battles got really repetative. It was really annoying when you had the characters exactly how you wanted them and you still had to keep fighting battle after battle. These are about the only downfalls I can think of. I can't really say much about Tactics advance because I haven't beaten it yet. I stopped for a while and then I lost it. Maybe people didn't like the laws. I know that I really didn't like the story for Tactics Advance.

What is in a name? The answer to your question!

People dislike Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advanced due to the opposing battle layouts from the other games, most people can't complete the games as they find them too hard due to the complexities of the chess like movements. Not to mention the annoying laws in TA...

It's different so people dislike it...

The only reason why I've never played Tactics or Tactics Advanced, and probably never will, is because it involves the one thing I've never been good with: strategy. My idea of a tactical advance is to run screaming right into the middle of things and just attack everything to death haha. Oddly, that never seems to work in actual strategy games, so...there you go. If not for that I'd probably have bought it when it was first released.

Because people tend to not like things they aren't good at. Tactics is one of those things. People like me loathe games like FFT, Advance Wars, and Fire Emblem because we get our butts kicked twenty times before we finally win the next plot advancing battle.

That and I like my characters with noses.

Elf has levelled up - (lv 1)
I personally loved the tactics series, but I'm really into strategy games and job classes and whatnot. Tactics can be really slow at times, and many of the battles end up being really long and tedious. Plus, the storyline really falls apart halfway through, not to mention the many typos involved (seriously, did anyone even bother to proofread it?) As for advanced, I kinda liked the added element of different races being allowed different classes, but the law system, while an interesting idea, was a major turnoff.

I LOVE FFT and FFTA!

But as was said before, most people just don't like the "tactics" type battle system these games hold. Not to mention that many people disliked Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX because of the difficulty on it. I remember playing it and getting my arse handed to me in the begining. Although FFTA was pretty easy.

Pyrex is a n00b - (lv 0)
If I had only one video game to play for the rest of my life, it would be FFT, because of all of the things others listed as others most likely not enjoying, all things that make no sense to me, except maybe the tactical part, which would make sense as a reason not to buy it. I like the tactics part, mostly because if you level up enough you can ignore it. I like that there's only one real character to bother with, because then I can write me and my friends in as the other supporting ones. Hurray for me as a ninja! Plus, the graphics are so awesome. Noses smoses. One thing that always bugs me about psx is that a lot of the games have really gross graphics to look at, but with these eight pixel beauties (are they eight?) the jagged, ugly graphics aren't an issue. White mage girls are so cute!

It is because they are tougher to get into. The mainstream Final Fantasies always had the flashiest graphics and young characters. Tactics is about a bunch of grumpy old white men who look like they could be in a SNES game.

Truth be told, if they played through the first couple of missions, they would realize their mistake.

It's because they were never released Down Under and I don't think they were released in Europe as well which is where a big proportion of the FF fanbase is. I have Tactics advance because it had no region restrictions and I liked the Element's it had whilst I heard the original is much better, however I have been pre-occupied with other games to go through it.

Here's my take on it. VII was huge and overshadowed any other FF game for time to come. I figure it was also more mainstream since it had a number. Tactics also had a differant style. You for the most part just fight battles and then train and that's it aside from equiping and such. You do little walking around and don't talk to somene and go to another person who needs an item from so and so to get to the bridge which is blocked off and drrp drrp. yeah you get the idea. The story was also rather dark and was heavier than the other games were at the time. when you have royalty being bumped off and self sacrafice compared to things like...Cait Sith then you can see where the differances are.

I loved the FF: Tactics games, and I feel that it's not as much them being unpopular, it's just they attract another type of gamer. I know a few people that like tactics that don't like the mainstream FFs. And there's also the availability. Both of them have to be imported to a lot more regions than the mainstream titles which seem to be released almost everywhere.

They might be a bit less popular, but I really don't think the FF: Tactics games are unpopular.
